Tottenham Hotspur are dealing with an injury concern surrounding young midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who returned early from international duty with Sweden due to a minor injury, as reported by Football London.
With Spurs set to host West Ham United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following the international break, manager Ange Postecoglou will be keen to have his squad fully fit, especially after their 3-2 defeat to Brighton before the break.
Lucas Bergvall leaves national team camp after injury
Bergvall’s potential absence could be a blow, though the hope is that the injury won’t keep him sidelined for long.
Bergvall was initially called up for Sweden’s recent matches but was ruled out of their game against Estonia after sustaining the injury. The Swedish Football Association confirmed that the 18-year-old has left the national team camp to begin his rehabilitation at Tottenham.
This early return allows the Lilywhites to oversee his recovery, and Spurs fans will be eager to see him back in action soon.
Since joining Spurs on a five-year contract earlier in July for a reported £8.5 million, Bergvall has shown promise in his early outings.
He earned his first competitive start in Tottenham’s 2-1 EFL Cup victory over Coventry City last month. To date, he has made eight appearances across all competitions, with three starts, although he is still waiting to make his Premier League debut.
He also earned praise for his ‘excellent’ performance against Ferencvaros. The game featured several Tottenham youngsters as Ange fielded a youthful side, and Bergvall was among the ones who stood out.
As he continues his recovery, Bergvall will be eager to get back on the pitch and make a strong case for more playing time in Postecoglou’s squad in the weeks ahead.
