Tottenham agree deal for Euros winner: report

Tottenham have already moved to back manager Ange Postecoglou in the transfer market this summer as the Australian prepares for his second season in north London. Still, more firepower could soon be on the way.

Spurs made a splash by spending £35million to bring in teenager Archie Gray from Leeds United. Lucas Bergvall has joined from Djurgarden, while Timo Werner has signed up for another year on loan from RB Leipzig.

And it now looks like the club are closing in on a fourth signing of the summer. Now, Postecoglou is set to address Spurs’ goalscoring issues, after the team scored fewer goals than another side in the top seven last season.

VIDEO How Gareth Southgate Evolved England (And Why He HAD To Go)

Tottenham look set to take advantage of a transitional summer at Juventus, where new manager Thiago Motta looks to improve on the Old Lady’s third-placed finish last season, by closing in on a move for forward Federico Chiesa.

The 26-year-old is in the final year of his contract in Turin and with no sign of an extension coming, reports in Italy claim he will be leaving the club, which saw the likes of Spurs, Roma and Chelsea linked with a move.

But the latest reports suggest that both Roma and Chelsea are now out of the race to sign the Italy international, clearing the way for Spurs to seal a €25m move for the forward.

And according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has already reached an agreement with the player’s representatives over a four-year deal worth around £97,000 per week, but he is not the only forward linked with a move to the club.

That’s because Bournemouth forward Dominic Solanke is said to be the club’s ‘top target’, as per TEAMtalk. The report states that the Cherries have ‘fears’ that the one-time England striker, who they have valued at £65m, could leave this summer.

In FourFourTwo's view, Chiesa may well have agreed a move in principle, but that doesn't mean the deal is quite over the line. Spurs will have to agree a fee before the Italy international arrives – and with a surplus of players in attacking areas, Daniel Levy may look to move on a squad player before bringing in another one.

Tottenham may have found a buyer in Italy for a midfielder who is not in their plans for next season, but the player's wage demands could prove a stumbling block to a summer transfer.

Spurs are working hard to move on some of the players who are surplus to requirements for manager Ange Postecoglou in order to raise funds for new signings.

Danish international Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is closing in on a move to Marseille after talks escalated in the last couple of days and now, another midfielder could be on his way out of the north London club.

VIDEO Why England Just Lost The Euro 2024 Final

Giovani Lo Celso has just helped Argentina win the Copa America and assisted the winning goal for Lautaro Martinez in the final against Colombia, but the midfielder has been unable to hold down a starting spot at Spurs.

And according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lazio could revive their interest in the 28-year-old, who is out of contract at Tottenham in 2025.

Lazio considered signing Lo Celso last year, but a deal was vetoed at the time by manager Maurizio Sarri. With Marco Baroni now in charge, it is thought the Rome-based club could be back in for the Argentine midfielder.

Napoli are also understood to be interested, but Lo Celso's reported wage demands of €4-5 million per year could scupper a move to Italy. The transfer fee would be around €10m (£8.4m), La Gazzetta say.

Meanwhile, Lo Celso has also been linked with Aston Villa in a sensational swap deal which would see Jacob Ramsey move the other way. However, manager Unai Emery already said in January that he had no intention of selling Ramsey, who came through the youth ranks at Villa.

In FourFourTwo's view, Lo Celso will end up leaving Tottenham this summer. Given his quality, it is surprising that he has not been able to hold down a starting spot at Spurs, but the former Real Betis and Paris Saint-Germain player has worked with several managers at the north London club and has not really been a regular starter for any of them. The time is right for everyone to move on for a player who still has plenty to offer.

Tottenham started last season spectacularly and sat on top of the Premier League after going unbeaten in their opening 10 games. Alas, it could not last.

Defeat to Chelsea in November ended that remarkable run for Ange Postecoglou's side and an injury crisis exposed the squad's shortcomings as Spurs lost four of the next five matches.

And five defeats in the last seven games of the season put paid to Tottenham's hopes of a place in the Champions League, with Aston Villa taking fourth place to leave Spurs reflecting on a campaign which had started so well but ultimately fizzled out in disappointing fashion. So where do the Lilywhites go from here?

VIDEO Ranking Every England Player At Euro 2024

Tottenham's dream transfer window: What's the priority this summer?

