Pierre-Emile Højbjerg wants to part ways with Tottenham amidst interest from Borussia Dortmund.
Højbjerg has a year left on his deal with the North London club but the defensive midfielder has no intentions of continuing at Tottenham.
He has fallen down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou and according to Florian Plettenberg, the Danish international is keen on parting ways with Spurs and there is interest in his services from Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund.
While he has been an integral part of their first team since arriving in the summer of 2020 from Southampton, things took a turn last season. He was involved in 36 league games but he was on the pitch for just over 1,300 minutes. Frustrated by the lack of game time and in search of regular first-team action, Hojbjerg has decided to leave Tottenham.
German giants Dortmund have been linked with the 28-year-old. They are looking to reinforce their squad ahead of next season. They want to add more quality to their midfield and have been working on a potential deal to bring in Pascal Groß to the club. If they fail to strike a deal with Brighton for the 33-year-old, Dortmund could then shift their attention towards Hojbjerg who is one of the several options they have.
The player was asked about the possibility of playing for Dortmund next season during the Euros.
He said: “It’s a great stadium. Now I’ll take a vacation first, then we’ll talk about the rest.”
Meanwhile, Hojbjerg’s compatriot Thomas Delaney who used to play for the German giants has also recommended the move to both parties.
Hojbjerg has a proven track record for both club and country. The defensive midfielder has been a consistent performer over the years and he could easily fit into Dortmund’s style of play. He could be a great option for them if they decide to push for his signature.
