Tottenham have entered the race for the services of Athletic Club Bilbao attacking sensation Nico Williams.
The 21-year-old Spanish international has made quite a name for himself with his consistent performances for Athletic Club Bilbao this past season. He has had a sensational Euro 2024 so far which has further enhanced his reputation. Multiple top clubs from across Europe are keen on his signature and according to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have also entered the race to sign Nico Williams.
The North London club did well without Harry Kane last season. However, in order to help them take the next step, Ange Postecoglou is keen on reinforcing his attack. He wants a new number nine who can lead the line and is also looking to add more depth to the flanks. Williams’ impressive rise at Athletic Club Bilbao has attracted Spurs’ attention and they have been closely monitoring him ahead of a potential transfer.
While the winger has a release clause worth £49 million in contract, his wage demands are making things difficult for interested clubs. Barcelona have been linked with the Spanish international but financially he is beyond their reach at this stage.
The Premier League seems to be the only viable destination for him. While there is interest from Aston Villa whose manager Unai Emery is a huge admirer of Williams, Spurs are looking to beat the competition for his signature.
The North London club want more firepower up top and the 21-year-old who contributed towards 27 goals (8 goals, 19 assists) last season could be a sensational signing for them. Not only will they get their hands on one of the most exciting young attacking talents in Europe, but his arrival will also allow Postecoglou to start Son Heung-min in a more central role.
