I played with Kane & Dele at Spurs, now I'm having a nightmare in Romania

Despite that chaotic 3-2 defeat to Brighton, Tottenham supporters must be feeling pretty happy at how the Ange Postecoglou era is going.

The style of football can be a bit disorganised but you're always guaranteed one thing with Spurs; entertainment. They play high press, with a high line and want to attack. It's a shame Gareth Southgate didn't have that motto over the summer with England.

Alas, Spurs look good and finally appear like a team who are no longer missing Harry Kane. Dominic Solanke arrived for a £65m fee over the summer and has three goals to his name already despite an injury-hit first few weeks in London.

However, it's Welshman Brennan Johnson who looks like the real Kane replacement right now, scoring six goals in his last half-a-dozen outings for the Lilywhites. It's quite the revival for a man who received horrific abuse for his performance against Arsenal a month ago.

At long, long last, Spurs are no longer reliant on what their all-time record goalscorer brought to the club. They've been searching for someone since the days of Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino's best and worst signings at Spurs

A year prior to the Argentine's arrival in the English capital, it was a big old summer for Spurs. Gareth Bale was sold for a mega £85m fee to Real Madrid and in walked the likes of Roberto Soldado, Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen to name a few.

While Eriksen went on to become a Spurs icon, registering 88 assists and 69 goals across 305 outings, Soldado was sold just two years into Pochettino's tenure, leaving for Villarreal after scoring just 16 goals in 76 matches. How the current USA manager replaced him was a strange one to say the least.

While club icons Heung-min Son and Toby Alderweireld both joined in 2015 - Poch's second summer at the helm - it also saw Kevin Wimmer and Clinton N'Jie arrive.

In 2016 it was the turn of another club flop Vincent Janssen to arrive in the capital and he was joined by another notable dud Georges-Kevin N'Koudou. It's safe to say that for every Son and Dele Alli that Pochettino acquired, there was a N'Jie or Serge Aurier.

So, where are some of those big-money duds now? Well, Janssen is actually having a happy time of it out in Belgium where the Dutch striker has scored 41 goals in 104 matches for Royal Antwerp after a spell in Mexico. But what about N'Jie? Things are far less successful for the Cameroon ace.

What happened to Clinton N'Jie after leaving Spurs

In 2015, Soldado had just left and Emmanuel Adebayor wasn't handed a squad number. Bleak times indeed which left Pochettino with a sole senior striker; Kane.

He tried to solve the lack of depth by bringing N'Jie to the club in a £12m transfer from Lyon. Upon his arrival, which also happened to be his birthday, the forward stated that he was "very happy to join Tottenham", hailing them as "such a big club in England."

Sadly, it never really worked out for the 44-cap Cameroon international who departed after just 14 goalless games for the club.

In that time, he played alongside the likes of Kane, Dele and Eriksen but even for three marvellous players, they could not get a tune out of N'Jie.

So, what's he doing in the year 2024? Well, he's struggling...again. After spells with Marseille, Dynamo Moscow and Sivasspor in Turkey, the 31-year-old is now playing in Romania for Rapid Bucuresti having signed for them a month ago.

Since arriving in the Romanian capital, his club side have played four games but N'Jie hasn't appeared in a single one of them. French outlet Foot Mercato recently remarked that things have started 'very badly' for him.

Why hasn't he played? Administrative reasons. The former Tottenham man has a work permit and is currently in training but all of the paperwork is yet to be accepted.

Even without taking to the field, the Cameroon international has been the subject of criticism. Writing for Gazeta Sporturilor, journalist Narcis Drejan stated: "Rapid is making a big mistake! N'Jie and Boupendza are two vagabonds, the kind of players who miss training. When they see what Bucharest has to offer... […] They know they have value, but they have no pressure, they come for the money, to have fun, they no longer come for football." Harsh words indeed.

This is a player who has clearly had a successful career - you don't earn 44 caps for your country without it being so - just he has failed to ever live up to the mass potential that Spurs hoped they had invested in nine years ago.

Spurs want to sign £30m "wonderkid" who's better than Brennan Johnson

There comes a certain point in your career where everything just clicks. It comes together in an instant and all of a sudden you're justifying the enormous price tag paid for your services. Tottenham's Brennan Johnson is enjoying that realisation right now.

