Tottenham Hotspur will make their long-awaited return to the UEFA Champions League tonight when they take on Villarreal, but the game will not be shown on TNT Sports

The 2025/26 UEFA Champions League season gets underway tonight with Tottenham Hotspur squaring off against Villarreal.

The Spanish side will be guests at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first round of matches in the competition's League Phase.

This evening marks Spurs' return to the Champions League, their first since 2023, following their Europa League victory last season which secured them automatic qualification.

It's also a European debut for Thomas Frank, the former Brentford manager, who takes charge of his first game in Europe's premier competition tonight.

The Danish boss has had a promising start at Spurs, with his team currently third in the Premier League standings. They claimed a resounding 3-0 win over West Ham in their derby match on Saturday, adding to their earlier triumph over Man City in August.

On the other hand, Villarreal have had a somewhat inconsistent start to their La Liga season, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in their latest outing. Despite only two victories from four games, the Spanish outfit sits sixth in their domestic league.

In anticipation of tonight's match, Frank spoke to Sky Sports about his impending Champions League debut, stating: "I am hugely looking forward to it, I know it will be special when we have that Champions League anthem playing, that will be the moment.

"Really looking forward to the first two minutes, the anthem, and then it's focus on the game,"reports the Mirror.

Unlike the majority of Champions League matches, tonight's game won't be aired on TNT Sports, but there is a method to watch the match entirely free of charge.

The match between Tottenham and Villarreal is set to commence at 8pm, with Gabby Logan spearheading the coverage from 6.30pm alongside Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Carrick. Jon Champion and Alan Shearer will provide the commentary.

The Apprentice host branded the former Liverpool and England ace a “double barrel idiot” for comments he made on Sky Sports about outgoing Spurs chairman Daniel Levy inheriting a "complete mess"

Fuming Alan Sugar is threatening to sue Jamie Redknapp after he took a swipe at his ownership of Spurs.

The Apprentice host branded the former Liverpool and England ace a “double barrel idiot” for comments he made on Sky Sports.

Football pundit Redknapp, 52, was speaking about the surprise exit of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy last week and praised him for making the club a financial success.

He compared the condition of the London club when Levy left to how it was left by Lord Sugar, following his stint as chairman and part-owner between 1991 and 2001, and claimed he had inherited a “complete mess”.

Business guru Lord Sugar, 78, has hit back on social media by threatening legal action against Redknapp and his employer.

He fumed: “Jamie Redknapp is a double barrel idiot. He talks a load of rubbish.

“He said when Daniel Levy took over Spurs Alan Sugar left the club in a right mess.

“He and SKY will be hearing from my lawyers Monday.”

Redknapp, who also played for Spurs, had been working as a pundit for Sky during coverage of his former side’s 3-0 win at West Ham.

Ahead of the London derby, he said Spurs fans should be positive about the future despite Levy’s exit.

He said: “I think from Spurs’ point of view, it’s a great time to be optimistic.

“Whoever takes over - you think back to how Alan Sugar left the club, it was a complete mess.

“Daniel Levy has left this club in a really good way... and the people in charge now can look at this club and really believe that this can go forward.”

Lord Sugar followed his post up with another message, which read: “I am coming after you Jamie Redknapp idiot.”

Tottenham issue takeover stance in update on Amanda Staveley's plan to buy Spurs - Daily Star
Description

Tottenham have issued a staunch statement saying the club "is not for sale".

On Monday morning, PCP International Finance, the investment vehicle led by former Newcastle shareholder Amanda Staveley, confirmed it had been interested in a potential move to buy the club.

However, it confirmed that “it does not intend to make an offer for Tottenham”, with owners Enic and the Lewis family insisting the club is not for sale.

Takeover rules mean the company cannot return with an offer for the Premier League club in the next six months.

A Tottenham statement said: “The Board of Tottenham Hotspur Limited (’Tottenham Hotspur’, the ‘Club’ or the ‘Company’) is aware of recent media speculation and confirms that its majority shareholder, Enic Sports & Developments Holdings Ltd, has received, and unequivocally rejected, separate preliminary expressions of interest in relation to proposals to acquire the entire issued, and to be issued, share capital of ENIC from (i) PCP International Finance Limited; and (ii) a consortium of investors led by Dr Roger Kennedy and Wing-Fai Ng through Firehawk Holdings Limited (the ‘Consortium’).

“As a consequence of Enic’s majority ownership interest in Tottenham Hotspur, were any offer made to acquire Enic and complete, a mandatory offer would be required under Rule 9 of the Code to acquire the shares of Tottenham Hotspur not already held by Enic.

“The Board of the Club and Enic confirm that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale and Enic has no intention to accept any such offer to acquire its interest in the Club.

