Inter Milan’s Yann Bisseck has been watched by Tottenham scouts this season

Tottenham Hotspur have had an up-and-down season in the Premier League and rightly find themselves 10th in the table.

Ange Postecoglou did enjoy a productive summer transfer window that saw the club bring in players such as Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert while re-signing Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig. However, with the Spurs boss struggling to get consistent results, thanks majorly to several injury problems, the club are planning to invest in the January transfer window.

Injuries to Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies have left Ange Postecoglou with just one fit central defender in Radu Dragusin. The Australian tactician has been forced to deploy Archie Gray—a midfielder by trade—in central defence alongside Dragusin for the last few games. Due to their defensive options being stretched to thin, Tottenham want to sign a central defender next month.

Postecoglou knows he can’t go through another window without strengthening his backline, and Spurs have been linked with a move for Inter Milan defender Yann Bisseck. However, they aren’t the only club interested in his services.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham and West Ham United had their scouts present to watch Yann Bisseck in action during Inter Milan’s recent game against Parma. He assisted Marcus Thuram’s goal as Inter beat Parma 3-1 at home. The scouts apparently received glowing reports on the defender’s performance.

Having arrived at Inter Milan from German side Aarhus in July 2023, Yann Bisseck took time to adjust to the pace and tactical demands of Serie A football. Slowly he grew into an important squad player for the Nerazzurri last season and ended up making 21 appearances across all competitions.

This season, though, he has featured more prominently for Simone Inzaghi’s side, starting seven league games of 15. The Cologne-born talent has delivered some strong performances in the Champions League as well, most notably the 1-0 win over Arsenal at the start of November. A week later after the Arsenal game, Bisseck extended his contract at the San Siro until the summer of 2029 (Transfermarkt) but that hasn’t stopped the likes of Spurs and West Ham from vying for his signature in January.

The aforementioned report adds both the London clubs are ready to test Inter’s resolve in the winter transfer window, but West Ham are likely to have a slight edge in any negotiations because of the German connection thanks to their technical director, Tim Steidten.

Although a final decision is yet to be made on the 24-year-old’s future, Inter will find it difficult to resist offers in the region of £35m, which interestingly both Spurs and West Ham are expected to offer. Given Bisseck’s versatility, potential and mix of technical skills and physicality, Tottenham must do everything within their powers to beat their London counterparts for his signature next month.
