Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on AS Monaco defender Vanderson in their search for a right-back, Foot Mercato has reported.

The North London outfit remain keen on addressing the right side of their defence following Emerson Royal’s departure to AC Milan earlier this month and have been linked with several names throughout the window.

Spurs’ academy graduate Kyle Walker-Peters has also been touted for a return. The 27-year-old is out of contract at the end of the 2024/25 season and could be available for a cut-price deal.

Saints boss Russell Martin revealed the club are ‘in discussions’ over Walker-Peters’ future – he could still be on the move before the transfer window closes on 30th August.

Eager to bring in a competitor for Pedro Porro, Tottenham are also reportedly considering giving another opportunity to Djed Spence, after the 24-year-old impressed Postecoglou following his return from loan.

Spurs’ summer business has picked up pace in recent weeks – the Premier League giants have broken their transfer record with the signing of Dominic Solanke and are expected to be busy throughout the remainder of the window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Vanderson Considered by Spurs

To replace Emerson Royal

According to Foot Mercato, Monaco are anticipating Vanderson’s departure this summer and have already lined up a replacement for the Brazilian in PSV’s Jordan Teze.

Spurs have been tracking Vanderson for a while. Back in June, Fabrizio Romano reported that the 23-year-old was considered a replacement for Emerson Royal, months before his departure to AC Milan.

The Ligue 1 side are reportedly demanding around £34m for the Brazilian, who made 20 league appearances last season, scoring three goals and providing an assist.

The 23-year-old’s season was hampered by injuries as he was out for almost two months. Since February, Vanderson, who was praised as ‘exceptional’, has made just seven league starts for Monaco, including his first in the 2024/25 campaign, in a 1-0 victory against Saint-Etienne last weekend, where he provided the game-winning assist.

According to journalist Bruno Andrade, Spurs are believed to be preparing an offer worth around £27m for Vanderson, who still has four years left on his current deal, expiring in June 2028.

Spurs to Allow Four Departures

Ahead of the transfer deadline

Tottenham are now expected to shift their focus to outgoings, with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon, Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips allowed to leave the club before the transfer window closes on 30th August, according to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge.

While Spurs aim to offload Lo Celso and Reguilon on permanent deals, youngsters Devine and Phillips are likely to leave on season-long loans.

Tottenham have already bid farewell to as many as seven players this summer, including Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon, Tanguy Ndombele, Ivan Perisic and Joe Rodon, while the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Bryan Gil have left on loan.

Tottenham Midfielder Oliver Skipp Completes Leicester Medical

Oliver Skipp finally looks set to depart Tottenham Hotspur after making over 100 first-team appearances for the north London club - with the midfielder reportedly completing a medical at Leicester City in a huge move for the Foxes.

Skipp, 23, has been on the peripherals of the Tottenham side for the past three seasons, making 62 Premier League appearances in that time. But with just five starts to his name last season, the midfielder is desperate for game time elsewhere - and that will come at the King Power Stadium, with Leicester agreeing a fee for his services and the midfielder has now passed a medical.

Oliver Skipp Passes Leicester Medical

The Tottenham midfielder looks set to move on permanently

The report from Sky Sports states that Skipp has completed his Leicester medical - with a deal totalling £25million edging ever closer to completion.

Reports on Sunday stated that the two clubs had agreed a fee for his services, with the fringe star set to move on from Tottenham after a 16-year alliance in their youth and first-team ranks, as game time became limited at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It's a huge outlay for Leicester on their return to the top-flight, though the Foxes have not spent much in the current window in comparison with other promoted clubs Ipswich Town and Southampton and as a result, recruits have been needed - with Skipp's arrival seemingly paramount to Steve Cooper's chances of survival. Skipp could be unveiled in his first game as Leicester boss on Monday evening - incidentally, against Tottenham. Reporters on Sky Sports said:

"Some breaking news, and that is that Oliver Skipp is set to join Leicester. Of course, his team Spurs play Leicester tonight in the Monday Night Football. He completed a medical yesterday, it's a £25million deal and that has been finalised between Tottenham and Leicester. Oliver Skipp is set to sign for Steve Cooper's side."

Skipp will join up with the Foxes this week once the move goes through, before settling into their squad ahead of the away trip to Fulham next weekend as Cooper's side aim to avoid a relegation battle in the top-flight.

Tottenham Could Need Another Midfielder

Ange Postecoglou has lost a solid squad option in the young star

Tottenham have plenty of options in their midfield but with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg joining Marseille on a loan-to-buy deal earlier in the summer and with Skipp all but set to depart the club, they could feel the need to bring in a new man in the centre of the park.

Manuel Locatelli has been linked with a move from Juventus, and to the tune of £20million, the Italian could be a solid addition to their ranks for a cheap price with years of Serie A, Champions League and international experience.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Skipp has made 106 appearances for Tottenham, scoring just one goal.

