Tottenham Hotspur are in a transitional moment under Ange Postecoglou and plenty of movement will be expected this summer to help the Australian continue his project.

Tottenham Hotspur's summer transfer business

On Thursday evening, Wilson Odobert's double proved decisive as Tottenham progressed to the Europa League quarter-final over AZ Alkmaar, ensuring there is still life left in a season that is slowly petering out from a Premier League standpoint.

Ange Postecoglou has had more reason than most managers to cite grievances on the injury front - the Lilywhites have been derailed by absences this season, there is no doubt about that.

Their Jekyll and Hyde nature has also played a part in a strange campaign, but the lure of potential Champions League qualification still being on offer should they emerge victorious in Bilbao could fuel major squad changes in the summer transfer window.

Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane has been offered to Spurs and they are monitoring his situation. Bringing in the out of contract Germany international alongside Mathys Tel would go a long way to appeasing a support desperate to see their side compete for silverware over the coming years.

Furthermore, Koni de Winter has been cited as a potential Tottenham defensive addition from Genoa. Kevin Danso was already added to the fold in January, and Postecoglou looks to be wasting no time in shoring up a leaky backline that has suffered at times due to their high-octane tactical framework.

Excitement over arrivals is one thing. Nevertheless, exits will be needed to clear wage expenditure to dip into the market once the summer transfer window opens.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Tottenham scout Mick Brown has revealed that Yves Bissouma will be sold this summer due to not being in Postecoglou's long-term plans. He also says the Lilywhites are already "working" on signing a new midfielder behind the scenes.

"I don’t think he fits in with what Postecoglou is trying to do and he’s not really going to be part of his plans in the long-term. They’ve got other options he prefers in that position, and I hear they’re going to look to sign somebody too.

“So I think they’ll be open to offers for him when the window opens and I can see him leaving the club. If Bissouma leaves, he’s going to need replacing, and the scouting department are already working on finding that player behind the scenes."

While the identity of who Spurs could pursue remains anyone's guess, Bissouma may be on his way out after making 34 appearances across all competitions this term. Ranking outside Tottenham's top 20 Premier League performers, according to WhoScored, the Mali international is in need of a fresh start following three years in the capital.

Richarlison may also be of interest to Everton, creating room for a sea change within the dressing room this summer under the watch of Postecoglou.

Spurs could have a "bigger talent than Mikey Moore" in Hotspur Way gem

There has not been much to celebrate for Tottenham Hotspur fans this season.

Ange Postecoglou's side have seriously struggled in the Premier League, were demolished by Liverpool in the League Cup and crashed out of the FA Cup against Aston Villa.

The one competition the fans have been able to really enjoy has been the Europa League, and it's no surprise that it's where the club's brilliant youngsters have made the most impact.

The most exciting academy star is undoubtedly Mikey Moore, but that might not be the case next season, as Hotspur Way might have another superstar in the making for Postecoglou.

Mikey Moore's incredible talent

While he might have been something of an unknown quantity to the majority of fans at the start of the season, Moore certainly isn't anymore.

The 17-year-old phenom hasn't played loads of football this term, with Postecoglou opting to ease him in slowly and illness keeping him out of the team for a while, but when he has stepped onto the pitch, he's looked like he belongs there.

For example, despite not scoring or providing an assist in the first Europa League game against AZ Alkmaar back in October, the Southwark-born gem completely stole the show.

In fact, he was so brilliant to watch that James Maddison compared him to Neymar Jr in a post-match interview, which, as comparisons go, is not a bad one.

So far, the teenage dynamo has scored one goal and provided two assists in 16 first-team appearances, totalling just 632 minutes, meaning he's chipped in with a goal involvement on average every 210.66 minutes.

Overall, Moore looks like he will become an incredibly important player for Spurs and Postecoglou over the coming years.

Still, he might have some extra competition out of Hotspur Way for the title of best youngster next season.

The prospect who could be better than Moore

The next young superstar in the making to come out of Hotspur Way looks like it could be the incredibly exciting Luca Williams-Barnett.

The 16-year-old phenomenon hasn't made a first-team appearance yet - although he has featured on the bench - but don't let that fool you; he appears to have what it takes to be a future world-beater.

In fact, he's showing it week in and week out at the youth level, and so far this season, he has racked up a truly unbelievable tally of 19 goals and ten assists in 23 games, totalling 1797 minutes for the U18 team.

That means he's averaging 1.26 goal involvements every game, or one every 61.96 minutes.