The Welshman has been a man-possessed in recent weeks, scoring in six straight games for Spurs and he even made it seven in seven by scoring for his country a few days ago.

It's a remarkable turnaround, truth be told. The winger was the subject of vile abuse following his underwhelming display in the north London derby defeat to Arsenal, abuse that made him deactivate his social media.

Well, that looks like the best decision of his career. Since that moment his incredible run in front of goal has commenced. He now looks the real deal, but that won't deter Ange Postecoglou and Co from entering the transfer market to strengthen the squad.

Spurs chasing English winger

One of the main target areas for Postecoglou to improve over the recent summer window was the striker region.

They hadn't replace Harry Kane and Heung-min Son cannot do it all by himself. So, they shelled out £65m to bring Bournemouth's Dominic Solanke down to the capital.

With three goals and two assists to his name already, he looks like a fine signing for the Lilywhites.

They could now sign another promising English player according to reports out of Germany where BILD suggest that Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens is of interest.

They write that 'top clubs are increasingly keen' on signing the winger who is being scouted by Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool ahead of a move in 2025.

How Gittens compares to Brennan Johnson

As talent scout Jacek Kulig has labelled the Dortmund sensation, he is a "wonderkid". Just 20 years of age, it surely won't be too long before the exciting young winger is given a chance by England.

After all, he has been on fire for Dortmund this term as he follows in the footsteps of the likes of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham by shining in the Bundesliga.

Gitten has already scored four times in nine outings this term and has two assists under his belt. It's slightly behind Johnson's haul of six goals in all competitions but he is far more complete at such a young age.

The largest difference is that the young forward is a left winger by trade, preferring to cut inside rather than run at his defensive marker on the outside as Johnson does. What that does mean is that the pair could star alongside each other in the same Spurs team.

They both boast impressive pace but where do the other similarities or differences lie? We've crunched the numbers.

So, as we can see from the data above, it's a pretty resounding win for Mr Gittens. The electric Dortmund talent is exactly that; electric. He beats his man with ease and even though Johnson's pace resembles a cheetah, it's Gittens who comes out on top for progressive carries and take-ons by a country mile.

A carry is considered progressive if the ball is moved towards the opponent's goal at least 10 yards from its starting point or is carried into the penalty area.

Johnson may supply more key passes but it's Gittens who is registering more assists in league action per 90 minutes.

The Dortmund star is capable of playing on the right-hand side of the pitch and thus, could usurp the Wales international by joining Spurs. However, the appeal of being able to field them on opposite wings is an exciting proposition.

Tottenham now want to beat Arsenal to sign "amazing" new midfielder in 2025

Following a mixed start to the current campaign, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly already identified a 2025 transfer target in a battle with rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham transfer news

Spurs remain one of the most difficult sides to predict in the Premier League. Whilst things were finally looking up after they brushed Manchester United aside to win 3-0 at Old Trafford, they've since followed that up with a narrow victory over Ferencvaros in the Europa League before capitulating when 2-0 up against Brighton & Hove Albion to lose 3-2 in dramatic fashion.

Heading into the international break off the back of such a frustrating result, the focus has since shifted towards further reinforcements for Ange Postecoglou and his side, who already welcomed the likes of Archie Gray and Dominic Solanke in the summer.

In fact, the Lilywhites have already reportedly started thinking about next summer's transfer window and one particular target. According to Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider, Tottenham have already identified Georgiy Sudakov as a transfer target for next summer and could make the Shakhtar Donetsk star their first arrival of the new year.

The Lilywhites aren't alone in their interest, however, with Manchester City and Arsenal also keen to add the attacking midfield to their ranks next year to create a highly-contested battle for his signature.

Still just 22 years old, Sudakov is quickly becoming one to watch amid an electric start to the current campaign. A player who's already got Champions League experience to his name, the Ukraine international would undoubtedly be an impressive coup to hand Postecoglou a major boost in North London next year.

"Amazing" Sudakov could unleash Solanke

As if things couldn't get any better for Solanke, who has well and truly found his goalscoring touch at Spurs, those in North London could now welcome an added source of creativity in Sudakov. The attacking midfielder, combined with the former Liverpool man, would form the foundation for Postecoglou's attack for years to come, perhaps taking Spurs back to the Champions League in the process.

