Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones 'not flying to London to buy club'

However, according to Football London, rumours that Jones is flying to London to strike a deal to buy or invest in Tottenham this week are wide of the mark.

Tottenham are on the lookout for fresh investment though. Earlier this year, chairman Daniel Levy said in the financial results for the year ending 30 June 2023 that new funds were needed to unlock the club "long-term potential".

He said: "To capitalise on our long-term potential, to continue to invest in the teams and undertake future capital projects, the Club requires a significant increase in its equity base. The Board and its advisors, [investment bank] Rothschild and Co, are in discussions with prospective investors. Any recommended investment proposal would require the support of the Club's shareholders."

In September, speaking to Bloomberg, Levy said he felt obligated to "consider anything anyone may want to propose". It was suggested that the discussions centred around selling a minority stake rather than a complete takeover and had Levy had no intention of leaving the club.

Spurs are owned by investment company ENIC, who have long been accused by fans of lacking ambition. Off the pitch, Spurs have been a great success since moving to their current stadium in 2019.

Matchday revenue has trebled while sponsorship, merchandise sales and events brought in £228million in the last financial year. As a result, Spurs’ financial worth has rocketed, with Levy valuing the club at approaching £4bn.

Ange Postecoglou drops injury update on four players as Tottenham prepare for Bournemouth

Postecoglou said of England international Solanke: "I hope so. He trained (Saturday) but he came in and didn't look well at all so we sent him home.

"It's obviously an illness not an injury so we need to see how it settles down in the next couple of days but hopefully it's nothing too significant."

Archie Gray had to be substituted after being sent on against Fulham, but Postecoglou revealed it was only a "dead leg" for the versatile midfielder.

Cristian Romero has not played for Tottenham since before the international break due to a toe issue.

Postecoglou was cautious over whether the Argentina defender would return for the midweek clash. "Potentially," he admitted. "He still hasn't trained with the team, so he's getting closer but he still hasn't trained with the team.

"So, him and Micky (van de Ven) are still working with sport science staff. So, hopefully, not too far away."

In the absence of Romero and Van de Ven, Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin have deputised in defence to good effect over the past week with Spurs' attack wasteful against Roma and not creative enough versus Fulham.

Postecoglou added: "Benny and Radu have been outstanding throughout this spell. There aren't too many teams in the league who have both their centre-backs out. I mean, I've seen so much violin playing over one centre-back out, but we're just supposed to get on with it.

"And the beauty of it is these boys are and I love that, I love the character they're showing.

"I love the fact that they're not seeking excuses or wanting me to make sort of allowances for it, but at some point, I need to also acknowledge the massive effort that all these guys are putting in."

Fulham's impressive point was earned by Tom Cairney's second-half strike, but he will now miss three matches following his 83rd-minute sending-off for a late tackle on Dejan Kulusevski.

Cottagers boss Marco Silva said: "Yes, really tough for us not to have a player like him. I know he is not always a starting player but Tom is the type of player if he plays 10 minutes, he is going to have an impact.

"He is going to be a big absence for us. Let's hope we can have Andreas (Pereira) ready to go in the way I know he can play because we need everybody at this moment."

Fulham boss Marco Silva calls on ex-Arsenal stars to upset Tottenham

Marco Silva has rallied his former Arsenal aces to spearhead Fulham’s charge against Tottenham. A win would catapult the Cottagers above their city rivals in the standings, as they seek redemption from their upset at Wolves' hands last weekend.

Silva is banking on Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Alex Iwobi, all Arsenal youth products, to become match-winning heroes. He admits: "I haven't spoken with Emile, Reiss or with Alex about this situation. However, probably their feeling is going to be different about the game.

The Fulham boss anticipates that Spurs fans might give them a frosty reception, adding: "The reaction towards them from the Tottenham fans is also probably going to be different than with me or Kenny Tete or Issa Diop.

"If it can give them a different level of motivation, then it would be good for us."

"They are in Fulham now and they fight really hard for us.

"I know they are proud to be part of the club in this part of their careers."

On the other side, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou maintains an adventurous stance, expressing disinterest in defensive gameplay despite a recent Europa League slip-up versus Roma. While Silva acknowledges great respect for Postecoglou, he emphasizes his own tactical adaptability as vital for Fulham's competitive edge in the top flight, concluding: "You adjust things, you are always trying to add things and in life, you can never stand still.

"Yes, in some moments I know I like to play football and be on the front foot but sometimes it does depend on the opponent and whether the other team allows you to do it.

"What I see from Ange is that you can always talk about the identity of the team.

"You can choose an idea but you have to convince the players.

"I really respect him, I have my idea and identity and what I see from Tottenham is one clear idea from a very good manager and he goes with it until the end."

