Tottenham set to up the ante in their pursuit of Lecce’s sought-after left-back Patrick Dorgu

Tottenham Hotspur just cannot catch a break from injuries! They have been decimated by defensive injuries in recent weeks with Guglielmo Vicario suffering an ankle fracture against Manchester City in November and centre-back duo Cristian Romero and Micky Van De Ven hobbling off in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea the following month. Ben Davies has also picked up an issue since.

Destiny Udogie is the latest Spurs casualty, with the left-back having sustained a hamstring injury in the 2-2 draw with Wolves on Sunday. As per club insider Paul O Keefe, Udogie could be sidelined for up to six to ten weeks. This leaves a huge hole in the squad at the back, which may derail the club’s transfer plans by keeping hold of out-of-favour left-back Sergio Reguilon amid Brentford interest.

The chiefs at the Hotspur Way have also started scouring the market to replace Udogie in Ange Postecoglou’s squad and it looks like they could up the ante for one of the club’s targets.

According to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are contemplating whether to make a move for Lecce’s highly-rated left-back Patrick Dorgu amid intense competition.

At just 20 years old, Patrick Dorgu has already showcased his talent and potential with Lecce in Serie A. The Dane has been a mainstay in defence, establishing himself as a key player for Marco Giampaolo since he became Lecce’s boss in November. He has started 17 games in Serie A this season, scoring three goals.

Dorgu’s eye-catching displays in Serie A have caught the attention of many clubs across Europe including Tottenham. However, Lecce are in a strong negotiating position as the youngster still has four-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract (Transfermarkt).

The aforementioned report adds Ange Postecoglou has made his thoughts clear over upgrading the squad following discussions with his immediate bosses at the Hotspur Way, but Spurs are wary that signing the Lecce flyer would be difficult in January owing to the player garnering attention from elsewhere. This could result in the North Londoners becoming embroiled in a bidding war for the player.