The introduction of another creative midfielder alongside the likes of James Maddison could only increase Solanke's numbers even further, whilst handing Postecoglou another player capable of getting on the scoresheet himself.

Praised for his "amazing" diagonal passing ability by analyst Ben Mattinson, Sudakov is a player who looks destined to reach the very top. The only question is the route that he takes. Whether he stops in North London, and Spurs in particular, on his way to the top remains to be seen.

Given how inconsistent they've been so far this season, the Lilywhites could certainly do with a reinforcement of such calibre in what would see them avoid losing out to Premier League rivals in the transfer market.

Over the last couple of months, Tottenham Hotspur’s academy has caught the eye, allowing multiple youngsters to make an impact on the club’s first team.

Mikey Moore is undoubtedly the biggest beneficiary, starting his first competitive match against Ferencvaros a couple of weeks ago, after a handful of cameos off the bench.

Despite being just 17, he’s given boss Ange Postecoglou a lot to think about regarding his role, potentially forcing himself into the Aussie’s plans after the ongoing international break.

Striker Will Lankshear also made his first senior start during the same outing as Moore, featuring for over an hour, demonstrating the success of the club’s academy in recent times.

However, the club have also recruited well, with one player transforming Spurs in the defensive department, making them a much harder outfit to break down since his arrival.

Micky Van de Ven’s stats for Spurs

Dutch centre-back Micky Van de Ven would’ve been an unknown quantity to many Spurs supporters before his move back in August 2023, but just over a year on, he’s cemented himself as one of the best in his position within the Premier League.

The former Wolfsburg ace has made 36 appearances since his £34.5m transfer, forming a solid partnership with Argentinian, Cristian Romero, at the back for Postecoglou’s side.

Van de Ven isn’t your average centre-back, often seen going on a mazy run or two, as demonstrated against Manchester United where he picked up a loose ball before driving from his own half to the byline before teeing up Brennan Johnson for a tap-in.

The 23-year-old currently holds the record for being the fastest player in Premier League history, clocking a speed of 37.38km/h last season.

Van de Ven has been part of a Spurs backline that has kept three clean sheets already this season, as he looks to boost the club’s chances of returning to Champions League football next campaign.

Should they qualify, he could be partnered by one talent who’s set to move to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium upon the completion of the 2024/25 season.

The man who could be Spurs’ own Gabriel

Every Spurs fan must be sick of the sight of Arsenal centre-back Gabriel, with the Brazilian scoring the winning goal against the Gunners in the North London derby earlier this season.

The 26-year-old has also scored against Manchester City, demonstrating a goalscoring threat despite his main responsibility being defensive work, having chalked up 17 goals in total during his time in English football.

Postecoglou’s side could be about to get their hands on their own version of the defender in the form of youngster Luka Vuskovic, who’s set to arrive in North London ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The 17-year-old agreed a £12m deal with Spurs last summer to join the club when he turns 18, subsequently spending the current season on loan at Belgian outfit Westerlo.

It’s already been a successful move for the “scary” youngster, as dubbed by analyst Ben Mattinson, with the 6 foot 5 defender scoring four times in his first ten appearances in the Belgian Pro League, showcasing that Gabriel-like threat in the attacking penalty area.

The Croatian is already a regular member of his nation’s under-21 side, with his defensive qualities just as impressive as his offensive numbers during his temporary loan spell in Europe.

Vuskovic has already won 47 duels this season, whilst also boasting an 83% aerial success rate, providing that aerial dominance that Postecoglou’s side have been craving at the back.

Given his tender age, he will need time to settle into life in England, but all the early signs are positive for the youngster, with the hope being that he can form a long-term partnership with left-footer, Van de Ven, in the near future.

He has the potential to develop into one of the very best centre-halves in the league, potentially having a huge impact on both boxes for Spurs over the years to come.

Real Madrid could now make "strong offer" to sign £35m Tottenham star

European champions Real Madrid could now send a "strong offer" to Tottenham, as they eye up a move for one of Ange Postecoglou's players in 2025.