“The person responsible for arranging the release of this announcement on behalf of Tottenham Hotspur is Peter Charrington (non-executive chairman).”

Approaches to buy the club were made in the wake of chairman Daniel Levy stepping down from his role after 25 years in the position.

Levy's departure now means that the Lewis family trust is in charge of running the club, along with non-executive chairman Peter Charrington and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham.

Staveley sold her stake in Newcastle in July 2024, and appears ready to return to football club ownership.

However, both Staveley, operating through PCP International Finance Ltd, and the Asian consortium, led by Dr Roger Kennedy and Wing-Fai Ng, have until 5pm on October 5 to commit to making a bid or announce they do not intend to make an offer. Although that deadline can be extended.

Amanda Staveley to clarify Tottenham's Premier League future after talks

Former Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley is expected to release a statement on Monday regarding Tottenham Hotspur, with the London club parting ways with Daniel Levy this week

Amanda Staveley, the former co-owner of Newcastle United, is reportedly set to announce that she has no intention of making a formal bid for Tottenham Hotspur.

It's believed that a statement from a company under Staveley's control will be released on Monday regarding the Premier League club.

Spurs recently bid farewell to their long-standing chairman Daniel Levy after nearly 25 years in charge, with CEO Vinai Venkatesham expected to step into the spotlight.

Sky News reports that PCP International Finance, which is controlled by Staveley, will confirm on Monday that it has no plans to bid for the London-based club. The same outlet also suggests that Staveley has been in talks with potential backers for a takeover bid in recent weeks.

Staveley, 52, joined the board of directors at Newcastle in 2021 when the current owners took over. However, she and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi stepped down from the club in 2024.

When the takeover was finalised, Staveley and Ghodoussi had a 10 percent share, which slightly decreased before they left. Their shares were taken over by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) and RB Sports and Media when they departed, reports the Mirror.

In September 2024, Mirror Football exclusively revealed that Staveley and Ghodoussi were contemplating a significant investment in Spurs. Just days earlier, the pair had attended a Premier League match against Brentford as guests of the North London club.

"My preference would have been to stay with Newcastle, but life doesn't always work out exactly how you want it to," Staveley told The Athletic in July 2024. "Nothing is going to replicate that.

"I fell in love with Newcastle, the club and the people and that can't change, but I didn't want to get in Newcastle's way. It's got to be about what's best for Newcastle.

"Mehrdad and I are keen to be hands-on. We're hard-working people, I love to be very busy and to engage and I love football. Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that's difficult. But it's possible."

Despite stepping down as chairman, Levy retains just under 30 percent of his Spurs shares.

The 63 year old reflected on his time at the helm: "I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees,".

"We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level. More than that, we have built a community. I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years."

Tottenham Hotspur are still looking to do business on transfer deadline day with Johan Lange having a number of deals to complete before the 7pm cut-off point

It's been a rollercoaster of a summer window for Tottenham Hotspur, filled with both triumphs and tribulations, as they look to get some major deals done on transfer deadline day.

As we approach the final hours of the window, Spurs have already made Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel's loan deals permanent, welcomed Luka Vuskovic from Hajduk Split, borrowed Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich, and secured Kota Takai, Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons on full-time contracts.

However, the club's technical director Johan Lange still has his work cut out for him before the window shuts at 7pm tonight. While new arrivals are crucial to bolster Thomas Frank's squad, departures are also necessary as part of a team refresh for the 2025/26 season to compete in both the Premier League and Champions League.

So, what last-minute deals could Tottenham be eyeing? Here's their shortlist, reports Football London.

New winger

Spurs are yet to find a replacement for Son Heung-min on the wing, a gap that needs filling before the deadline. Manchester City's Savinho was strongly linked with a move to North London, but it seems he'll be staying put at the Etihad Stadium.

The Manchester Evening News reported last Thursday that City have no plans to sell the Brazilian. Ademola Lookman of Atalanta has been touted as a potential late addition to the Spurs squad, as he seeks to leave the Italian club before tonight's deadline.

Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in the 27 year old, with whispers of a potential loan deal. Spurs will need to outmanoeuvre their German rivals if they're to secure the signature of the ex-Premier League winger.

Randal Kolo Muani has also been linked with a last-minute switch to Tottenham, offering Frank additional options on both wings and up front.

New Centre-Back

Tottenham are also in the market for a new centre-back before the 7pm deadline, although securing a new winger is currently higher on the priority list. Nonetheless, strengthening the centre-back position remains a necessity for Spurs.

Frank is seeking additional cover at centre-back due to the number of matches Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven missed last season. With Radu Dragusin still receiving treatment ahead of his imminent return to training, and Vuskovic's loan move to Hamburg further depleting Tottenham's options, a new centre-back is crucial.