Fulham will be missing influential centre-back Joachim Andersen for the match, as the Dane has sustained a calf injury in the match against Wolves, while Harrison Reed, Jorge Cuenca, and Ryan Sessegnon will also be out of action.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy could reportedly attempt to bring in either Burnley star James Trafford or Sunderland ace Anthony Patterson in January as the north London giants seek a replacement for Guglielmo Vicario. The Spurs goalkeeper is facing months on the sidelines after suffering a broken ankle during his side’s 4-0 thrashing of Manchester City on Saturday.

Vicario was given treatment half an hour into the clash at the Etihad Stadium but went on to play the entirety of the match.

He subsequently had surgery on his ankle and will be forced to undergo a period of rehabilitation until he is fit enough to return to the side, with Fraser Forster in line to take his place.

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham are considering delving into the transfer market to sign a new shot-stopper in January. The outlet have reported that Trafford is keen to return to the Premier League after being relegated with Burnley last season, while Patterson is on the radar of a number of top-flight clubs.

Vicario, 28, took to Instagram after his operation on Monday to update fans on his well-being as he wrote: “I played 60 minutes at the Etihad with a broken bone in my ankle, giving absolutely everything I had for the team.

“Unfortunately there was no way around this one. I needed surgery. I’m disappointed I won’t be able to help the team for a while.

“A massive thank you to the doctors and the staff. The operation went well, and from tomorrow I’ll be working hard to come back stronger, fitter, and ready to give my all for you again. Thank you to the Spurs fans for all the love. See you soon on the pitch.”

And Tottenham said in a statement: “We can confirm that Guglielmo Vicario has today undergone surgery for a fracture of his right ankle.

“He will be assessed by our medical staff to determine when he can return to training.”

Trafford became Burnley’s first-choice keeper under Vincent Kompany last season after helping England Under-21s win the European Championship in 2023, but lost his place to Arijanet Muric towards the end of the campaign.

The 22-year-old has regained the starting jersey this season and has kept nine clean sheets in 15 Championship appearances.

Patterson, meanwhile, has been Sunderland’s first-choice keeper for the last two-and-a-half seasons after usurping Ron-Thorben Hoffmann during his side’s final campaign in League One.

The 24-year-old has made 135 appearances for the north east giants and was linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool in the spring thanks to his inspired performances in the Championship.

Hugo Lloris gives verdict on Postecoglou's Tottenham and clears up Levy stance

Former Tottenham stalwart Hugo Lloris has thrown his weight behind current Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, insisting that the trophy drought could be ended under his leadership, but has highlighted the need for patience.

Despite a rollercoaster of performances this season, culminating in a sensational 4-0 triumph away at Manchester City's Etihad fortress, the former captain remains optimistic about the club's fortunes.

Following 12 seasons with Spurs which saw him lead the team in a trio of fruitless finals, Lloris conveyed to PA news agency his belief in the vision and process laid out by Postecoglou: "I spent six months in the changing room, I was not even involved but I could enjoy the football vision of Ange.

"I still believe and I am still convinced you have to stick with this way and trust the process. The team and club is in a good position, they have talented players, different ages, different experiences but I still believe they can achieve something and win something.

"Part of the football world today, you have to deal with this expectation and I just hope and you don’t want to see the team affected by these things or the club affected.

"They have to be strong and stay together and make (as) one in the club. And also I would say the fans need to trust the process because what we see, we enjoy.

"That is the football we want to see them playing and it’s not because of one bad result or two bad results that we need to question everything. You have to look about medium to long-term because I believe they can do it."

Throughout his 447 appearances for Tottenham, Lloris has always been forward-thinking. However, the World Cup champion has spent much of the past year reflecting on his career for his new autobiography, 'Earning My Spurs', which was released on November 7.

The book, which Lloris didn't initially plan to write, came about after journalist Vincent Duluc persuaded him in 2023. After 10 sessions, the result is a comprehensive account of his life, from his early years at Nice and Lyon to his record-breaking stint with France.

The Quercus-published 'Earning My Spurs' covers a wide range of topics and has recently made headlines in England. In his memoir, Lloris reveals how he was taken aback when Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy gifted the entire squad luxury watches engraved with 'finalist' before the Champions League final.

Despite the candid nature of his book, the 37-year-old says he hasn't received any backlash. "No, but there was a lot of noise about the Champions League episode," Lloris admitted.

Lloris has opened up about his departure from the club with touching honesty, expressing immense respect for Spurs and Daniel Levy. "To be honest, there is nothing bad about that, especially because I have so much respect for the club and also for Daniel Levy but at that time it was a bit weird," Lloris said of the backlash about a story he retold.

"The only thing I meant is the club never used to be in that position and probably we didn’t do things in the right way. It’s as simple as that."

His affection for Tottenham is evident in a new book where he not only commends his successor Guglielmo Vicario, but confers heartfelt thanks to Levy for "the sort of goodbye I’d dreamed of", referring to his poignant farewell he got on December 31 against Bournemouth.