Spurs transfer plans for next year as Lange looks to strengthen

Technical director Johan Lange is tasked with leading Spurs' transfer plans for next year, with the Dane looking to strengthen Postecoglou's ranks further, as it is clear there is still plenty of work to be done on the squad.

Postecoglou, speaking to the media earlier this year, suggested it would take multiple windows before Spurs would become genuine Premier League title challengers - with the Australian hinting to chairman Daniel Levy that the north Londoners need to keep spending.

"We've got a lot of work to do still on the squad and I don't think we're anywhere near where we want to be," said Postecoglou on Tottenham's squad in March.

"It probably will take a little bit more than three windows to get there, for sure. Just in terms of the robustness, adaptability and compatibility of the squad, I think there's still a fair bit of change we need to do. I certainly don't think we're one or two players away from getting to where I want us to be, nowhere near it. Some of that will be natural evolution.

"Some of it hopefully means we continue to get the improvement we've had this year from some of our players. If that happens over the next 12 months, then we'll be in a great position.

"But you've got to remember, a lot of our group are in their first year of the Premier League. A good chunk of them have been ever-presents, we need them to keep improving at the rate they are. We've still got a lot of work to do with the squad. I think we're a long way away from having one or two players away from getting where we want to be."

Since that statement, Tottenham have been linked with a move for Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa, and have finally replaced Harry Kane with the £65 million signing of Dominic Solanke among other noteworthy incomings.

Spurs are also scouting Borussia Dortmund forward Jamie Gittens, but elite sides are also in the background eyeing up their own moves for some of Postecoglou's most crucial stars.

Real Madrid could make "strong offer" for Micky van de Ven

Real Madrid have been monitoring defender Cristian Romero as they scour the market for world-class centre-back options, but he isn't the only Lilywhites ace on their radar.

Indeed, another quality member of Postecoglou's backline is attracting their interest in Netherlands international Micky van de Ven.

Spanish media reports that Real could make a "strong offer" for Van de Ven and are real admirers of the pacey centre-half, who has been imperative for the north Londoners since arriving for an initial £35 million from Wolfsburg last year.

It's believed a "significant" bid for the 23-year-old is on the cards from Galacticos president Florentino Perez - and a player who pundit Rio Ferdinand has previously hailed as the "real deal".

"Romero and Micky van de Ven are arguably the best pairing at the moment in central defence in the Premier League on form. They’ve been immense," said Ferdinand last year.

"This Micky van de Ven, bro, he is the real deal. He’s the real deal. I saw his debut the other day for Holland. I’ve seen him right up close twice this season. And he looks supremely comfortable for a young centre-back that’s come into a new league. So watch this space for this kid."

8 duels won: Spurs star was as good as Johnson in new role for his country

Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action next weekend when they face West Ham United in the early kick-off, but not before a week of international fixtures.

Boss Ange Postecoglou will be hopeful that all the players who are currently representing their nation return after the break without any setbacks to give Spurs the best possible chance of returning to winning ways.

The previous outing saw a 3-2 defeat on the South Coast against Brighton despite leading 2-0 at the break after goals from Brennan Johnson and James Maddison.

Undoubtedly, Postecoglou and the supporters could’ve done without the break, giving them an immediate opportunity to right the wrongs of the defeat, but for now, they will still be ruing the second-half collapse at the AMEX.

Whilst it’s frustrating, the last week has allowed one first-team member to continue his excellent form in front of goal - extending his current run, which is the best spell he’s had to date.

Brennan Johnson’s stats against Iceland

After a run of netting in six consecutive games at club level, Johnson started the Nations League meeting with Iceland last night as a man full of confidence and rightly so.

He featured alongside fellow Spurs man Ben Davies, as Craig Bellamy’s side squandered a two-goal lead to draw the game 2-2.

However, the 23-year-old winger made it seven games in a row that he’s found the back of the net for club and country - before being replaced at the break by Wes Burns.

Johnson completed 81% of the passes he attempted, whilst also creating two opportunities for his international teammates in Reykjavík.

He also made five touches in the opposition penalty area, putting himself in some dangerous positions and looking a threat throughout the first 45 minutes of the encounter.

However, despite his stellar display for Wales, one other Spurs player starred for his country, featuring in a position very few people could have anticipated.

