Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin has recently been linked with a move away, with PSG reportedly evaluating a €50 million offer for the Romanian centre-back during the January window.

While the financial windfall is tempting, former Spurs scout Bryan King has cautioned against letting Dragusin leave, especially given Tottenham’s current defensive injuries.

Tottenham have faced a defensive crisis this season, with injuries sidelining first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, as well as reliable backup Ben Davies. These setbacks have thrust Dragusin into a critical role within Ange Postecoglou’s backline.

Although the Romanian’s performances have been inconsistent, his presence has provided much-needed stability in a defence stretched thin.

PSG’s willingness to pay €50 million highlights Dragusin’s potential, with the French giants reportedly seeing him as a long-term solution for their backline.

Tottenham urged against selling Radu Dragusin this window

King, however, believes that the Premier League’s intensity has exposed some of Dragusin’s weaknesses and that Ligue 1 might be a better fit for the young defender.

But despite the allure of a significant profit, King has urged the club against selling the young defender, warning that selling him now could leave Spurs dangerously short on defensive options.

Speaking to Tottenham News, he said:

“Spurs can’t afford to let him [Dragusin] go right now.

“You’ve got your two centre-backs injured, you’ve got an 18-year-old playing at centre-back, and you’ve got Drăgușin, who isn’t good enough. There is still time in the winter window. However, at this moment in time, getting rid of the player you brought in as cover when your two main centre-backs are injured, is bad business.

“I’m shocked that PSG would be willing to pay £42million for him. However, as far as I am concerned it would be easier for him to play in France than in the Premier League.”

Dragusin joined Tottenham in January 2024, turning down Bayern Munich to make a €25 million move from Genoa. The deal made him the most expensive Romanian footballer in history.

Initially, Dragusin struggled to secure regular playing time due to the dominance of Romero and Van de Ven.

However, this season injuries to Tottenham’s defensive mainstays has given the Romanian a chance to prove himself. While his adaptation to the Premier League has been challenging, Dragusin has grown in confidence recently and has provided crucial cover during a difficult period for the club.
