Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to increase depth in the back line, with the Lilywhites suffering on multiple occasions this season owing to a lack of options at the heart of defence, and the North Londoners have been vying for a move for Bournemouth’s Illia Zabarnyi in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou has been calling for a new central defender for some time, given how thin his roster looks in the position. The Australian head coach had been looking to sign a new CB in the summer window; however, he went into the new campaign without a new face in the position, and that has been affecting Spurs duly this season owing to injuries to first-choice duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Tottenham fortify interest to land Zabarnyi

The Ukrainian defender has taken strides in his game since joining Bournemouth, and Spurs are looking to make a £50m move to secure his signature this January, per Give Me Sport. However, it would not be easy to pry him away from Vitality Stadium given interests from Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal for his signatures.

The Cherries are finely positioned to negotiate, given the 22-year-old still has over four and a half years on his current contract worth £50,000 per week, and for Daniel Levy, investing in a player of the Ukrainian’s calibre shows how he can tick boxes of the new transfer strategy of bringing in young players with high potential to White Hart Lane, and the upcoming January window presents an opportunity for the club to address the shortcomings and be ready to push for meeting the top four objectives at the end of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur have fallen short of expectations in their second season under Ange Postecoglou. Inconsistency has plagued the north London side, with the top four gradually pulling away. Following their weekend defeat, Spurs now sit in 11th place, having lost more games (7) than they’ve won (6) this season. This poor run of form has raised doubts about Postecoglou’s future at the club, with reports suggesting his position could be under scrutiny.

Behind-the-scenes meetings are reportedly taking place in north London as Tottenham look to address their ongoing issues. Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara has hinted that Ange Postecoglou could face the sack if results don’t improve soon. For now, the Australian manager appears to have the club’s backing, with the January transfer window on the horizon.

Ange and Tottenham board engage in pivotal transfer talks ahead of the January window

Postecoglou has reportedly been holding key meetings at Hotspur Way with technical director Johan Lange, as per Sky Sports. These discussions come just weeks before the January transfer window, with Tottenham in clear need of reinforcements.

Despite the club’s struggles this season, Postecoglou remains committed to his philosophy. With 23 Premier League games still to play, a strong January window is necessary in reviving Spurs’ campaign, especially as cup competitions take on greater significance amidst their league struggles.

Tottenham are reportedly open to listening to reasonable offers for Yves Bissouma next summer, according to Alasdair Gold. The Mali midfielder’s future could be part of a bigger rebuild as Spurs look to strengthen their squad following the disappointing run of recent games. With arrivals likely dependent on departures, fans should not be surprised to see some players moved on to make room for fresh faces. Bissouma’s situation could be one of many to watch as Tottenham aim to revive their squad.

As Tottenham prepare for a crucial transfer window, the board’s faith in Ange Postecoglou will be tested. However, the growing frustration from fans means the next few months could be decisive in shaping both the future of the manager and the club’s success.

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to sign a new backup striker at White Hart Lane given the struggles Richarlison has had at N17, and the North Londoners have reportedly identified LOSC Lille’s star striker Jonathan David as a possible target for the upcoming 2025 transfer intervals.

The Lilywhites have been looking at a move for the Canadian ace for some time; in fact, the 24-year-old was among those under consideration when Daniel Levy moved for Dominic Solanke in the summer window. However, Spurs may now compound their interest in bringing David to Hotspur Way.

Tottenham looking at Jonathan David, but can they secure his signatures?

Tottenham have reportedly opened talks for Jonathan David with his representatives for a possible free transfer in the upcoming summer window, per an exclusive from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football.

For the North Londoners, bringing in Jonathan David would be a big upgrade on current backup options at N17. Given Richy’s struggles of late, complemented by the fact that Dominic Solanke is still settling into life at White Hart Lane, Spurs are looking to double up on the quality upfront by bringing in yet another proven goalscorer.

And given his contract situation with the French giants, Tottenham are presented with an opportunity to secure him on a free transfer, and by the looks of it, Daniel Levy is positioning himself in quite an advantageous position to secure his services.

