One Tottenham star has the opportunity to rub salt in salt in Arsenal’s wounds after Kai Havertz was reportedly ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The German has been an integral part of Arsenal’s attack this term but is expected to be out of action until pre-season after suffering a serious hamstring tear.

It’s also reported Havertz might have to undergo surgery, with Mikel Arteta left scratching around looking for options to help keep Arsenal’s Premier League and Champions League hopes alive.

The Spanish coach’s job could’ve been made a little easier had Arsenal splashed the cash and signed a striker prior to the winter window slamming shut earlier this month.

It wasn’t for a lack of trying, with the Gunners said to have lodged a bid for Aston Villa ace Ollie Watkins in the final week of the window.

It’s also claimed the opportunity to sign Mathys Tel, who eventually penned a move to rivals Tottenham, had presented itself to the north Londoners, with Arsenal choosing not to take the Bayern Munich star on loan for the remainder of the season.

Football.London reported the Arsenal hierarchy had explored the possibility of signing Tel on a short-term deal, but the move was quickly squashed and didn’t reach an advanced stage.

It goes without saying that Arsenal weren’t planning on their starting striker going down with a season-ending injury, but Tel now has the chance to show Arteta and co. what they’re missing out on.

He’s already shown a glimpse of his quality, hooking home an acrobatic strike on his first start for Spurs during Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round defeat away to Aston Villa.

And when you consider Arsenal’s shortcomings in attack this season, even when Havertz was fit and firing, that fox-in-the-box style of player might’ve been just what they needed to help restart their title challenge.

Arsenal find themselves trailing Liverpool in the table, with the back-to-back Premier League runners-up in need of a mini-miracle if they’re to go one step further this year and end a two-decade-long wait for a league championship.

An Arsenal side without Havertz, as well as fellow forwards Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, will re-focus their attention on the Premier League this weekend when they make the trip to strugglers Leicester City.

Kick-off at the King Power Stadium is pencilled in for 12:30pm.
