Atletico Madrid to beat Arsenal for Julian Alvarez

Man City striker Julian Alvarez is closing in on a move to Atletico Madrid.

The LaLiga side have a near-agreement with City over the Argentine striker, according to The Athletic, with just a final price and payment structure left to seal.

Personal terms are said to be no problem for Alvarez, who reportedly wants the move.

The deal could help Chelsea’s pursuit of Samu Omorodion, the Atletico striker who the Spaniards have been previously not too keen to sell.

Tottenham want Dominic Solanke and Pedro Neto

Tottenham are growing in confidence a deal with Bournemouth for Dominic Solanke can be struck.

The striker has emerged as Spurs’ desired target this summer, and according to reports are hopeful of agreeing a fee of around £55million for the player.

Solanke has a £65million release clause, which Spurs and a select number of clubs can trigger, but the north Londoners will try to sign the player for less.

Spurs will then reportedly move for Pedro Neto for a similar fee.

Arsenal move for Mikel Merino takes new twist

Arsenal target Mikel Merino has returned to pre-season training with Real Sociedad, writes Simon Collings.

The midfielder had been on an extended break after helping Spain win Euro 2024 this summer.

Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay had last week expressed doubts about whether Merino would join up for pre-season training, given Arsenal’s interest in him.

“I don’t know, we are aware that Merino has offers, and we know them,” Aperribay was quoted as saying by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

“The conversation with him and those around him has been very sincere and I hope his decision is to stay, he already knows that we want him to stay. He has had a renewal offer for some time. And if not, we will try to negotiate the best way out for Real Sociedad.”

Real Sociedad have their final pre-season friendly this week, when they take on Union Berlin on Friday, and it remains to be seen whether Merino takes part.

Dani Olmo pushing for Barcelona transfer

It’s a key week in the future of Dani Olmo.

The Spanish winger is said by Mundo Deportivo to be heading back to Leipzig today ahead of his pre-season beginning on Thursday, with agent Andy Bara in tow.

Barcelona have offered £43m up front with £2.5m in add-ons based on appearances and a further £8.5m if they win LaLiga or the Champions League in the next six years.

RB Leipzig are yet to give a definitive verdict on the bid, with talks also focused on the payment structure as only £21.5m would arrive this summer.

Olmo is reportedly keen to leave for the Spanish giants, amid rival interest from Man City, and wants a speedy resolution.
