It was a good weekend for Tottenham Hotspur, as the Lilywhites triumphed over the Toffees in their first home game of the season. The performance was so good, in fact, that two of the Spurs players made it into WhoScored’s team of the week.

Clinical Spurs destroy Everton

Spurs registered their first win of the season with a 4-0 victory over struggling Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou’s side put in a dominant display, but while they rued missed chances against Leicester City, Tottenham were clinical in putting Everton to the sword and bagging all three points.

Yves Bissouma opened the scoring with a wonderful long-range effort, before Heung-min Son doubled the lead with a cheeky finish after stealing the ball off Jordan Pickford.

In the second half, a Cristian Romero header killed the game and capped his 100th appearance for Spurs in style. Then, Son added his second and Tottenham’s fourth to complete the rout after some fine work by Micky van de Ven.

Romero and Sonny shine

Pretty much every Spurs player put in a great performance on Saturday, but two have been picked out by WhoScored in their Team of the Week across Europe’s top five leagues (England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany).

Romero was selected as part of a back three, with a huge rating of 9.04, thanks to a goal and a clean sheet, and a general solid display.

Meanwhile, Son was put up front with Erling Haaland, with a rating of 9.05, largely thanks to his brace.

Spurs Web Opinion

I thought these two were quality on Saturday, and took their goals really well.

I’m quite surprised Micky van de Ven isn’t in there, too, though, as he was my man of the match against Everton, to be honest. Yves Bissouma was great, too, but I appreciate the midfield there is pretty stacked.