That being said, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United have also expressed interest in landing Jonathan David.

Tottenham bracing for January enquiries for Djed Spence

Djed Spence has never had opportunities to showcase his talent at Tottenham

Djed Spence has had a frustrating time at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lilywhites signed the former England youth international from Middlesbrough in a £20 million deal in 2022. They beat a host of clubs for the full-back’s signature, with Djed Spence then regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the Championship circuit.

However, his career at Tottenham hasn’t just taken off ever since former boss Antonio Conte decided that he did not want him in his side. The 24-year-old spent the last 18 months out on loan at clubs such as Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa before returning to Tottenham in the summer.

-> Tottenham star considering Barcelona switch; ready for massive career finale

While Ange Postecoglou has been willing to give Djed Spence his first-team opportunities at Tottenham this season, the right-back hasn’t quite got the game time he’d have hoped for. He has made only five appearances across all competitions, clocking 109 minutes in the process.

Now, according to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Spence is set to be the subject of approaches during the January transfer window as interested parties have been alerted over his bleak situation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Several admirers are planning to determine whether the English talent is in Ange Postecoglou’s immediate plans or if there is a prospect of him leaving Spurs for the second half of the season.

Despite arriving at the club as a prodigious talent, Spence has not been given his fair share of opportunities to make a name for himself. As a result, he had to leave Tottenham on loan for regular game time in the last 18 months. The attacking full-back/wing-back was quite good in his last loan spell at Genoa, where he had made 16 appearances in Serie A.

The aforementioned report adds the North London outfit are waiting until January to give the interested parties an inclination on Spence’s short-term future; however, his admirers are positive that he will be allowed to leave on loan.

-> Tottenham urged to replace fan favourite whose sharpness is ‘lacking’

Pedro Porro remains the undisputed first-choice right-back under Postecoglou, and regardless of various injuries to key players in the backline, the Spanish international has been able to retain his spot in the team. With summer signing Archie Gray also able to slot in at right-back when required, Spence’s prospects only look like diminishing further, leaving his White Hart Lane career at a crossroads.

Despite being regularly overlooked by Big Ange, the club surprised almost every Spurs fan by giving Spence a contract extension in October. This saw the defender extend his stay at N17 until the summer of 2028 (Transfermarkt). This leaves the North Londoners in a strong negotiation position ahead of embracing potential offers for the player next month.

Tottenham make fresh Jonathan David offer, but there’s a catch

Tottenham’s interest in Jonathan David, one of their long-time targets, is reigniting with the January transfer window around the corner.

And it looks like the Lilywhites are willing to make an offer, but it’s not without a catch.

Tottenham make fresh Jonathan David offer, but there’s a catch

As reported by Sport Witness, Tottenham are ready to make an offer for Lille forward Jonathan David in January, but they won’t wait for long for a response.

Barcelona are also looking at the Canada international as a long-term replacement for the ageing Robert Lewandowski, especially with the 24-year-old available for free next summer.

However, the Blaugrana have doubts over David’s tactical compatibility with their setup, which has slowed down their pursuit enough for Spurs to make a move for him.

In his fifth season for Lille, David remains a lethal operator up front in Ligue 1 and has 17 goals and three assists this season in 23 appearances across all competitions.

The €45m-valued man‘s €37,500-per-week contract runs out at the end of the season, allowing clubs to speak to him when January rolls around.

A fair stance

Tottenham are in a position to play hardball with David next month. While Dominic Solanke has established himself up front, the club could always use another able operator in his position, but they are not desperate in the centre-forward department.

That could change of course, with both Son Heung-min and Richarlison linked with exits, but at least for now Tottenham are in a position to hand the Canadian an ultimatum and see how things pan out while looking to strengthen the wide areas in the meantime.

