Tottenham are interested in the services of SL Benfica defensive sensation Tomas Araujo.

The North London club’s focus of late has been on signing the best young players. They have added quite a few top talents to their squad since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou and are constantly on the lookout for players who can help them in the long run.

The impressive rise of Tomas Araujo at SL Benfica has resulted in interest from Tottenham and according to a report from CaughtOffside, the North London club are keen on acquiring his services. Spurs have some quality options at the back in Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin. Apart from the three central defenders, Ben Davies is the only other option who can feature in the heart of the defence.

Spurs feature in multiple competitions and they do need more options at the back. Romero has a history of picking up red cards while Van de Ven has had his share of hamstring problems since arriving at the club. As a result, signing a new central defender will surely be at the top of their list and Araujo could be an exceptional signing for the short as well as the long run.

The 22-year-old was promoted to the Benfica first team in the summer of 2022. While it did take time for him to establish himself on the senior side, Araujo has done an impressive job which has put him on the wishlist of multiple top clubs in England. His contract with the Portuguese outfit runs until the summer of 2028 and they will demand €20 million to sanction his departure.

The fee is unlikely to be a problem for Spurs but they will have to compete with arch-rivals Arsenal for his signature. Postecoglou’s team were not the only club that scouted him during the games against Boavista and Gil Vicente as the Gunners also had their representatives in the stands.