Ange Postecoglou could also rely on youngsters Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall to perform in the centre of the park, but the duo are both in their teens and any reliance on their talents could come at a cost so early in their careers. Whether that means that a new star will be brought in to counteract Skipp's departure remains to be seen, but there is now a decent amount of money to spend in north London should his impending move go through in the coming days.

Leicester 'Reach Agreement' With Tottenham for Oliver Skipp

Tottenham Hotspur look set to move on homegrown star Oliver Skipp in the coming days, ending a 16-year affiliation with the club as a result - with the midfielder set to make a move to Premier League outfit Leicester City after the two clubs agreed a fee for his services, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

Skipp came through Tottenham's academy and made his debut for the club in October 2018, just weeks after his 18th birthday - but despite a fleeting number of appearances here and there for the club, his 106 outings in all competitions has seen him on the peripherals of the squad. And Leicester have swooped to offer him first-team football in their bid to boost their ranks, according to Ornstein.

Oliver Skipp Set to Join Leicester City

The midfielder hasn't had a great deal of opportunities

The report from Ornstein states that Leicester have reached an agreement with Tottenham over the signing of academy graduate Skipp as they aim to bolster their ranks ahead of the Premier League season.

The 23-year-old has found first-team minutes hard to come by in recent years, making just five Premier League starts last time out in Ange Postecoglou's first campaign in the top-flight of English football and as a result, with Leicester set to embark on a new campaign with the visit of Tottenham to the King Power Stadium on Monday evening, a deal has been struck between the two clubs.

Skipp is set to undergo a medical in the East Midlands on Sunday before completing his permanent move to Steve Cooper's side, with the deal being viewed as a 'good deal all round' and suitable for all parties.

Skipp, who spent a superb campaign on loan at Norwich City in 2020-21 as he won the Championship with the Canaries, has made 24 appearances for England's under-21 side but having failed to kick on in north London, finally looks set to realise his Premier League dream alongside former Spurs starlet Harry Winks in the centre of the park under Cooper.

Tottenham Need Midfield Experience

The north London outfit have signed plenty of youth this season

Tottenham have seen Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg depart for Marseille this summer and so back-up midfield ranks have been depleted in an experience sense, though youngsters Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray - who both jetted into the club at the start of July - will replace them in a sense of talent on the field.

However, Postecoglou has lost two stars who have featured in over 200 Premier League games for the club combined, alongside Hojbjerg's 109 top-flight outings for Southampton and as a result, someone else could be brought in as a foil - not only to fill the gap Skipp has left, but to ease Gray and Bergvall into the Premier League.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Skipp has only scored one goal for Tottenham - a thunderous strike against rivals Chelsea two seasons ago.

They already boast Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur as their central midfield options with experience but there could be room for another star to join the club. That could come in the form of Manuel Locatelli, who has been linked in a £20million move from Serie A giants Juventus.

With a fee of over £20million being noted for Skipp, he could be a direct replacement to add quality into their ranks and set Tottenham up for a superb campaign both domestically and continentally.

Tottenham Could Sign 'Young' Players After Odobert Deal

Tottenham secures Odobert, prioritizes young talents for season

Focus shift on youngsters seen as long-term options for Spurs

Vanderson eyed as potential upgrade to strengthen squad

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the permanent signing of ex-Burnley ace Wilson Odobert today and, in response, BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella has suggested that Ange Postecoglou and Co will now shift their focus on ‘young back-up options’.

Ahead of an all-important Premier League season, one in which they’ll be hoping to secure top four credentials, the north Londoners have been busy bolstering their squad in an array of areas.

Having finished just outside the Champions League spots, on 66 points, last time out, Tottenham may struggle to keep up with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City in 2024/25, but have every chance to cause a few upsets along the way.

Tottenham’s Focus Shifts to Youngsters after Odobert Signing

Jens Hjerto-Dahl, 18, is among those of interest

Central midfield duo Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, both 18 years of age, have arrived on the white half of north London this summer but are viewed as long-term options rather than those who can make an immediate difference, particularly the former.

Formerly of Gangwon FC, Min-Hyuk Yang has been added to Postecoglou’s attacking options, while they also broke the bank on the signature of Dominic Solanke, all while breaking their club-record transfer.

Their most recent addition is Odobert, who has 29 Premier League outings already under his belt. Responding to Odobert's exit announcement on Burnley's X (formerly Twitter) account, the ever-reliable Kinsella praised the signing of the 19-year-old.

He also suggested that, after signing the Frenchman, Tottenham’s focus has now shifted on adding youngsters, who are likely to be back-ups, to their squad in the latter stage of the summer transfer window.

“Wow, that’s a great signing for Tottenham. That’s pretty much their summer business sewn up apart from some young back-up options.”