Manchester City's Manuel Akanji has been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent days.

Dane Scarlett

Dane Scarlett is hoping to secure a loan move away from the club in the final hours of the transfer window. The striker was omitted from Tottenham's pre-season tour squad to facilitate a loan deal, but a move hasn't materialised yet.

Regular playing time is essential for him, and the hope is that the academy graduate can secure a move elsewhere before the clock runs out.

Bryan Gil

Bryan Gil's future at Tottenham Hotspur looks uncertain as he has been left without a squad number for the upcoming season. The Spanish player is currently recovering from a knee injury, which could potentially affect any potential transfer, given it's unclear when he'll be fit to return to action.

Given his contract situation, Spurs can ill afford to let this situation drag on.

Yves Bissouma

Yves Bissouma is likely to make headlines on transfer deadline day. The Mali international has slipped down the pecking order in Tottenham's midfield this summer following the arrival of Palhinha, which could lead to a last-minute departure.

Like Gil, Bissouma's current contract runs out next summer, and the club needs to offload him in this transfer window to prevent his value from plummeting. Last week, Tottenham were reportedly in talks with Galatasaray over a loan deal, but for now, Bissouma remains a Spurs player.

Manor Solomon

Manor Solomon made his first appearance in Frank's Tottenham squad last weekend after an injury-plagued summer. The winger provided the head coach with an additional attacking option, but he remained on the bench despite Spurs needing a goal against Bournemouth.

The 26 year old may struggle to secure regular playing time at Tottenham, which could lead to a late exit on Monday. Solomon's position in the squad will only become more precarious if a new winger is brought in.

Tottenham are set to complete the signing of RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons after the Dutchman underwent a medical with the club, beating Chelsea to his signature

Tottenham are on the brink of signing RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons after a last-minute transfer swoop.

The 22-year-old Dutch ace, who seemed Chelsea-bound all summer, has already passed his medical with Spurs. Once the final pieces are sorted, he'll sign a long-term deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, concluding Thomas Frank's hunt for a new No. 10 after missing out on both Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze.

The Europa League champions are set to fork out around £52million (€60m), though insiders at Leipzig suggest the Bundesliga club have also secured a sell-on clause.

Spurs have been operating cautiously, wary that Chelsea might swoop in and seal Simons' signature, as the ex-Paris Saint-Germain and PSV star had already agreed terms with the Blues.

Just a few weeks back, it's believed Tottenham made a discreet enquiry about Simons through his brother and advisor Faustino, only to be told the young star had already given his word to Chelsea.

The tide turned earlier this week when Simons apparently decided he wasn't going to wait for Chelsea. Enzo Maresca's side also started discussions about possibly signing Barcelona's Fermin Lopez, hinting they were weighing up a move for the Spaniard and Alejandro Garnacho.

The Manchester United winger is reportedly in London to finalise his move to Stamford Bridge.

A £40m deal was agreed with United, which includes a 10 per cent sell-on clause, with the Argentine set to sign a seven-year contract.

As of Thursday night, Chelsea were still mulling over whether to make a late move for the Dutch attacking midfielder.

Meanwhile, Spurs haven't completely dismissed the idea of bringing in another striker before Monday's transfer deadline.

Xavi Simons has reportedly been given permission to miss RB Leipzig training as he arrives in London for talks over a move, with Chelsea and Tottenham both interested in the winger

Xavi Simons has arrived in London ahead of a potential Premier League switch, according to German reports - with Tottenham now poised to gazump Chelsea's pursuit.

The 22-year-old winger was granted permission to skip RB Leipzig's Thursday morning training session as he flew into the capital for discussions.

Spurs, who were pipped to Eberechi Eze by rivals Arsenal last week, appear increasingly likely to secure their primary backup target despite Chelsea's previous strong interest.

Leipzig have confirmed that Simons has been "released from training indefinitely for future discussions", though the German club are yet to receive a formal bid, whilst Simons' representatives must still iron out contract specifics.

The Bundesliga outfit will demand around £65million for the Netherlands international, who has two years left on his existing deal, reports the Mirror.

Following Benjamin Sesko's £74million departure to Manchester United, Simons could become Leipzig's second major departure this summer.

Tottenham remain eager to bolster their attacking options due to James Maddison's season-long injury, whilst Dejan Kulusevski also remains on the treatment table.

Should Simons opt for north London over west, Chelsea are reportedly prepared to turn their attention to Barcelona's Fermin Lopez - though their main focus before Monday's deadline remains shifting numerous surplus players. As many as nine players who don't feature in Enzo Maresca's plans could be shown the exit door, including England stars Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell.

The latter has reportedly caught the eye of his former boss Frank Lampard at Coventry.