Tottenham expected to attempt Cunha transfer in the winter transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to make offensive additions next year as doubts persist over Richarlison, Son Heung-min and Timo Werner. The Brazilian international and the captain have struggled with fitness for much of the ongoing season, whereas Werner’s loan from RB Leipzig is unlikely to translate into a permanent transfer at the end of the campaign in spite of his decent form of late.

Ange Postecoglou’s side has been incredibly inefficient in the offensive department as well, which hints at the team requiring a more dynamic option or two. And while more business could occur in the summer after the end of 2024/25, Spurs have not ruled out making a signing in January itself in order to bolster their chances of winning silverware come the conclusion of the season.

With that being said, they are planning on holding talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers regarding the possible purchase of Matheus Cunha, according to TBR Football. Tottenham have been impressed with the Brazilian forward this season, thanks to his seven goals and three assists so far and believe he could be a differential addition to their roster for the second part of the campaign.

Wolverhampton Wanderers value Cunha at £60 million, a fee that Spurs would need to pay for almost any quality player. The South American joined the East Midlanders in a £44 million deal from Atletico Madrid in 2023 and has earned a name for himself in the Premier League, thereby prompting interest from the English top flight’s bigger sides since the last few weeks.

It remains to be seen if Wolves will be ready to let go of the versatile attacker midway through the season given how crucial he has been for them and also keeping in mind that Gary O’Neill is battling relegation. Nevertheless, Spurs can be expected to keep an eye on how the situation develops and possibly test the waters at least in the winter even if a move were to not materialise.

Tottenham boss drops injury update on Brennan Johnson

Tottenham star Brennan Johnson was forced off in the 53rd minute vs Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur hosted Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday in what promised to be a gripping encounter between two rivals in contrasting form.

Spurs managed just one win from their last four games, while the Blues arrived on a high having won their previous four matches across all competitions. The stakes were high, with the Lilywhites desperate to get back into the top half of the table and the West Londoners aiming to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool.

Tottenham began brightly, stunning the opposition with two quick goals and leaving the fans in an ecstatic mood. However, the game quickly unravelled for Tottenham when Cristian Romero, who surprised almost everybody with his inclusion in the starting XI, limped off after 15 minutes. Chelsea took advantage quickly after Romero’s departure and made it 2-1 via Jadon Sancho.

Things got from bad to worse when Brennan Johnson was withdrawn in the 53rd minute, moments after he seemed to pick up a knock. Despite their early promise, the North Londoners endured a forgettable evening as they eventually lost 4-3 and saw their injury list grow.

During the post-match presser, Postecoglou was asked to provide an update on Brennan Johnson. The boss stated (h/t Football London):

Tottenham have been extremely unfortunate with injuries this season. Their inability to avoid injuries has become a recurring theme, with both defence and attack hit hard. Johnson not picking up an injury is a relief but his departure early in the second half against Chelsea was a big blow for Postecoglou’s side.

-> Carragher slams VAR for ‘unbelievable’ blunder in Chelsea’s 4-3 triumph over Tottenham

The Welshman has been one of the rare bright sparks in an otherwise torrid campaign for Spurs. He is the club’s top with 10 goals in all competitions, becoming a key player for Big Ange this term. The 23-year-old helped the team enjoy a bright start on Sunday, delivering with a fine cross for Dominic Solanke’s goal.

It was a real shame Johnson wasn’t 100 per cent and couldn’t continue in the second half. His directness, pressing and energy could have come in handy when we were chasing the game. Spurs fans can only hope Johnson recovers from his illness quickly and make himself available for the trip to Rangers in the Europe League on Thursday.

Tottenham boss drops worrying injury update on Cristian Romero

Tottenham star Cristian Romero suffered a fresh injury setback vs Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero was a surprise starter against Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Barely anyone expected the 2022 World Cup winner to be fit for Sunday’s London derby – nor his fellow centre-back partner Micky van de Ven – although both were in the starting XI for the visit of Chelsea. Ange Postecoglou had stated the 26-year-old was yet to join training in his pre-match press conference, so Spurs fans would have been astonished watching his inclusion in the first XI,

Unfortunately, Cristian Romero lasted only 15 minutes before pulling up and signalling to the bench. He was replaced by Radu Dragusin, and the quickly unravelled for Tottenham after the Argentinean was forced off. Chelsea took advantage of Romero’s departure almost immediately, halving the deficit to 2-1 through Jadon Sancho.