One of those youngsters that Spurs have their eye on is 18-year-old Jens Hjerto-Dahl, who currently plies his trade for Norwegian outfit Tromso IL, according to HITC.

The report states that there are a litany of clubs – from all corners of Europe including Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund – who are interested in the 6ft 4in midfielder’s signature this summer.

Monaco’s Vanderson Admired by Tottenham Chiefs

French club demanding £34.27m (€40m) for his services

Going against what Kinsella suggested about Tottenham’s targeting youngsters for the rest of the summer, journalist Bruno Andrade has reported that AS Monaco and Brazil star Vanderson, 23, has been eyed by the north London-based outfit.

On the back of Emerson Royal’s departure to AC Milan, Andrade took to X to suggest that Tottenham had ‘opened talks’ with the French club over a prospective transfer this summer, with Monaco holding out for an offer in the region of £34.27 million (€40m).

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Vanderson has plundered 11 goals and 13 assists across his 143-game career at Monaco and Gremio.

Djed Spence is currently deployed as Postecoglou’s second choice right-back behind the primary option, Pedro Porro, but Vanderson is viewed as an upgrade on the former, with him previously described as ‘complete’ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.

The twice-capped Brazil international, who is under contract until the summer of 2028, totted up 23 appearances across all competitions last season, all while having to navigate around an array of hip and knee injuries.

9 Best Home Kits in Tottenham History (Ranked)

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Highlights

Tottenham have had countless legendary kits over the years.

Spurs won the FA Cup while wearing an iconic Umbro kit in the early 1990s.

Kits from Under Armour, Nike and Hummel have been highlighted for their beauty and iconic moments.

Ever since Tottenham Hotspur were formed in 1888, they have been one of the most successful clubs in the world. Their best spell came in the 1960s, becoming the first side ever to complete the league and cup double before cementing their place in the record books as the first English team to win a European trophy.

Throughout these historic triumphs, which have stretched into the 21st century, Tottenham have worn some of the best kits of all time to go alongside them. From shirts made by Nike, Hummel, Umbro and taking a throwback to Pony, the greatest Spurs players of all time have always looked impressive in the famous lilywhite.

With a beauty that has epitomised the club's motto, audere est facere — 'to dare is to do' in English — the kits which have been worn on the famous hallowed turf at White Hart Lane and now the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have left fans amazed by their beauty. They've symbolised the club's identity - through the good times and the bad - leaving some nostalgic about the years gone by. Here are the best of the best.

Ranking Factors

Style - what the kit looks like is the most important thing.

Iconic Moments - The most important kits have memorable moments.

Key Players - Kits are more recognisable when they have iconic players like Harry Kane and Glenn Hoddle in them. During the era of poor Spurs sides, the kits are rarely remembered.

The 2020/2021 campaign. That weird old season which no one really remembers, as the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the nation and made everyone realise football is utterly soulless without fans. It was a nightmare for Spurs supporters in particular; not only did the clubs lose millions just after opening a state-of-the-art stadium, but they could also not witness Gareth Bale's return in person.

As one of the greatest wingers in Premier League history, he was electric — and his form in the 2020/21 kit at the end of the season will forever make it iconic. It was bold, unconventional and risky of Spurs to produce a jersey completely different to previous years. But it worked. Worn during a famous 6-1 win away to Manchester United, it will forever be a part of Spurs' crazy history.

Tottenham have high hopes going into the 2024/25 season. Under Ange Postecoglou, they are full of belief — and their kit for the campaign is a thing of beauty. It keeps the classic ideas used for every Spurs kit — a white base with dark navy trims. You can't go wrong with it and, aside from the red AIA logo which is despised by fans and continues to go against the club's identity, its simplicity is superb.

The kit is made from Dri-FIT ADV, an innovative fabric designed to help keep the players cool. "Featuring a bold collar and striped details, it is inspired by some of the team's most iconic kits of the past," the club stated at the time of the announcement.

Going back through the years, Tottenham's Kappa kit for the 2005/06 season was one of the things that inspired the current campaign's design. Boasting navy sleeves and a stylish white base, it was a kit that stood out from the crowd, despite being relatively simple. Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe, two of the greatest Spurs strikers ever, shone in this stylish strip, adding to its iconic status.

There's one major downside to this kit, though. It was worn in Spurs' final match of the Premier League season — the infamous Lasagna gate. The Lilywhites needed a win to secure Champions League qualification ahead of bitter rivals Arsenal, but the majority of the squad were struck down with food poisoning, seeing them lose 2-1 to West Ham and miss out on fourth spot.

Kappa opted for a fully white base from 2002 to 2004. The design which was worn across two campaigns was one of the few positives from this bleak period. Spurs were struggling on the pitch, finishing 10th under club icon Glenn Hoddle before he was sacked the following season as Tottenham slumped to 14th place. Matters were only made worse by the fine form of the club's biggest rivals at the same time.