On top of that, the unreal talent can play in attacking midfield, on either wing, in left-midfield and he's even played up top as well, leading academy expert and pundit John Wenham to describe him as a "cheat code."

With such an astounding rate of return in the academy, it's easy to understand why one prominent Spurs content creator asked, "is he a bigger talent than Mikey Moore?"

Ultimately, while that might seem a little premature to some, Williams Barnett has taken the Lilywhites junior sides by storm this season, and we would not be in the slightest bit surprised to see him lining up alongside Moore in the first team next year.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is under threat of losing his job at N17 after an underwhelming Premier League campaign, blighted by injuries to key players in his Spurs squad, with a trophy-winning boss now said to be enticed by the prospect of replacing him.

Tottenham identify managerial targets to succeed Ange Postecoglou

The Lilywhites quite simply need to overturn their 1-0 first-leg deficit against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League this evening, with a successful campaign in Europe coming as Postecoglou's only chance to win any silverware this term.

The north Londoners languish 13th in the Premier League table and are out of both domestic cups, but now key players have returned to the fold, supporters and critics alike are expecting Postecoglou to swiftly turn the club's fortunes around.

Spurs' form has taken a slight upward trajectory in the past few weeks. However, this will need to continue, or Tottenham's under-fire head coach will continue to expect calls for his departure before the end of 2024/2025.

Chairman Daniel Levy, according to various reports, has already identified a few key managerial targets if he does decide to hand Postecoglou his P45.

Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi is attracting interest from Spurs, according to rumours from Italy, while it is also believed that Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola's representatives have received contact (GiveMeSport).

Both tacticians come as very interesting potential options, but one who is free and available for hire right now is ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic.

The 42-year-old, who guided Dortmund to the Champions League final last season against Real Madrid, has also won multiple major trophies in Germany with his former club - but he's currently a free agent awaiting his next move.

Terzic was a target for West Ham to replace Julen Lopetegui, before the Hammers eventually landed on Graham Potter, but Spurs are also registering an interest in the German.

Edin Terzic open to joining Tottenham with talks

According to a report by TEAMtalk today, the coach is enticed by the prospect of managing in the Premier League.

It is also believed that Terzic is also open to a conversation with Tottenham over joining them, but he is one of many candidates being considered by the club. Their manager hunt has already begun, as per TT, even if no final decision has been made on Postecoglou's long-term future just yet.

Terzic deploys a 4-3-3 attacking formation, and has averaged an impressive 1.95 points per league game over his managerial career across 128 matches - including 75 victories.

"It's incredible what Edin has achieved," said Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke in 2024.

"Last year we were a whisker away from the Bundesliga title. Now we're going to Wembley, in the Champions League final. What more do you want in two and a half years?

"Edin is someone who works meticulously and extremely hard for the club. As a coach, it's a bit more difficult to get to the final with BVB than with Paris. That's absolutely clear. But he did it. It's a great achievement."

Tottenham make contact with "very versatile" manager to replace Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur have reached out to the representatives of a "very versatile" manager to potentially replace the under-pressure Ange Postecoglou, with Spurs doing their due-diligence on future options if they decide to sack their current head coach.

Tottenham face AZ Alkmaar in Europa League second leg

On the field, Postecoglou's side are gearing up for their highly-anticipated Europa League Last 16 second leg clash against AZ Alkmaar.

Spurs go into the game bearing the task of overcoming a one-goal deficit from their first leg in the Netherlands, trailing 1-0 to AZ after Lucas Bergvall's own goal handed the Eredivisie side a crucial advantage ahead of their trip to north London.

The Europa League comes as Tottenham's only chance to win any major silverware this season and end their 17-year wait for a trophy, but they'll have to get the better of AZ without star winger Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dragusin, Richarlison and January signing Kevin Danso, who picked up a hamstring injury against Bournemouth over the weekend.

"Yeah, Kevin got a hamstring injury in the last game so he is out. Ben [Davies] is back in, so that’s the only change from the weekend. Everyone else got through the game no problems," said Postecoglou on Tottenham team news ahead of AZ.

However, the 59-year-old benefits from having all four of his "leaders" fit and available to play together, which has been rare this season, with Son Heung-min, James Maddison, Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario set to play a key role this evening.

"I think Vic was enormous for us in the first leg and he was big for us on the weekend as well," said Postecoglou.