-> Postecoglou rallies Tottenham troops, calls ‘to overcome’ challenges after Chelsea collapse

Ange Postecoglou was asked for an injury update on his defensive lynchpin’s during the post-match press conference. The Spurs boss stated. (h/t BBC Sport)

Spurs’ season has been ravaged by injury problems to key performers. Entering Sunday’s encounter with Chelsea, Postecoglou had only one fully fit centre-back Radu Dragusin available.

Romero had been out injured since November’s international break until he returned on Sunday before sustaining a different problem than the previous one. Having suffered a toe problem earlier, the Argentinean international went off with what Big Ange confirmed was a quad issue.

-> “No alternative”- Ange Postecoglou will not let heads drop as Tottenham prepare for ‘big’ run of games

The Cordoba-born talent hasn’t had the greatest of seasons in a Tottenham shirt and has come under a fair bit of criticism for some of the mistakes he has made this term. His decision-making on and off the ball has been bad, which has been exploited by the opposition.

Whether he was fully fit or not, the idea of starting both Romero and Micky van de Ven against Enzo Maresca’s side backfired. This potentially leaves Tottenham without their first-choice defenders in the coming games.

BBC Pundit backs Tottenham to sign Robinson

Tottenham Hotspur have been left thin on options in the left-back role given how Daniel Levy is yet to bring in a backup to Destiny Udogie, whom the North Londoners have grown quite reliant on of late; however, the Lilywhites are backed to sign Fulham defender Antonee Robinson.

Spurs suffered a lot when the Italian was injured in the twilight of the previous campaign, and many expected that Tottenham would sign a new left back in the summer; however, the club chose to go ahead with Ben Davies as the backup in the role for the season with the centre back duo of Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin filling in when needed.

Should Tottenham sign Antonee Robinson?

The North Londoners could be finally getting a new left back, not a backup but a starting quality. BBC pundit Andy Reid has backed either Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester United to sign the 27-year-old fullback. Former Spurs player backed his former employers to sign the player while watching him in action earlier today when Fulham hosted Arsenal at Craven Cottage.

Speaking about Robinson on BBC Radio 5 Live Online, Reid said:

“The Fulham fans won’t thank me for this, but Antonee Robinson could play at one of the bigger clubs in the league. He could be a big asset for Tottenham or Man United.”

Tottenham target Cunha rejects new contract for current employers

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in a new striker going into the 2025 transfer intervals as they look to bring in a new backup forward following the struggles that Richarlison has been having with form and injuries as they look at Wolves striker Matheus Cunha for a possible move.

The Brazilian has struggled to find his feet at Hotspur Way since his coveted move from Everton, and the chiefs at North London have started growing frustrated with the 27-year-old as they look to lay curtains to his time at White Hart Lane. Now with Richy on his way out, the Lilywhites have to look outwards to find a backup to Dominic Solanke, and they are looking at another Brazilian ace to take up the former Watford star’s space in Ange Postecoglou’s dressing room.

Cunha takes contract stand at Wolves

Matheus Cunha has been impressing with his overall play at Molineux Stadium, and his performances have attracted interest from multiple Premier League sides, including Arsenal, Tottenham, and Manchester United.

And amid links with a move for the striker, his latest stand on not signing a new contract with his current employers, per Football Insider, will come as a big boost to Daniel Levy, as for Tottenham, any potential arrival of Cunha could offer the versatility and goal-scoring ability in the offensive spaces, something that Postecoglou’s roster has been lacking upfront.

Beyond the highly substantial odds for it to happen, though if Cunha does indeed make the move to White Hart Lane, it will signal a step in the right direction at N17, and the club will then boast possibly the best striking duo in the English top tier.