Despite the disappointing results, the pure beauty of the kit keeps it on this list. It got the balance right, you could clearly tell it was a Spurs shirt, and the neckline provided something different to the modern day. With a tight fit, it also pleased fans who opted to buy it. Simply stunning.

Going into the new millennium, Spurs had reason to be concerned. With a 10th-placed finish and then a 12th-placed finish, performances on the pitch were once again concerning, but their style was on another level. Their home kit epitomised what nostalgia is all about.

It's iconic, with a beautiful navy collar, piping detail on the sleeves, and a lovely additional Spurs label towards the bottom of the torso giving it personality compared to others. The only downside is that Tottenham's partnership with Adidas was all too brief; the pair could have produced so many more stunning designs if they had continued working with one another.

Glenn Hoddle is Tottenham's greatest midfielder of all time. With an elegance, sophistication and natural style that most footballers could only dream of, he treated the football pitch like it was his personal stage. That only made Tottenham's home kit from 1985 to 1987 even more memorable.

Spurs had a strong partnership with Hummel in the 1980s, producing countless stunning shirts, but they peaked with this one. Equipped with the iconic chevron lines down the sleeves, diagonal pinstripes on the chest and a deep v-neck collar that was only acceptable in the 1980s, they created a masterpiece. Even remakes today are popular — and the original is worth hundreds.

Mauricio Pochettino oversaw the best team Tottenham had produced since the 1960s. They came so close to winning the Premier League, not once, but twice. Heartbreak for Spurs, yet the years are still looked back on fondly, particularly as the 2016/17 campaign was their last-ever season at White Hart Lane. From August to May, Tottenham went the entire Premier League season unbeaten at home — and that helps Under Armour's argument that this is the greatest modern-day Spurs shirt.

With gold trims - which would have been perfect if they won the title - and a navy section at the top, it was different to the conventional Spurs shirt, but it worked. Watching Mousa Dembele, Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld and any other legendary Spurs player in the jersey is what football is all about.

From one legendary Tottenham team to one that wants to be forgotten. The north London side finished 14th in the 1997/98 campaign, as their bitter rivals Arsenal won the league and cup double. However, nostalgia from a Spurs perspective looks past the performances, simply remembering the beauty of the kit instead. Made by Pony, a trip down memory lane by itself, it was a simple yet effective kit.

The v-neck, patterns on the sleeves, and old-school Hewlett Packard sponsor all made it look superb, whilst having David Ginola, who carried Spurs on his back week in and week out, made it even better. It's part of the genius of football fans — ignore the bad parts of the season, but remember the very best.

Tottenham's Umbro kit from 1991 to 1993 has been ranked as their best-ever home kit. Not only was it a stunning jersey, but Spurs also won the FA Cup in it, beating Nottingham Forest 2-1 in the 1991 final. However, even if the Lilywhites did taste yet more heartbreak in the final, this kit would still be featured on this list.

With a stunning collar which stood out compared to other clubs, the buttons to do it up, and the details on the neck which added personality to an otherwise all-white shirt, Umbro went above and beyond. There are so many great touches of beauty that make it memorable more than 30 years on.

Ranking the 9 Best Players to Wear Number 10 For Tottenham

Description

Highlights

Shirt numbers signify player roles and hold deep significance around the world.

Harry Kane tops Spurs' number ten list with a prolific scoring record despite his trophy drought.

Over the years, Jimmy Greaves, Robbie Keane and Gary Lineker have also worn the iconic shirt number.

Around the world, football shirt numbers hold a deep significance. Looking at a 'four' or 'six' immediately connotes a defensive-minded player, whilst it's the same story further up the field. The number ten is often seen as the most prestigious shirt number around, with some of the best players of all time holding that honour.

A number ten is typically seen as an attacking playmaker, capable of dictating matches, pinging balls out wide and creating chances in the final third. However, they can also be a striker, with modern football changing conventions. In Tottenham Hotspur's case, some of the best strikers in the club's history have worn number 10.

Due to this, we have decided to rank the nine greatest players in Spurs' history to wear the number ten jersey. From attacking midfielders to strikers, it's a list full of talent — and some, which is crazy to say considering the Lilywhites have not won a trophy since 2008, have even picked up silverware. The longevity of their spell in the shirt is the most important thing to consider.

Ranking Factors

Longevity - The number of club appearances and their consistency — including how long they wore the shirt for.

Output - Key attacking metrics such as goals and assists.

'Eye test' - Whether they were capable of causing defenders nightmares.

Years in the number ten shirt: 1982-1983

With Glenn Hoddle typically wearing the number ten shirt during Ricky Villa's time at the club, he wore it very infrequently, but when he did, he showed all the characteristics that made him a 'true number ten'. Epitomising that, his goal in the 1981 FA Cup created years of memories. And still Ricky Villa... what a fantastic run," John Motson passionately said, as he scored one of the greatest FA Cup final goals of all time with a dazzling run against Manchester City. After that moment, he continued to kick on, dictating matches with elegance and sophistication.