"You want your big, experienced players to perform in these games, for sure. We have relied a lot on our younger players who have really progressed really well, but I guess a night like tomorrow night, having the likes of Romero, Maddison, Vicario and Sonny out there, they are our four leaders and I don’t think we’ve had them on the park at all this year or very little anyway. Having all four of them, the whole leadership group out there, will definitely be beneficial."

A good run in Europe could even be crucial for Postecoglou to keep his job, with reports suggesting that Tottenham are identifying managerial targets like Inter Milan's Simone Inzaghi.

Another tactician who's been linked with the potentially vacant post at the end of this season is Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola.

The Spaniard has impressed onlookers after guiding his team to within touching distance of a Champions League qualification place, and he's done well to cope with injuries to key players in his Bournemouth squad of late.

The Cherries want to tie him down with a new contract and fend off elite clubs who may be interested, according to GiveMeSport, and Spurs are very much interested in the prospect of appointing Rayo Vallecano's ex-head coach.

According to the outlet, Tottenham have even made contact with Iraola via his agents, expressing their serious interest in the 42-year-old as an alternative to Postecoglou.

Bournemouth, though, will fight tooth and nail to keep hold of their highly-respected manager, as the south coast side plan talks to tie him down with fresh terms at the Vitality Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur have made their first move to sign a Belgium international defender at the top of his game, according to a new report.

Ange prepares for Alkmaar while Spurs chiefs eye summer moves

Ange Postecoglou’s side haven’t had a season to remember so far, with Spurs currently in the bottom half of the Premier League. The only way the season can be deemed somewhat of a success is if they end their long wait for a trophy by lifting the Europa League.

Tottenham have it all to do against AZ Alkmaar, though, as they trail 1-0 after a Lucas Bergvall own-goal in the Netherlands ensured Postecoglou’s side have it all to do in the second leg as they look to book a spot in the quarter-finals.

Bergvall did help Tottenham fight back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth days after his own goal against AZ Alkmaar, though, which resulted in praise from Postecoglou.

"Lucas was great. He has been great but he has played a lot and we've just got to be mindful of that. He's becoming an important part of our team. I thought he made a real big impact when he came on.

"Like I said we were sloppy when we were on the ball in the first half and he’s one who takes a bit more care with it. He's a technician and he carries the ball really well. I thought he and Sonny (Heung-min Son) made a really good impact when they came on."

Away from the pitch, and Spurs chiefs are seemingly preparing for the summer transfer window, with strong rumours to a number of targets.

Tottenham are once again ready to open talks to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, whereas Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen is also on Spurs’ radar amid a £55m release clause in his Cherries contract.

Defensive reinforcements are clearly on Postecoglou and Tottenham’s to-do list, and a new name ah now emerged.

Spurs make approach to sign £25m defender Koni de Winter

According to reports in Italy, relayed by Sport Witness, Tottenham have made contact with Genoa over a potential move for defender Koni de Winter.

Tottenham have ‘asked for information on the 22-year-old, as have top-flight rivals Man Utd and West Ham. Napoli and Roma are also keen on De Winter, who is expected to cost €30m (£25m) as Genoa look to make a profit on the Belgium international.

Tottenham have a history of signing Belgian defenders in Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, so De Winter could be the next to move to north London.

Primarily a centre-back, De Winter would offer plenty of versatility as he’s also capable of turning out as a right-back or as a holding midfielder.

He is at the top of his game with a career-high €12m Transfermarkt valuation, a figure which stood at just €2.2m three years ago.

De Winter came through in Juventus’ academy and made his loan move to Genoa permanent last summer, but by the looks of things, he could be on the move again 12 months on, potentially to England with Spurs.

£83m player in the making: Spurs could strike gold on "mind-blowing" star

It might be one of the most overused words in the modern football lexicon, but Tottenham Hotspur are undoubtedly going through a project under the management of Ange Postecoglou.

That might sound like a bit of nothing phrase, but, in reality, it just means that while things might look bleak at the moment - and they certainly do - fans and pundits might need to wait a few more years to see the club's plan come to fruition.

This will likely mean that players such as Son Heung-min, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison will be moved on and replaced by exciting and hungry youngsters.

The absurd amount of injuries the club have had to deal with this season has already seen some of those up-and-comers be given more game time, and should Daniel Levy and Co be able to get a specific deal over the line in the summer, they'll have another young star in their squad who's already being compared to an incredibly valuable talent on the continent.

Spurs rising stars

Before getting to the player in question, it's worth looking at a few of Spurs' other promising prospects, such as Archie Gray.