Chelsea have already raked in nearly £290m from player sales this summer. Notable departures include Noni Madueke moving to Arsenal for a cool £48 million, Joao Felix heading to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr for £26 million, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall making a £25 million switch to Everton.

Christopher Nkunku is also expected to finalise a move to AC Milan any day now.

Arsenal and Tottenham are set to go head-to-head in the transfer market again after the Gunners signed Eberechi Eze from under their north London rivals’ nose

Arsenal and Tottenham are set to go head-to-head to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

The Gunners beat their north London rivals to the signing of Eberechi Eze over the weekend, with Arsenal unveiling their new £67.5million signing just days after Spurs reached an agreement with Crystal Palace for his signature.

And it appears that Arsenal are setting out to steal another signing from under Spurs’ nose with reports that 23-year-old Ecuador international Hincapie has been approach by both club.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier on Monday morning that Tottenham made an approach to the Bundesliga club to sign the centre-back.

A loan deal with an obligation to buy for around £52m was proposed, with the figure the same value as the defender’s release clause. Hincapie reportedly wants to leave the BayArena and Spurs have started discussing personal terms.

However, Arsenal have reportedly swiftly entered the fray with The Athletic since saying that Arsenal are working on a deal to sign the Ecuadorian.

The Gunners’ move is said to be subject to player exits, amid Jakub Kiwior in talks with Porto. Arsenal are reportedly prioritising a move for Hincapie but efforts are ongoing to take the fee below his £52m release clause.

Hincapie joined Leverkusen in 2021 from Argentine club Talleres after impressing at Independiente del Valle in his homeland.

He’s played 166 times for Leverkusen to date, including 26 league appearances in their maiden Bundesliga title win. Hincapie also won the DFB Pokal in 2024 and the German Super Cup.

Capable of playing left-back as comfortably as centre-back, he has made 46 caps for Ecuador.

Glam footballer Gabriella Howell has admitted she's "falling in love" after watching Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday lunchtime.

Spurs stunned a lacklustre Manchester City away from home as they moved to the summit of the Premier League table. Brennan Johnson and Joao Palhinha both found the net, leaving Pep Guardiola ripping up his tactics book.

And Gabriella, who is a massive Tottenham fan, took to social media to share her thoughts on the clash: "I feel I’m going to fall in love with this team like I did with the team under Poch..."

Spurs won the Europa League under Ange Postecoglou last season, but after a poor performance domestically he was shown the door by Daniel Levy.

Thomas Frank was drafted in from Brentford to full the Australian's shoes - and his team have now won their opening two Premier League games in an impressive manner.

Gabriella shared a snap on her Instagram story watching the game in her front room.

The stunning footballer might not have been able to make the trip due to her commitments for Dartford Women. Gabriella turns out at the back for the Darts Women.

And they'll be looking to their star to keep a clean sheet as they Sutton United to Princes Park on Sunday afternoon.

"I like to keep [the hateful comments] on my profiles and I don’t delete them," she explained.

"Young girls think they want to be an influencer but they don’t see the downsides. I like to make people aware. Not everyone’s going to like you.

"I repeat that to myself when I see these comments. You got to develop a thick skin.”

Manchester City were forced to make an early change during the Premier League clash with Tottenham after their signing limped off with an ankle injury

Manchester City have suffered an injury setback with new recruit Rayan Ait-Nouri forced to leave the pitch early during their Premier League match against Tottenham.

The left-back seemed to twist his ankle while blocking a pass 15 minutes into the game, receiving on-pitch treatment as City's medical team evaluated the problem.

Despite initially continuing, City had Nathan Ake warming up and a staff member was seen putting him through his paces.

Ait-Nouri had to make a recovery run when Tottenham attempted to send Mohammed Kudus down his flank, and shortly after, he dropped to his haunches, prompting Ake to be called back.

City instructed Ait-Nouri to go down to allow them to make the substitution, with Ake stepping in at left-back.

The loss of Ait-Nouri is a significant blow so early in his City career following a £31million transfer from Wolves, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The Algerian made a strong impression at the Club World Cup and had a quiet game against his former club Wolves last week. He was City's first major left-back signing in eight years.

Josko Gvardiol and Nico O'Reilly shared responsibilities last season, but Gvardiol is still injured, and O'Reilly has been deployed as a midfielder this season.

City were below par for the opening half, with fellow summer recruit James Trafford's howler gifting Spurs their second goal of the afternoon.

It had been all City until Brennan Johnson swept home, rounding off a Spurs counter attack. Richarlison had been ruled as offside, but VAR overruled the call.

The Premier League's Match Centre said: "VAR checked the referee’s call of no goal for Tottenham Hotspur - and established that Richarlison was in an onside position in the build-up and recommended that the goal was awarded."