Years in the number ten shirt: 2003-2008, 2009-2011

Although Villa was a more talented player than Robbie Keane, his longevity at Spurs, particularly as their number ten, places him above. The Irishman was one of the most entertaining strikers to ever play for Spurs, most notably through his iconic front-flip celebrations.

Over the course of those seasons, he scored 122 goals in 306 matches, averaging a goal in under three games. For a striker who was regularly alongside someone else, particularly Jermain Defoe, it was an impressive record. Keane has remained a well-loved figure in the Tottenham fanbase, even if other strikers had more natural skill than him.

Years in the number ten shirt: 1970-1975

Martin Peters is more famous for his iconic status at West Ham and for winning the World Cup in 1966. However, he did also ply his trade for Tottenham later in his career. The midfielder moved to N17 in 1970 after feeling he was in the shadows of Geoff Hurst and Bobby Moore, two of the greatest English players ever.

When Alan Mullery left for Fulham in 1972, Bill Nicholson made Peters club captain — and, following on from this, in the 1973 Football League Cup final, Peters was the winning skipper as they defeated Norwich City 1-0. With his work going under the radar, Peters was an impressive number 10 for Spurs.

Years in the number ten shirt: 1964-1970

Overlapping slightly with Jimmy Greaves, Alan Gilzean also went partially under the radar at Spurs. However, when he was at his best, there were very few better players. The traditional striker joined in 1964 and enjoyed a glittering career with the Lilywhites; his partnership with Greaves saw the nickname 'G-Men' created, whilst he helped the club win four trophies during his spell.

With 110 goals in 398 appearances, it was a phenomenal record for someone rarely in the main spotlight. When Greaves left, Martin Chivers joined, but whoever was in the final third formed an impressive partnership with Gilzean.

Years in the number ten shirt: 1992-1997, 2001-2003

In two impressive spells at Tottenham, Teddy Sheringham was always number ten. He was the main man, carrying a weight of expectation that saw Spurs fans always get off their seat in anticipation. From 1992 to 1997, he was one of the best strikers in the league, even winning the club's Player of the Season award in 1995.

After winning the treble with Manchester United, he returned in 2001, providing a different style - which was hardly surprising due to his age - but proving to be just as effective. World-class in every sense, seeing him score 124 goals in 277 matches.

Years in the number ten shirt: 1989-1992

As one of the most well-known people in the sports industry, Gary Lineker has had a phenomenal career on and off the pitch. His time at Tottenham was brief, from 1989 to 1992, but he still shone, even winning the FA Cup in 1991. The former Leicester City striker scored 74 goals in 122 matches, which included him being the top division's second-highest goalscorer in the 1991/1992 season with 28 goals from 35 games, only behind Ian Wright, who scored 29 times in 42 games. He never did the 'hard work', but Lineker's ability to stay in the box, find space and consistently find the back of the net was remarkable.

Years in the number ten shirt: 1978-1987

A magician. Gliding around the final third with elegance, style and composure, very few could ever get close to Glenn Hoddle's natural talent. It was shown with his final-ever goal for the club against Oxford, as he took the ball from his own half, and dazzled past a handful of defenders before rounding the goalkeeper. Stunning.

Before then, he was feared by everyone as well. The 1979/1980 campaign showcased the emergence of Hoddle as a world-class player, scoring 19 goals in 41 league appearances. He was a classic number ten, always looking to dictate matches.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: In 2007, Glenn was inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame, which cited him as one of the most gifted and creative English footballers of his generation.

Years in the number ten shirt: 1961-1968

Countless older fans will argue Jimmy Greaves is Tottenham's greatest player of all time, so maybe he should be higher on this list. However, he was famous for his spell in the number eight shirt, with his appearances with the iconic ten less common. Greaves stood as the club's record goalscorer until a particular England captain came along, scoring 266 goals in 379 appearances.

He joined in 1961, and over the course of nine years, he won two FA Cups, most notably. By the time he left the club, he had scored 15 hat-tricks, which remains a club record. "Give him an inch and he'll take a mile" is the perfect sentence to describe the striker's talents.

Years in the number ten shirt: 2015-2023

Rising from the academy to the first team, Harry Kane was Tottenham personified. With a love for the club that no one matched, the Englishman defied logic to become one of the greatest Premier League players ever — and most of it was done in the famous number ten shirt, which is why he tops this list.

He scored 278 goals in just 430 matches, but remarkably, he left the club without a trophy, which will forever remain a stain on his Tottenham career. Yet, despite the trophy-less jokes, Kane is one of the greatest strikers of all time, acting as 'one of their own' in the Premier League.