The former Lees United gem is still only 18 years old, and while respected football analyst Ben Mattinson described him as a "future £100m" central midfielder, he has been a vital part of the defence this term.

So far, injuries have seen the Durham-born gem make 19 appearances at centre-back, seven at right-back, and five at left-back.

Another new arrival who's made a significant impact on the first team despite still being a teenager is Lucas Bergvall, who joined the club from Swedish side Djurgarden for a fee of around £8.5m - which is starting to look like a bargain.

In recent months, the Swedish midfielder has become an increasingly important player for the manager and has made 36 appearances.

Impressively, 18 of those appearances have been starts, and he has managed to rack up a decent tally of one goal and four assists to boot.

Finally, while he's not had quite the same impact on the first team this season, Mikey Moore looks like he's set to become one of the North Londoners' most dangerous attackers in the near future.

He's made 16 appearances so far, totalling just 632 minutes, in which he's scored a goal, provided two assists and was even compared to Neymar Jr by James Maddison.

Overall, the future looks incredibly bright for Tottenham, and it could be brighter if Levy and Co complete a deal to sign another exciting youngster in the summer, a youngster compared to an £83m star.

Spurs' potential £83m superstar in the making

Now, while all the talents mentioned above are already officially Tottenham players and will be next season - lest they be sold for some reason - the player in question might not be, despite starting for the team last Thursday.

Mathys Tel joined the Lilywhites on a short-term loan last month, but, importantly, there is an option to buy in the deal at £45m, and while his next move is not entirely down to the North Londoners, reports from last month seemed to indicate that he'd be open to staying for the long term.

Now, there might be some fans who remain unconvinced by the 19-year-old attacker, and considering he's not hit the ground running in England, scoring one goal in six games, that would be understandable.

However, during his still relatively limited game time for Bayern Munich last season, he showed just why respected talent scout Jacek Kulig described him as a "mind-blowing talent."

In just 1406 minutes of first-team football, he scored ten goals and provided six assists, which comes out to an astounding average of a goal involvement every 87.87 minutes and also saw him win comparisons to Borussia Dortmund's rising star, Jamie Gittens.

The comparison primarily stemmed from FBref, which compared players in similar positions in the Bundesliga last season, created a list of the ten most comparable players for each one, and concluded that the Englishman was the fifth most similar attacking midfielder or winger to the Frenchman.

The best way to see where this comparison has come from is to look at the underlying metrics in which the pair ranked closely, including, but not limited to, non-penalty expected goals plus assists, shots, live passes, blocks, clearances, shot-creating actions and more, all per 90.

While the comparison to one of the most exciting talents in Germany is already encouraging enough regarding the Sarcelles-born star's development, it's also a good sign for his future value.

For example, it was only last month that the German publication Bild, as relayed by the BBC, reported that Dortmund value their incredible youngster at up to £83m in light of his growing reputation and the interest in him from other sides.

So, if the young Englishman is worth such an astounding amount of money and is so statistically similar to the Bayern loanee, who's to say that he, too, won't be worth as much down the line once he gets even more game time?

Therefore, while he has not hit the ground running at Tottenham, Levy and Co should be doing all they can to bring Tel to N17 this summer, as with the right coaching, he could be an extraordinarily valuable asset on and off the pitch in the future.

Tottenham set to axe "powerful" young player after making tough decision

Tottenham Hotspur have already decided to let a "powerful" young player leave this summer, according to one pundit, who claims to have knowledge on the situation and the Lilywhites' plans for him.

Players who could leave Tottenham this summer

A host of Spurs exits could take place this summer, including for manager Ange Postecoglou, who is facing an uncertain future at N17 amid an underwhelming second season in charge of the club.

There are even reports that Tottenham are ready to change managers and considering Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi, but apart from their head coach, a few players could soon see the Spurs axe swing their way as well.

Sergio Reguilon, Alfie Whiteman and Fraser Forster will depart after their contracts expire on June 30th, while it is believed that Tottenham are prepared to sanction Manor Solomon's exit for pure profit after his excellent loan spell at Leeds United.

Richarlison is attracting serious interest from former club Everton, according to GiveMeSport, with chairman Daniel Levy ready to green-light a cut-price transfer for the Brazilian, following a campaign which has been blighted by injury.

Timo Werner is widely expected to return to parent club RB Leipzig after his temporary stint from RB Leipzig, with the winger failing to convince Spurs chiefs to activate the £8.5 million buy option in his deal.