Reflecting on his tenure at the club which predated the current 62,850-seater stadium and witnessed a sparse history in Europe's top competition, Lloris shared: "I gave 12 years of my career to the club and I am proud of it, you know?

"And today I just support the club, I love the club and I just want to wish them and see them succeeding. I hope it will come but I am also proud because I was part of the group of players that make the club evolution. When I signed for the club and when I left, it’s a totally different club.

"Step by step we become even more competitive and put the club in a better position. I think today the club has everything and is strong enough to succeed."

Dejan Kulusevski rubs salt in Man City wounds with cheeky Tottenham comment

Dejan Kulusevski is buzzing with anticipation for another clash against Manchester City after Tottenham's stunning victory at the Etihad Stadium.

The Swedish midfielder celebrated what he described as the pinnacle of his career following Spurs' emphatic 4-0 win over the reigning champions.

Kulusevski played a pivotal role in dismantling City's formidable 52-match unbeaten home streak, setting up James Maddison's opener with a sublime assist and producing a man of the match performance.

Kulusevski remarked: "I believed (we would win) this because in the past years, we’ve come here and played really well. So this is the game I look forward to most in the year and, once again, it happened – glory to God.

"I’d say it’s the best result ever in my career. It’s a big night for the whole club, for the coach, for the players.

"Because City have a lot of the ball sometimes, we can rest when we defend. There’s also so much space up there, we play one against one and then it’s always dangerous because we have a lot of quality."

Kulusevski expressed his preference for playing against top teams like City, explaining: "It’s always great to play great teams because they always want to play football.

"When you play lower teams, sometimes it’s not. There’s not much football played because they are a lot of fouls, a lot of injuries and it’s slow going."

While Maddison shone brightly with two rapid goals and Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson also scored, Kulusevski's own dazzling display did not go unnoticed, and he is confident that he has more to offer.

Kulusevski said: "I feel like that. I feel very good and I’m trying to keep this way. I’m very happy, I’m trying to improve.

"I started the season good but there is over half of the season left and I hope I can do much better.

"I think I have something that no other player has. With my engine, with my heart – I don’t get tired – I feel like I can do a lot still in my career."

Despite Tottenham's dazzling win, they suffered a shock defeat to Ipswich before the international break and Kulusevski has plead forconsistency: "We have to be much more consistent. It’s not a turning point. We just have to be better in other games.

"This game suited us perfectly but we have a lot of improvement to make in the other games."

Pep Guardiola puts Man City struggles down to four players as he reacts to Spurs rout

Pep Guardiola blamed Manchester City's problems on the fitness issues of four of his key players after seeing his side hammered by Tottenham at the Etihad. Just two days after confirming he had agreed to extend his contract with the club through until 2027, the Spaniard saw his side beaten 4-0 which was a fifth successive defeat.

It means that if Liverpool beat Southampton tomorrow, City will be eight points off the top of the Premier League ahead of a trip to Anfield next week.

And afterwards, he cited the long-term absence of Rodri, as well as the recent injuries to John Stones, Jack Grealish, and Kevin de Bruyne, as a primary reason for their poor form.

He told Sky Sports: "Of course Rodri is important but we knew that for many months. But Stones can only play 45 minutes. Jack has been injured many times. Kevin, two months and five months."

England defender Stones did return to the starting XI against Spurs but after the home defence were pulled apart in the first 45 minutes, was replaced at the break by Nathan Ake. De Bruyne and Grealish, meanwhile, both featured as late substitutes.

Guardiola has been vocal about the issue of players being called up for international duty and picking up injuries while representing their countries. And he also implied that the most recent break had denied his squad the chance to regroup.

"The players came back late from internationals," he added. "There were a few reasons we're not able to be consistent. Now the balance is not in the right moment. We have to do it, talk, and on Tuesday against Feyenoord have the chance to try."

He also insisted his squad can turn around their form and vowed to confront City's current problems head-on. "Run away?" he said. "Absolutely not, we have to stand up more than ever. What will define us is when we fail, we stand up and face it.

"I don’t know what will happen this season, but not for one second will I not believe in these players. There is no team in the world that can sustain success for eight, nine, ten years in a row.

"Of course everything is not fine, but what we try to do is analyse it, let’s go to next game and see what happens."

However, he also sounded a warning to his stars ahead of their game at Liverpool. By the final whistle next Sunday, City could be as far as 11 points off the top, and their manager fears they could face another humiliating afternoon if they don't improve on today's showing.

"It's a great game to turn it around and take three points from the team who sit above you," he added. "But we can't put in a performance like that or we'll get walked over."

Description

Tottenham romped to a stunning 4-0 victory at Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday evening, bouncing back from their shock home defeat to Ipswich Town last time out. Ange Postecoglou's side condemned City to a fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions to emphatically get back on track.