Tottenham to Allow Four Players to Leave in Coming Days

Tottenham Hotspur have now shifted their focus to outgoings following the arrival of five new players so far this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge.

Ange Postecoglou landed his primary target last week when Dominic Solanke completed a big money move from Premier League rivals Bournemouth. They have also bolstered the squad with the arrivals of Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert and Lucas Bergvall.

The 2024/25 campaign will be the Australian manager’s second season in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium following his arrival last summer. In 2023/24, Spurs ended the campaign fifth in the standings, and they secured Europa League football for the upcoming season.

Outgoings ‘expected’ at Spurs

Four players could be on the move

Following a flurry of new arrivals, Sky Sports journalist Bridge now says the focus will shift to outgoings as the transfer deadline nears. Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon are the players expected to depart on a permanent basis.

Youngsters Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips are also likely to leave on loan deals in a bid to gain more first-team action. This will be on top of the 11 players Spurs have already bid farewell to this summer, albeit some only on a temporary basis.

Bridge told Sky Sports News:

“The focus over the next few days is going to be on outgoings. In particular, Lo Celso, who will command a decent transfer fee. I don’t think he’s an Ange Postecoglou player.

“Reguilon also doesn’t have a future at Spurs, and there’s a few younger lads that are probably going to go out on loan, Devine and Phillips. Ange’s key target was Solanke, he’s now got a winger in [as well], but I still think there might be one or two things before deadline day,”

Unai Emery ‘pushing’ to sign Spurs midfielder

Aston Villa are keen on signing Lo Celso

One of the names reportedly expected to depart before the transfer deadline is Lo Celso, and he certainly isn’t short of potential suitors. Reports in Spain suggest Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is pushing to sign the 28-year-old.

Outlet Fichajes report that Villa are eager to bolster their midfield ranks further, despite already signing Amadou Onana from league rivals Everton. It has been claimed that the Villa boss believes Lo Celso is a strong fit for his system and style of play.

Emery and Lo Celso are well-accustomed as the Spanish coach worked with the midfielder at both Villarreal and Paris Saint-Germain. The player has just one year remaining on his contract at Tottenham, and it has been suggested the north London club will look to recoup a fee worth at least £13million.

It has also been suggested Villa face competition from both Roma and Real Betis for his signature, but the lure of Champions League football under Emery might be enough to convince him to move. Lo Celso moved to Tottenham in 2020, following an initial loan spell with the club.

Should he leave, Spurs could look to replace him with Italy star Manuel Locatelli with a £20million offer to Juventus reportedly being readied.

Tottenham Prepare £27million Offer for Vanderson

Tottenham are reportedly preparing an offer of around £27 million for AS Monaco talent, Vanderson, according to Bruno Andrade.

Spurs recently sanctioned the sale of Emerson Royal to AC Milan, earning a fee of around £15million in the process. With Pedro Porro assuming the responsibilities at right-back, the north London outfit may not be in an immediate rush to secure an additional signing for that position.

However, GIVEMESPORT exclusively revealed recently that the club were considering the prospect of signing Vanderson this summer, but the player's asking price remained an obstacle in their pursuit. However, it looks as though Tottenham are now willing to test Monaco's resolve with an initial bid.

Tottenham Target Vanderson to Bolster Defense

Right-back was previously on Manchester United's shortlist

In an update to X (formerly Twitter), Bruno Andrade revealed that Tottenham are finalizing an offer of around £27 million plus add-ons for Monaco full-back, Vanderson. Both clubs remain in talks over a potential move before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.

The Brazilian climbed the ranks at Gremio before making the switch to European football with Monaco in Ligue 1. Alongside three impressive seasons in the French top-division, Vanderson has also earned two senior caps for his country. His efforts have earned him the recognition of several top European clubs, including Manchester United.

The Red Devils reportedly had the 23-year-old on their shortlist during their search for a successor to Aaron Wan-Bissaka's role in the squad. Ultimately, they settled on Noussair Mazraoui instead, which has now paved the way for Tottenham to have a free run at Vanderson's signature.

Ange Postecoglou has been impressed with Pedro Porro's contributions at right-back, but Emerson Royal's exit from the club has opened the space for a new deputy to step up. The club recently changed their mind on a transfer for Djed Spence, who may now be expected to stay as additional squad depth this season, but the Australian may still not be convinced by the 24-year-old.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Djed Spence has failed to register a single senior goal or assist in two seasons of football, with his last contribution coming in the EFL Championship during his time with Nottingham Forest.

Spence has spent several spells out on loan with the likes of Rennes, Leeds and Genoa but he has struggled to leave his mark at any of the three. Postecoglou may not see him as ready to take on the role as understudy to Porro, and so the club's approach for Vanderson, who has been described as the "complete full-back" is justified.