There is also uncertainty surrounding Bryan Gil's long-term future at Spurs, as Girona have an option to buy the player after his loan, but it is unclear whether the La Liga side will trigger it, look to negotiate a lower fee with the north Londoners or allow him to make an N17 return.

Tottenham are also set to make key decisions with regard to their academy players, and one has already been made on young winger Ekemi Umoren.

Ekemi Umoren set to leave Tottenham in June

According to pundit John Wenham, who has extensive knowledge of the Spurs academy set-up, Tottenham are set to let Umoren leave this summer after electing not to offer the Under-16s ace a scholarship contract.

Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham explained that he is a tall and powerful winger, but the Lilywhites may already have enough youngsters of that mould coming through. However, the club apparently deliberated this for some time, so it was a tough call to make.

“Not many people will have seen him play because he is an Under-16s player,” Wenham said.

“However, it is that time of the season where the club are deciding who is going to be offered a scholarship and who is going to be released. I know they were thinking about this player for quite some time.

“They had offered the first batch of scholarships, and this is someone who they were undecided on. However, they have now made that decision, and by making it now, it gives the player time to go and hopefully secure a scholarship elsewhere ahead of next season.

“He is a winger, tall, powerful but Tottenham obviously feel as though they have enough players with similar characteristics.”

Ange may have found the club's new Vertonghen in future superstar at Spurs

When fans talk about the stars from Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham Hotspur tenure, the same names always tend to pop up.

The first two will almost always be Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, as, individually, they were some of the very best attackers in Europe, and together, it could be argued that they were the best partnership in the Premier League.

Then, moving into midfield, people often point to the incredibly hard-working Mousa Dembélé or the technically brilliant Cristian Eriksen.

However, one player who perhaps does not get the recognition he deserves from the general public is Jan Vertonghen, who, alongside Toby Alderweireld, created an incredibly formidable defence, and now it looks like Ange Postecoglou may have uncovered his own version of the Belgian.

Vertonghen's Spurs career

After spending six years with Ajax - where he started his career - Vertonghen joined Spurs in the summer of 2012 for a fee of around £9.5m.

Under then-manager Andre Villas-Boas, the Belgian made his competitive debut for the club in late August against West Bromwich Albion, making 49 appearances across all competitions that year.

Interestingly, while the incredibly experienced professional is so heavily associated with his defensive partner Alderweireld, who he also played with at Ajax, their partnership did not come about at Spurs until the start of the 15/16 season, following his arrival from the Amsterdam outfit.

However, once the former teammates were reunited in the capital, they helped to get the best out of one another and, in turn, helped to create one of the best defences in the entire league.

For example, the Lilywhites conceded the fewest goals in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 campaigns, just 35 and 26, respectively.

On top of that, the Sint-Niklaas-born titan was also a key figure in the team that reached the Champions League final in 2019, playing in and starting ten games, including the final.

The former Ajax star is undoubtedly a modern great for Tottenham, and now it looks like Postecoglou could have found his own version of the unreal defender.

Spurs' new Vertonghen

One of the most significant reasons for Spurs' dire form this season has been the absurd amount of injuries they have had to contend with.

Moreover, while the attack has seen its fair share of enforced absences, the defence has been most impacted, with one of last season's stars, Micky van de Ven, missing 30 games so far.

The Dutch international, who joined the club from VfL Wolfsburg for around £43m in Postecoglou's first summer, has the potential to be the club's new Vertonghen, and there are a few reasons why.

The first is that, like the former Lilywhites star, the 23-year-old is more than just a centre-back and can play at left-back when needed.

In fact, the Wormer-born star has already played there three times for the North Londoners, and we would not be surprised to see him start there again in the future to make the most of his explosive speed.

The second reason is that while he has battled with injury problems, it's abundantly clear to all who watch him that the former Volendam star is not your ordinary defender.

On top of his aforementioned speed - which saw him set a Premier League record last season - the 6 foot 4 monster has demonstrated countless times that he has a brilliant understanding of where he needs to be on the pitch and when he should make a tackle or block.

That ability to read the game, combined with his incredible physical attributes, is exactly why respected talent scout Jacek Kulig described the ten-capped international as a "complete & dominant" defender.

Lastly, should the club be able to keep hold of Cristian Romero in the summer, Van de Ven may have his own long-term defensive partner to create a supreme defence with.