James Maddison scored a first-half brace as part of a sensational performance before Pedro Porro added a third on the other side of the break. Brennan Johnson made it four in stoppage time.

Express Sport runs through the Tottenham player ratings on a memorable night in Manchester.

Tottenham player ratings vs Man City

Guglielmo Vicario: 9

One of the most deserved clean sheets you'll see all season. Looked like a man on a mission to deny Erling Haaland, and he did.

Pedro Porro: 8

It felt like his third goal put the game out of sight, but he also heavily contributed to an inspired defensive performance by Spurs.

Radu Dragusin: 7

Rock solid throughout the match and produced a crucial block in stoppage time to frustrate Haaland further.

Ben Davies: 7

Will deservedly receive plenty of respect for filling in at centre-back in Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven's absence. Impressive showing.

Destiny Udogie: 8

So tenacious in the tackle, making more than any other player on the pitch. Also won five ground duels.

Pape Sarr: 7

Came out on top in seven duels to go with three tackles in an energetic midfield performance.

Yves Bissouma: 5

A rare underperformer for Spurs. Felt like it was going to be a long night for him and Spurs after he was booked in the 17th second. It wasn't.

James Maddison: 10

Are you watching, Thomas Tuchel? A near-perfect showing from Maddison, scoring twice to send Spurs on their way to a momentous victory. Nine duels won, five fouls drawn, 100 per cent take-on and tackle success rate. Tonight is his night. Superb.

Dejan Kulusevski: 9

He could easily be Spurs' second 10/10 performer. Ran City's left side ragged, winning all five of his ground duels, completing four take-ons, creating three chances and adding an assist. Sweden are in the money with their attack.

Heung-min Son: 6

Created two chances before withdrawing after the hour mark.

Dominic Solanke: 6

Only took 25 touches across the 90 minutes. Didn't need to contribute to the goalscoring but provided the assist for Porro's strike.

Substitutes

Brennan Johnson: 8

Huge impact off the bench. Hit the woodwork before adding a fourth by pouncing onto Timo Werner's cross at the back post. Five Premier League goals this season.

Timo Werner: 7

Wasn't on the pitch long but added an assist to his tally.

Djed Spence: N/A

Stoppage-time introduction as Spurs played down the clock.

Lucas Bergvall: N/A

The same applies.

Spurs to get second transfer chance with 'unhappy' Real Madrid star

Tottenham Hotspur could reignite their interest in Real Madrid's young sensation Arda Guler after the player's challenging start to the season. The 19-year-old Turkish talent, who made a move from Fenerbahce to Madrid last year, has been struggling for game time at the Spanish club.

Despite a delayed debut due to injuries, Guler finished his first season impressively, netting six goals in just 10 league appearances and clocking up 373 minutes on the pitch. His prowess was on display at Euro 2024, where he scored a remarkable goal against Georgia, helping Turkey reach the quarter-finals.

Spurs had shown an interest in the midfielder earlier this year, but talks of a transfer quickly dissipated. Now, following comments from one Turkish pundit, it appears that Guler is discontent with his situation at Madrid, particularly after a lacklustre international break.

"Arda has shown rustiness in his performance. That's natural," Mustafa Denzil told HT Spor after Turkey's draw with Wales.

"Arda no longer comes back from Real Madrid with high morale as he used to. He is not experiencing psychological happiness there. We know that he has had few minutes and few opportunities, but his rivals in the dressing room have increased their performances."

This development could potentially open the door for Tottenham to make a move for the promising youngster, reports Football London. Guler has found himself starting only three times in 12 appearances this season for Madrid, who trail behind Barcelona by six points in the league standings.

Denzil commented on the situation, noting that manager Carlo Ancelotti seemed more inclined to give Guler game time last season when Madrid were on track for a La Liga and Champions League double.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you've consented to and to improve our understanding of you. This may include adverts from us and 3rd parties based on our understanding. You can unsubscribe at any time. Read our Privacy Policy

"It doesn't matter. In terms of score and results, it's worse. The team's performance has dropped," Denzil said. "When the team's performance was higher, he played more; when the team is doing worse, he gets less playing time, and that has a significant negative impact."

Even in Turkey's Nations League campaign, Guler has been substituted in four out of five matches, including in the dying moments against Wales. With Turkey aiming to top their group with a win over Montenegro on Tuesday, manager Vincenzo Montella faced questions about his decision to substitute the Real Madrid prodigy.

"Getting Arda Güler off the pitch is a really difficult task because you would never want to take him off," Montella said. "He is a talented player and a fast player, but he has not played continuously for a long time. I was convinced that he would not be able to continue due to physical problems."

Meanwhile, Ancelotti seems uninterested in any offers for Guler, firmly stating in April: "Arda is going to be a very important player for us in the future, and there is no doubt that he will stay here next year."