Tottenham Could Step Up Chase for Manuel Locatelli

Manager looks to add more to a talented midfield crop

Spurs have introduced several first-team capable talents to the squad this summer, including the likes of Dominic Solanke and Archie Gray, but they still remain in the market for additional opportunities and a move for Manuel Locatelli could subsequently be on the cards. The Italian, who has previously been described as a "monster", could contribute vital experience alongside the club's young midfield core.

Tottenham Eye Two More Transfers After Wilson Odobert

Tottenham Hotspur are yet to conclude the summer transfer window business after securing Wilson Odobert’s signature as, according to agent Paul O’Keefe, the club are hoping to sign a new defender and midfielder before the end of the month.

It’s been a busy period in Ange Postecoglou’s second summer in north London as they prepare for their Premier League curtain raiser against Leicester City on Monday 18 August, one in which they hope to emphatically win.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Postecoglou has a 1.68 points per match rate across his 41-game tenure in charge of Tottenham.

They broke the bank for ex-Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke, signed 18-year-old duo Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray to reinforce their options in the centre of the park, secured the signature of Min-Hyuk Yang and have welcomed Odobert too from Burnley.

Tottenham Look to Bolster Defence and Midfield

Locatelli of Juventus eyed as midfield reinforcement

Despite getting the aforementioned quintet of names, the north Londoners are still keen to end the summer transfer window on a positive note by adding a few more faces to the fold.

According to journalist O’Keefe, who answered a fan’s question on X (formerly Twitter), the midfield and back line are still areas in which Postecoglou and the club are keen to bolster.

From a midfield perspective, Juventus and Italy star Manuel Locatelli is being eyed, with Football Insider reporting that Tottenham are eager to secure his signature before the end of the trading period.

Despite the additions of Bergvall and Gray this summer, the report states that Tottenham’s higher-ups are looking to add a wealth of experience to their engine room in order to implement a level of control and poise.

Elsewhere, Tottenham are succession planning with them ‘eyeing a move’ for 18-year-old central midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl, HITC have reported. While the 6ft 4in starlet would not be a nailed-on regular in senior proceedings, his talent and exuberance of youth would set the north London-based outfit up for the future.

In defence, Emerson Royal’s departure to AC Milan has left Postecoglou and co shortchanged in the right-back area and, as a result, they are reportedly ‘in talks’ with representatives of Monaco and Brazil ace Vanderson.

The Brazilian, according to journalist Bruno Andrade, will cost any potential suitor £34.27 million (€40m) this summer, with the French club eager to retain his services beyond this summer.

Tottenham Considering Another Forward Addition

Solanke expected to lead the line for Spurs this season

Despite O’Keefe revealing that Tottenham are strictly looking to bolster their defence and midfield, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has exclusively told GIVEMESPORT that signing another forward could be on the cards for the north Londoners.

Solanke is expected to lead the line for the Greek-Australian custodian this term, coming off the back of his career-best return of 21 strikes and four assists in all competitions, but Romano has revealed that Tottenham will not shy away from adding extra firepower this summer.

Richarlison is the club’s current second choice to play in the centre forward berth, while skipper Son Heung-min – a winger by trade – also has the ability to perform in that role – but Postecoglou could sign an archetypal No.9 before the 30 August deadline.

Highlights

Wearing the number seven at Tottenham means being bold and dynamic, breaking into the final third.

Over the years, Ossie Ardiles, Ricky Villa and Aaron Lennon have all pulled on the famous shirt.

Club captain Son Heung-min has worn the number seven with distinction since joining Tottenham in 2015.

At every club, several shirt numbers hold more prestige than the rest. One of those is the number seven jersey, with those wearing it entrusted with being an aggressive, dynamic player, who typically breaks into the final third to create chances. Most wingers dream of wearing number seven for their boyhood football team.

Tottenham Hotspur's club motto, audere est facere - which translates to 'to dare is to do' in English - directly correlates with the traditional intentions of those who wear the number seven. They should be attacking, bold, exciting and always capable of getting fans off their seats. Over the years, countless Spurs players have done exactly that.

From the 1960s to the modern day, some of the best players of all time have pulled on the famous number seven at Spurs. Here are the greatest to have been handed that honour. However, it's important to note that some legendary players did wear the number seven shirt, but it was such a short period of time that they have not been included — Jimmy Greaves falls under this category.

Ranking Factors

Longevity - The number of club appearances and their consistency.

Output - Key attacking metrics such as goals and assists.

'Eye test' - Whether they were capable of causing defenders nightmares.

Years in the number seven shirt: 1964–1965

As a key member of the 1961 double-winning side, Terry Dyson was always praised for his work ethic and ability to never give up. It's arguably the most important thing for a footballer — and he epitomised that. In the 2008 edition of the Tottenham Hotspur Player by Player guide, Dyson was described as "a hyperactive beaver who could contribute in all areas of the pitch and who would donate his dying breath to the common cause." His ability to drive into the final third, pick out a teammate or go for goal himself captured the essence of the classic number seven.