Tottenham made some excellent signings last summer following the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager, with Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven and James Maddison all impressing under the Australian.

Postecoglou is probably still a couple of players away from ideal XI and despite the signing of young midfielders Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, top priority this summer is probably still another midfielder.

It is well documented that Postecoglou is a fan of Chelsea's Conor Gallagher and with contract talks with the Blues having hit an impasse and the west London club likely needing to sell players this summer, the England midfielder could finally end up heading across the capital to sign for Spurs.

Atalanta's Ederson, Everton's Amadou Onana and Manchester United's Scott McTominay have been named as possible alternatives if Gallagher opts to stay at Stamford Bridge or decides that he cannot move to one of his club's fiercest rivals this summer.

Summer sales in N17

It was clear during Tottenham's injury crisis last season that many of the fringe players at Spurs are either not up to scratch or not suited to Postecoglou's playing style. And the Australian admitted towards the end of the campaign that there would be a number of departures in the summer.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is closing in on a move to Marseille, while Ryan Sessegnon was released at the end of his contract in June and record signing Tanguy Ndombele's was terminated by mutual consent as he joined Nice.

Richarlison could me the most high-profile player to leave Spurs this summer, with the Brazil forward having struggled with injuries in his two seasons at the club. The former Everton favourite is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, right-back Emerson Royal and winger Bryan Gil are also expected to be sold, while defender Joe Rodon has made his move to Leeds United permanent for £10 million and striker Troy Parrot has joined AZ Alkmaar for around £6.7m.

Will a Harry Kane replacement finally arrive?

Harry Kane played for Tottenham in pre-season last year, scoring four goals against Shakhtar Donetsk in a friendly, but left for Bayern Munich shortly before the start of the new campaign.

The England captain was not replaced, with Son Heung-min and Richarlison both used centrally in 2023/24, but the South Korean is not at his best in that position and the Brazilian struggled for fitness and goals.

One year on from Kane's exit, Spurs seem to be prioritising the arrival of a striker this time around. Feyenoord's Mexican forward Santiago Gimenez is one reported target, along with Brentford's Ivan Toney, Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy, RB Leipzig's Lois Openda and Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres. They might not be quite up to Kane's standard, but signing a specialist striker seems wise.

What about a centre-back?

Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are hugely popular players with Tottenham fans and their central defensive partnership is excellent. However, the Dutchman is prone to injury and the Argentine regularly suspended.

Spurs signed Radu Dragusin last January and the Romanian is likely to continue as back-up in 2024/25, but Postecoglou has admitted he would like to bring in another centre-back this summer.

Centre-backs Eric Dier, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga have all recently left Spurs and Postecoglou said in April: "If you're saying 'is it an area we can strengthen?' Yes it's an area we will probably look at."

Specifically, Spurs would like a left-sided centre-back. Tosin Adarabioyo was linked before leaving Fulham, but has since signed for Chelsea. Interestingly, midfielders Archie Gray and Oliver Skipp have been playing at centre-back in pre-season. The ever-dependable Ben Davies is also experienced cover across the back line.

Tottenham in talks with Marseille over midfielder transfer, with move close: report

Tottenham Hotspur are holding transfer talks with Marseille over a midfielder, with a summer move understood to be close to completion.

Big changes are expected at Spurs this summer ahead of Ange Postecoglou's second season at the North London club, with the Australian admitting earlier in 2024 that a number of high-profile exits might be needed along with new signings.

After a strong start in 2023/24, Tottenham faded in the second half of the season after an injury crisis which meant the fringe players had to come in, and the subsequent dip in form and results showed several of those seem unsuited to Postecoglou's ideas.

VIDEO Ranking Every England Player At Euro 2024

One player who does not seem to be quite in tune with the Australian's style of play is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and the Danish midfielder now seems close to a move away from N17.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Dane is expected to join Olympique Marseille, with a move to the Ligue 1 side "almost done" for the 28-year-old.

"Agreement in place with the player and also almost done with Tottenham, now working on final details," Romano wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Hojbjerg signed for Spurs from Southampton in 2020 and the Danish midfielder has made over 180 appearances for the Lilywhites in that time.

If a move to Marseille is completed, he will join former Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood and ex-Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi in a new era at Stade Velodrome.