Ultimately, Vertonghen was an utterly brilliant defender for Spurs, and while he still has some way to go, it looks as if Postecoglou may have his own version of the Belgian in the Flying Dutchman.

Tottenham Hotspur have scheduled transfer talks with an elite club, as chairman Daniel Levy eyes further forward signings alongside their potential option-to-buy deal for Bayern Munich loanee Mathys Tel.

Tottenham preparing for Europa League second leg against AZ Alkmaar

Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou is pinning all of his hopes on the Lilywhites' Europa League campaign to make good on his early-season promise of winning silverware during his second full season in charge.

The Australian watched on as his side fell to a 1-0 defeat in their Last 16 first leg tie against AZ Alkmaar, and with the second leg on Thursday, Postecoglou will be busy plotting how best to set up the Spurs team to overcome this deficit.

Tottenham are 13th in the Premier League table, having lost 14 top flight matches already, and are out of both domestic cup competitions after a very underwhelming campaign blighted by injuries to key players.

To make matters worse for Postecoglou, reliable football.london journalist Alasdair Gold broke overnight news that defender Kevin Danso could be set for a spell on the sidelines after he picked up a muscle injury in Spurs' 2-2 draw with Bournemouth over the weekend.

The Austria international was signed in a last-minute hijack from Wolves to provide much-needed central defensive cover for previously injured first-team duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, with Danso even emerging as a leader behind-the-scenes at Tottenham since then.

His absence will come as a major blow for Postecoglou, especially considering van de Ven and Romero have proved very unreliable when it comes to availability this term.

Tottenham are reportedly planning to reinforce the squad this summer to avoid a repeat of their disastrous 2024/2025 campaign, with Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi a top target for Spurs as they plan to reopen talks.

They also want to bring in more attacking options, and Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman has now become a viable option for them.

Tottenham set to be offered Kingsley Coman in talks with Bayern Munich

According to GiveMeSport, Spurs are set for end-of-season negotiations with Bayern over completing a permanent deal for Tel, and during these sit-down discussions, the possibility of signing Coman will arise.

Indeed, it is believed that Bayern will offer Tottenham the chance to sign Coman during these conversations, as Vincent Kompany's side are eager to offload the Frenchman and find him a new club.

It is unclear what Spurs' stance is on striking a deal for the 28-year-old, who has suffered from his fair share of injury problems throughout an undoubtedly illustrious career, but other reports suggest Bayern have set a price tag at up to £34 million.

Tottenham preparing for AZ Alkmaar after dramatic Bournemouth draw

Ange Postecoglou is under intense pressure to come away from their Europa League second leg tie against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday with nothing but a win, given the competition is their last chance to take anything positive from this regrettable campaign.

Spurs are 13th in the Premier League and out of both domestic cups, so the Lilywhites are pinning all of their hopes on overturning the 1-0 deficit from their first-leg encounter with AZ.

They warmed up for the clash with a dramatic 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, and Spurs were forced to overcome a deficit in that game as well. Goals from Pape Matar Sarr and Son Heung-min earned the north Londoners a point from two goals down, and despite the hectic nature of their latest result, Postecoglou's side can perhaps take some encouragement.

"Chaotic game for sure," said Postecoglou on Tottenham's draw with Bournemouth.

"We added to the chaos and it was a little bit self-inflicted, especially in the first half, just with the ball we were really careless with our passing and that allowed the game to be played on the terms Bournemouth would like with their transition football. So yeah chaotic but at 2-0 down it would have been very easy, particularly with the atmosphere as it was, for the boys to just let the game get away from us, but credit to them, they found a way to get back into the game and we got something out of it."

Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero also got a much-needed run out ahead of Spurs' clash with AZ tomorrow, with the duo previously missing for large periods of the campaign through injury.

Their absences were sorely felt, and it prompted the club to strike a last-gasp loan-to-buy deal for Kevin Danso from RC Lens, who has gone on to impress.

As well as this, Spurs made a high-profile £70 million January bid for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, which was swiftly rejected by the Eagles.

Tottenham planning summer talks to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace

Even though their initial winter offer was turned down, Postecoglou's side haven't given hope of eventually striking a deal for the England international.

According to CaughtOffside, Tottenham are planning to re-open talks for Guehi in the summer, and it is believed the centre-back is ready to demand an exit from Selhurst Park as he enters the final year of his contract.

The £75-80 million defender, as stated in this report, is also attracting interest from Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United - so it will by no means be an easy race for Spurs to win as elite English sides clamour for Guehi's services.