Years in the number seven shirt: 1956–1959, 1961–1963

Terry Medwin was always a consistent name on the Tottenham teamsheet throughout the second half of the 1950s and early '60s - the jinking Wales international would have enjoyed an even longer career in north London had he not broken his leg during a tour of South Africa in 1963.

As a right-winger, he was dangerous, looking to take players on and drive forward into the final third. Considering there were countless goalscorers in the team, he was never the 'most important' player, but he was always reliable — featuring in the 1962 FA Cup win against Burnley. Spurs have struggled to taste success in the modern day, yet Medwin did not have that issue, winning the double in 1961.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Tottenham became the first team to complete the double since the 19th century in 1961.

Years in the number seven shirt: 1986–1987

Plying his trade as an attacking playmaker, Chris Waddle was not a conventional number seven — and maybe that's why he only wore it for a brief spell during the 1986/87 season. Typically, he was Spurs' number nine. Waddle, who is one of England's greatest players of all time, joined the club in 1985 for £590,000.

From either side, he was a constant threat, but he remarkably never won a trophy, only picking up the individual Player of the Year award in 1988. As part of the runners-up in the 1987 FA Cup, he was always let down by others on the pitch.

Years in the number seven shirt: 1975–1976

A magician. Glenn Hoddle, who is seen as Tottenham's greatest midfielder of all time, typically defied logic with his gracefulness in the final third. As 'one of their own', the 1979/80 campaign showcased the emergence of Hoddle as a world-class player. At the time, the 22-year-old midfielder scored 19 goals in 41 league appearances, seeing him awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year award at the end of the season. He even won the UEFA Cup in 1984 — and the only reason he is not higher on this list is because he only wore the number seven shirt in his first season. The legend was normally wearing the number 10.

Years in the number seven shirt: 1978–1979, 1981–1983

"And still Ricky Villa... what a fantastic run," John Motson passionately said. To younger fans, that might mean nothing, but to those of a certain vintage, it's one of the most iconic commentary lines of all time. In the 1981 FA Cup final, Villa scored one of the greatest FA Cup final goals of all time with a dazzling run against Manchester City. It won Spurs the cup and, to this day, it is still remembered as one of the greatest moments in club history. His partnership with Ossie Ardiles created an unexpected Argentinian connection with Spurs, as Villa scored 20 goals during a phenomenal career in N17. He was adored by all.

Years in the number seven shirt: 1999–2004

Darren Anderton became Tottenham's number seven midway through his career in N17 — and it proved worthwhile. As a playmaker who could also drift out wide, he typically dazzled his way past opponents, always looking to beat them one-on-one and break into the final third.

He wasn't just a fancy winger though; by picking up a staggering tally of goal contributions - 110 in 351 matches remarkably - he was a key member for Spurs during a disappointing period when they languished miles behind their main rivals Arsenal. His longevity places him higher than some of the best Tottenham players of all time.

Years in the number seven shirt: 2008–2015

Aaron Lennon was 'to dare is to do' personified. With his quick feet, willingness to take players on and electric pace — which saw him rank as one of the fastest players in Premier League history — fans adored him. Throughout his career, Lennon tormented countless full-backs with his direct running and thrilling last-ditch changes in direction, boasting 30 goals and 76 assists in 363 games, which is a phenomenal record for someone who was never focused on their end product. This only made him a true 'number seven', which is deeply missed in the modern day, as some of the best wingers in the world opt to pass instead of run.

Years in the number seven shirt: 1979–1986

For the Spurs fanbase, there are not enough wonderfully put-together adjectives and superlatives to describe Ossie Ardiles. The legendary midfielder arrived at the same time as Ricky Villa, even sharing this number with him at times — and he made a remarkable impact.

Ardiles helped Tottenham win the FA Cup in his third season there, but off the pitch, he collaborated with Chas and Dave to create Tottenham's legendary final song 'Ossie's Dream'. He was capable of dominating battles in the middle of the park and briefly took over as the club's manager in the mid-1990s. To this day, he is still widely involved with the club. Wearing the number seven shirt for seven years helped cement his legendary status.

Years in the number seven shirt: 2015–Present

Spurs' current club captain has been ranked as their greatest number seven of all time. Arriving in 2015 for just £22m, Son Heung-min took time to adapt, but he eventually became one of the best widemen in the Premier League. He places fifth on Tottenham's all-time top scorer list, and he has won several accolades since, most notably the 2020 Puskas Award and the 2021/22 Premier League Golden Boot.

All he is missing is a team trophy, losing two finals since arriving. Ever since joining, the best clubs in the world have wanted to secure his signature, but he has always remained faithful, playing with the famous number seven on his back in every single match.