In FourFourTwo's view, this is probably positive for Tottenham, depending on the fee. Hojbjerg has always given absolutely everything for Spurs, but he is not really a Postecoglou player and his sale should raise much-needed funds for other targets this summer. Meanwhile, Marseille will also be getting a quality and committed midfielder who should do really well in Ligue 1.

Tottenham poised for bargain striker - who's already rattled Arsenal fans: report

Tottenham Hotspur are looking set to sign a cut-price superstar striker. The best part? He's already upset the other half of north London.

It's been a steady start to the transfer window for the Lilywhites, with Archie Gray the headline acquisition. Lucas Bergvall has linked up in north London, too – but there are still deficiencies to address in attack.

The club didn't replace all-time record scorer Harry Kane directly, instead opting to bring in Brennan Johnson as an option out wide. But now, Tottenham might be set for the centre-forward they crave at an excellent price.

A report from The Sun, via TEAMtalk, says that the price of Ivan Toney has dropped to just £50 million. Spurs are in the driving seat, too, with other clubs prioritising other players.

Arsenal have moved on from wanting to sign Toney, while Manchester United have brought in Joshua Zirkzee. With the player obviously keen on a move, Tottenham are the only member of the so-called Big Six left in the race.

VIDEO Why England Just Lost The Euro 2024 Final

The England star has already endeared himself to Spurs fans, too. Toney tweeted, "Nice kick about with the boys," after Brentford beat Arsenal in their first-ever Premier League game, sparking upset from Gooners – as Mikel Arteta himself used the post itself as motivation to get a result in the return fixture, when Amazon's All Or Nothing documentary caught the Basque boss showing his stars Toney's words in a team talk.

In FourFourTwo's opinion, there doesn't appear to be any new information in this latest report. Tottenham seem simply to be leading the race for Toney by process of elimination – and there's no certainty that they're still eyeing him as a serious target, with the likes of West Ham United linked, too.

The 28-year-old has netted 169 club career goals in 418 games – but Spurs may passing on his signature for more of a ‘false nine’ type. TEAMtalk's report claims that the club are in contact over a move for Jonathan David.

Toney is worth €50 million, as per Transfermarkt. His contract expires next year.

Tottenham to make shock move for Conor Gallagher alternative: report

Tottenham are in the market for a midfielder this summer transfer window, and are prepared to end their interest in Chelsea's Conor Gallagher after identifying a suitable option.

In the past 12 months, Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Conor Gallagher, but Chelsea's high valuation and the player's reluctance to make the move to north London has meant no deal has come to fruition.

Spurs, as a result, have started looking at alternative options, and might just have found the perfect player to join the club this summer.

VIDEO: Ranking Every England Player At Euro 2024

According to The Sun, Tottenham are looking to hijack Fulham's £40m deal for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, who looks set to leave Old Trafford this summer.

With Manchester United looking to overhaul their squad, selling McTominay would help free up plenty of funds due to the Scotsman representing pure profit for the club, thus helping them balance the books. Fulham have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old, but Tottenham are now looking to muscle in on a deal.

The report suggests that Ange Postecoglou is a huge admirer of McTominay, believing that he would work brilliantly in midfield offering cover for James Maddison.

Galatasaray have also confirmed their interest in signing McTominay this summer, though his preference is to stay in the Premier League if he is to leave Manchester United. The midfielder nearly left last summer for £30m to West Ham United, but a deal fell through at the last minute.

And though he only has one more year remaining on his contract, with the club retaining an option for an extra year, Manchester United are now demanding £40m for the academy product. Transfermarkt values him at £27m.

In FourFourTwo's view, it seems increasingly likely that McTominay will depart Manchester United this summer, with the Scotsman not looking likely to start many games under Erik ten Hag. Whether that is to Tottenham, though, is a different matter: £40m is a lot of money, which could be used to improve other areas of the squad. Fulham still seem the side more likely to side him, having just lost Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich.

Tottenham line up bargain move for European superstar: report

Tottenham have been one of the Premier League’s early movers this summer, already bringing in Archie Gray from Leeds United and Lucas Bergvall from Djurgarden, while Timo Werner will return for another season on loan from RB Leipzig.