The Spurs man who starred for his country in new role

Postecoglou hasn’t been shy about operating with various different players in the centre of his midfield, with Dejan Kulusevski swapping the right-hand side for a more central role in recent weeks.

His switch in position has seen limited game time for Yves Bissouma, with the Malian often having to settle for minutes off the substitutes bench in the last couple of outings.

However, the 28-year-old was given an opportunity to start for his nation yesterday, albeit in a slightly unnatural position - but one that he excelled in.

He started as a striker for Mali in their 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau, featuring for 89 minutes and grabbing the assist for the goal which proved to be the winner.

However, Bissouma also produced various other impressive stats, looking comfortable in his unnatural role at the top end of the pitch for his nation.

The Spurs ace won eight duels, the most of any player in the match, whilst completing nine passes into the final third - as he often dropped off the backline to hand himself more opportunities in possession.

He also completed three dribbles, once again the most of any player, but did give the ball away 22 times in the victory, which allowed him to make seven recoveries as he tried to regain possession.

It’s highly unlikely that Ange will deploy Bissouma in a similar role upon the club’s return to action next weekend, but it’s good to see a first-team member star in a variety of positions.

He could provide strength in depth that Spurs have often been lacking, handing them an alternative option in their hunt for Champions League football this season.

Tottenham now targeting ex-Man City gem who's "almost impossible to defend"

Tottenham Hotspur chiefs are now targeting an ex-Manchester City gem who's been praised for his attacking excellence in the penalty area, with manager Ange Postecoglou and co attempting to bolster their squad further.

Postecoglou makes promise to win trophy at Tottenham

Spurs' humbling 3-2 defeat away to Brighton - where they squandered a two-goal lead and showcased some questionable defending - highlights that there is still a lot of work for Postecoglou to do in N17.

Postecoglou stated in the summer that he usually wins trophies during his second season in charge, appearing to make a promise to supporters that the north Londoners will end their 17-year wait for a piece of silverware this season.

"Usually in my second season I win things," said Postecoglou on Tottenham challenging for trophies.

"That's the whole idea. First year is about establishing principles and creating a foundation. Hopefully, the second year is going on to win things. Of course, it's easier said than done, particularly in the Premier League and the competition we're in. That's always the way I've looked at it, is that the second year you should be in a position where you can push on, depending on how the first year has gone.

"Last year we had some really good moments, obviously we had some tough moments. I think we learnt as much from the tough moments as we did from the good stuff and hopefully that means we're in a good place. We're definitely a better-prepared team than we were last year."

If Postecoglou wants to fulfil his pledge, Spurs may have to strengthen in key areas this coming January. Before Brighton, the Lilywhites were on a winning run of five straight games, so there is clearly potential there.

However, they could need one or two more star options in key areas. Reports claim Tottenham are eyeing up Viktoria Plzen midfielder Pavel Sulc, and it is believed Spurs are also interested in Espanyol forward Javi Puado ahead of January.

Tottenham now targeting ex-Man City gem Jamie Gittens

According to German newspaper Bild (via Sport Witness), Tottenham are targeting Borussia Dortmund sensation Jamie Gittens and have sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old ply his trade in the Bundesliga.

The former Man City gem, who left their academy a few years ago, is playing fairly regularly for Dortmund and scored in their opening league game of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Chelsea and Liverpool are also courting the forward, who Transfermarkt now values at around £29 million, perhaps highlighting his serious potential. As well as this, former Dortmund captain and current sporting director Sebastian Kehl has claimed that Gittens is "almost impossible to defend against".

"The reaction from Jamie is that of a champion," said Kehl.

"We expect that the lads that come on change the game. When he is in the penalty area, he's almost impossible to defend against."

Spurs wasted £14m on Conte signing who earned 2x more than Solanke does

After Tottenham Hotspur’s move to their new stadium back in April 2019, there was a real expectation from the hierarchy and supporters to reach the next level.

However, five years on, the club are still yet to win a trophy, and still yet to cement themselves as a consistent top-four finisher in the Premier League.

Last season, Ange Postecoglou’s side narrowly missed out on a Champions League place, having to settle for a Europa League spot with the Aussie desperately wanting to go one better this season.

However, after their recent 3-2 defeat to Brighton, work still needs to be done over the ongoing international break to give Spurs the best possible chance of making that progression during 2024/25.

