Arsenal see £40m bid for Riccardo Calafiori rejected
Arsenal have lodged an opening bid of £40million for Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori.
The Gunners this week have gatecrashed the race for the centre-back and, now Italy are out of Euro 2024, have made their move.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Gunners have sent a "monstrous proposal" for Calafiori but Bologna rejected the bid.
The Serie A side are holding out for more as 40 per cent of the profits from a sale would go to former club Basel.
Chelsea are also in the race and Bologna hope to spark a bidding war to ramp up the price.

Manchester United could sign Matthijs de Ligt for just £30m
Manchester United hope to wrap up the signing of Matthijs de Ligt for around £30-35million, plus add-ons.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal is being worked on this week and personal terms are being discussed and not expected to be a problem.
He wrote: "De Ligt’s agent Rafaela Pimenta is working on this deal, she is negotiating with Manchester United, and I can guarantee that the contract is not going to be a problem. Man United know De Ligt is on a big salary at Bayern, but also that he’s keen on the move and won’t create an issue there, so personal terms are being negotiated and are advancing."
He added: "He needs a new project where he has 100% trust of everyone at the club. Hasan Salihamidzic signed him for Bayern but then things changed and De Ligt was no longer trusted as a key player; so being reunited with Erik ten Hag could be the best solution for him."

West Ham weigh up second bid for Jean-Clair Todibo
West Ham are weighing up a second bid for Jean-Clair Todibo after Nice rejected their opening offer of €30million (£25.4m) for the centre-back.
New Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui is looking to revamp his backline this summer, with at least one and possibly two high-profile additions at centre-back.
Todibo, who was the subject of interest from Tottenham in January, has emerged as a leading target and the club are now weighing up whether to return with an improved offer, having also seen an opening bid for Wolves captain Max Kilman rejected last month.
Todibo, who joined Nice from Barcelona in 2021, has made over 125 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit, who are thought to be willing to sell this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain are yet to decide what to do with Simons this summer amid potential plans to cash in on him.
It is therefore up to PSG to green-light another loan exit or back him with a run in the first team.

Arsenal and Chelsea handed huge Riccardo Calafiori boost
Arsenal and Chelsea have been handed a significant boost for a possible summer pursuit of Riccardo Calafiori.
The Bologna centre-back is attracting plenty of interest across Europe, with the Premier League pair linked with interest along with Serie A giants Juventus.
Calafiori can play at both centre-back and left-back, and both Arsenal and Chelsea are in the market for new defensive reinforcements this summer and the 23-year-old could fit the bill.
It remains to be seen if interest is genuine, but it appears Calafiori is most likely to move abroad rather than stay in Italy.

England squad talking transfers in camp as Anthony Gordon hopes for Liverpool move
An interesting tidbit from the England camp.
According to the Mail’s Sami Mokbel, the summer transfer window and the players’ futures are a keen topic of conversation in Germany.
He said on the Euros Daily podcast: "There's stuff going on, players are openly speaking about where they are going, who is interested, whether they will sign a new contract, whether they won't sign a new contract as their release clause is too high for them.
"It all gets discussed, it's open season for that ... the players are caught up in that drama, they love it and love speaking about it.”
He adds: “[Anthony] Gordon wants to join Liverpool and I don’t think a deal in completely dead ... [but] Newcastle are confident they have recouped enough money to avoid a points deduction.”