Whilst the start of the new season hasn’t been as many would’ve hoped for, one of the club’s new additions has already made a positive start to life in North London, looking to be worth the huge investment.

Dominic Solanke’s stats at Tottenham Hotspur

After the loss of striker Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer, Spurs have been crying out for that central striker who can supercharge their Champions League hopes.

Owner Daniel Levy decided to splash the cash this summer, forking out £65m on Englishman Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth - a deal that broke the club’s transfer record.

The 27-year-old has wasted no time in making an immediate impact at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, registering three goals and two assists in his first eight outings in all competitions.

It appears as though he’s formed an excellent partnership with the in-form Brennan Johnson, teeing the Welshman up for his sixth consecutive goal against the Seagulls last weekend.

His subsequent form in North London has seen Solanke receive his first England call-up in seven years, with the forward hoping he can start from the off when Lee Carsley’s side face Finland on Sunday night.

However, despite his big-money transfer and recent impressive form, he still earns less than one player who failed to make a huge impact after his move to the club a couple of years ago.

The man who earned more than Solanke at Spurs

During the summer of 2022, former Spurs boss Antonio Conte aimed to strengthen his squad in an attempt to push the club further up the Premier League table.

One of the players the Italian decided to bring in was experienced wideman Ivan Perišić on a free transfer after his release from Inter Milan at the end of the 2021/22 season.

His versatility made him a great option as either an attacking midfielder, winger or even as a wing-back if the club utilised a five-back system.

However, ultimately the move was a failure, with the Croatian international making 50 appearances during his 18 months in the first-team in the capital.

For the last six months of his two-year contract, Perisic joined Hajduk Split on loan in his homeland before leaving Postecoglou’s side on a free transfer at the end of his deal.

The 35-year-old earned £180k-per-week during his time at Spurs, as per Capology, a figure two times higher than record-signing Solanke who only earns £90k-per-week.

When combining his total earnings during his time at the club, Perisic pocketed a total of £14.3m in wages alone - an extortionate amount given his lack of impact at N17.

There’s no denying at the time he seemed like a solid piece of business given his experience in Europe’s top five leagues, but unfortunately for both parties, the deal failed to take off, like Conte and co anticipated.

His huge earnings will undoubtedly be a stark reminder for the club to spend the money wisely to prevent a similar scenario from reoccurring later down the line.

Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment of youth talents over the last couple of years has been exemplary, with the club shifting their focus to signing players who have the potential to be special in North London over the coming years.

Lucas Bergvall is just one example of the club’s recent transfer activity, signing from Djurgarden this summer, with the 18-year-old already featuring eight times this season for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The Swedish youngster has already proved that he’s more than capable of being a regular first-team squad member, aiding his development and allowing him to reach the potential he possesses.

Spurs also agreed a deal for centre-back Luka Vuskovic last summer, with the club forking out £12m for his services despite being just 16.

He’s already scored four times on loan for Belgian side Westerlo this season, appearing to be a real threat in both boxes despite now being just 18 years of age.

However, the club also currently employ a superb youngster who’s made a huge impact on Postecoglou’s first team squad over the last couple of weeks.

Brennan Johnson’s stats in 2024/25

Welsh winger Brennan Johnson moved to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium last summer for a huge £47.5m from fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

However, at times, it’s not been as successful as the 23-year-old would’ve envisioned, often being benched and often coming under fire for his below-par displays - as demonstrated in recent weeks.

The attacker was subject to abuse on social media, so much so that Johnson was forced to deactivate his Instagram account just to prevent any further backlash.

Undoubtedly, a select group of the fanbase took their frustration too far, but ever since the incident, the Welshman has found the form of his career - scoring in six consecutive matches for the very first time.

As a result, he’s now a key part of Postecoglou’s side - a stark contrast compared to just a couple of weeks ago.

The injury to Heung-min Son has seen a lack of goals, with the 23-year-old stepping up and taking responsibility at the top end of the pitch alongside club-record signing Dominic Solanke.

However, he could be aided in his attempts in attacking areas by the potential signing of one player who’s appeared on the club’s radar in recent days.

Spurs interested in landing talented sensation

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, Spurs are battling Aston Villa over the signature of 23-year-old attacking midfielder Pavel Sulc.

The Czech Republic ace, who currently plies his trade for Viktoria Plzen, has enjoyed an excellent 12 months, registering 28 goals since the start of last season, along with nine assists - potentially providing an added attacking threat to Postecoglou’s side.

Sulc, who’s previously been dubbed as “incredible” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, could be allowed to leave the Czech side if the right price tag is met, according to boss Miroslav Koubek, but at this point, it’s unclear what the fee could be.

The attacking midfielder’s talents could play perfectly into the hands of current Spurs ace Johnson, with his assist tally undoubtedly handing the 23-year-old an increase in opportunities within the final third.

Sulc could also be the club's next Christian Eriksen, with Kulig claiming that the Plzen star is a similar player to the former Spurs fan-favourite, with his creativity and eye for a forward pass often catching the eye.

When delving into the 23-year-old's stats from last season, the comparison is understandable, with Sulc averaging a tally of 0.6 progressive carries into the opposition penalty area per 90 last season, compared to Eriksen's tally of 0.3 per 90 in the 2017/18 season - a campaign that saw the Dane register 26 goal contributions in all competitions.

Postecoglou’s side may face stiff competition for his signature in the months ahead, but Sulc’s talents would massively improve the club’s forward line, particularly if he can replicate the impact of a figure like Eriksen, who chalked up 69 goals and 88 assists in 305 games during a stellar stint in north London.

Sulc's own goalscoring and creative quality is evident given the numbers produced over the last year, with Spurs needing to act quickly if they’re to continue their current of investing in youth prospects.

Tottenham may sign £50m star in January after rejected summer swap deal bid

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a move for one £50 million Premier League player, and they could sign him in January after having a player-plus-cash bid rejected for him in the summer window.

Spurs targeting new forward and midfielder for Postecoglou

Chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Johan Lange opted to bring back Timo Werner on a season-long loan extension before deadline day on August 30, as well as sealing deals for midfielder Archie Gray, striker Dominic Solanke and winger Wilson Odobert for the senior team.

South Korean wonderkid Min-hyeok Yang is also preparing to join Tottenham in January after the club struck a buy-to-loan-back agreement for a teenage sensation tipped to bring real excitement to N17.

“At just 18, Yang brings incredible speed to the attack, running with youthful vigour," said football analyst Joel Kim to The Boot Room (via TEAMtalk).

"His surprising physical strength allows him to dominate veteran defenders in the K-League 1, Asia’s most physical league. His greatest asset might be his adaptability; like Son Heung-min, Yang is two-footed and can play on either the left or right wing. Comparisons to Anthony Gordon and Federico Chiesa highlight his potential."

However, despite their new additions totalling £125 million (including Lucas Bergvall), it remains the case that Levy and manager Ange Postecoglou wish to reinforce Tottenham's ranks further - and potentially in the winter.

Reports this week suggest Spurs are eyeing a move for Espanyol forward Javi Puado, as they target alternative options to Son Heung-min amid uncertainties surrounding the 32-year-old's contract situation.

Meanwhile, Viktoria Plzen midfielder Pavel Sulc is making waves in Europe and is fresh off the back of a 22-goal season last campaign. His stellar form is turning heads at elite sides across the continent, with Man City, Aston Villa, Napoli, Atalanta, Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen all monitoring the Czech Republic international.

Tottenham are also targeting Sulc as they attempt to add creativity and dynamism to Postecoglou's midfield, but he isn't the only midfielder on their radar, as the Lilywhites still hold a firm interest in Aston Villa starlet Jacob Ramsey.

Tottenham could sign Jacob Ramsey in January after rejected summer bid

As widely reported by reliable news outlets like The Times, Spurs had a £20 million player-plus-cash bid rejected for Ramsey in the summer.

Levy and Lange attempted to offer Giovani Lo Celso as part of the deal - a player who Unai Emery knows well from their time together at Villarreal - but it was no cigar for NSWE and Villa, who turned down their approach.

Now, according to reports out of Spain, Tottenham are eyeing a move for Ramsey again and a potential switch in January could happen. The Englishman's contract expires in 2027, which apparently means that Villa could be open to potential offers.

Emery's side won't be letting him go on the cheap, though, as it is believed they value him at around £50 million.