Boss Ange Postecoglou is looking for further additions as he seeks to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish and with five players leaving the club more new faces are expected.

And according to reports in Europe, the club could be looking to sign an unsettled international for something of a bargain fee in the coming weeks.

VIDEO: Alan Shearer Explains How England Could Have Won The Euros | FourFourTwo Meets...

That’s because Quotidiano Sportivo are reporting that Spurs are targeting Juventus forward Federico Chiesa, claiming that the 26-year-old has been granted extra time off this summer to get married and also to consider Tottenham’s interest.

The 51-time Italy international is now into the final year of his contract in Turin and is not believed to be part of new boss Thiago Motta’s plans going forward.

They add that Roma are also keen, but that interest has been put to one side by the forward. Tutto Juve add that the player is ‘increasingly distant’ from Juve, with his preference being a move overseas.

His asking price is believed to be in the €20-25million region, with Chelsea also being interested, as are Manchester United, who would be ready to discuss a swap deal involving Jadon Sancho.

In FourFourTwo’s opinion, if Spurs were able to land Chiesa for a fee towards the bottom end of the one that is quoted, he could be a good value signing. Injuries has stalled a career that looked very promising when he broke into the Italy squad and signed for Juventus, and any suitor will be cautious of this when committing to a significant transfer fee.

Chiesa is valued at €35million by Transfermarkt, down from a €70million peak in 2021 following his impressive displays at the delayed Euro 2020.

The Harry Kane trophy curse: Why England's greatest-ever striker hasn't won silverware

The words “Harry Kane trophy curse” have haunted not just England fans for a decade, but Tottenham and Bayern Munich supporters now, too. How can a player that good have never won a trophy?

It's unfathomable. The Three Lions skipper is arguably his country's greatest-ever centre-forward, having smashed the all-time scoring record, landed a World Cup Golden Boot and become one of just three players to have ever scored 200 goals in the Premier League. Ability-wise, he's as complete a package as you'd ever want a striker to be. It simply doesn't make sense.

While curses only arguably exist in football, there's a long history of nearly moments for Kane – will he break the duck tonight?

The Harry Kane trophy curse begins not at Tottenham… but at Leicester

Tottenham's last trophy came in 2008, in the form of a League Cup. Kane officially became a senior Tottenham player in 2009.

In 2012/13, Kane moved on loan to Norwich City for the first half of the season before spending the second half at Leicester City. With the Foxes chasing promotion, the future England star finds himself in the play-offs, scrapping it out for a shot in the Premier League.

Leicester get a penalty in the final minute against Watford in the play-off semi-final. Manuel Almunia saves from Anthony Knockaert, the Hornets get up the other end of the pitch and Troy Deeney scores an unbelievable last-gasp winner. Kane watches, helpless, from the bench. The hoodoo has begun.

Tottenham title charges under Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino arrives at Tottenham from Southampton. He looks to build his young Spurs side around the talented Kane, along with the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min, Mousa Dembele, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker.

Over the next few years, the term ‘Spursy’ is floated about, with the Lilywhites coming close to surprise Premier League titles. In 2015/16, Kane's former side, Leicester, would romp to a shock league triumph, with Spurs following in close pursuit. The title would be decided by an out-of-sorts Chelsea side, 10th in the table, snatching a 2-2 draw from 2-0 down and Tottenham imploding at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham would finish third that season behind bitter rivals, Arsenal – yet Kane and Co. would avenge the Gunners the following campaign, competing in another title fight against the Blues. Antonio Conte's side were just too good that season.

This is still a young side at this point. No one expects Kane to be winning trophies – though FA Cup and League Cup exits are somewhat disappointing, given the strength of this team.

It was (so nearly) coming home

Kane excels at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. As England's undisputed superstar, the Tottenham man nabs the Golden Boot, scoring key goals along the way to set up a semi-final against Croatia, and a best showing at the tournament since 1990.

Some will forever blame Kane for not passing to Raheem Sterling in the heat of the moment of England being 1-0 up in that game, instead taking a chance himself. This is incredibly harsh, however, and simply looking to hate on Kane.

And anyway, would England have beaten that flawless French side in the final? Probably not. Still, though, the wait for a trophy goes on for Harry.

Champions League final woe

Tottenham are drifting in the Premier League but in Europe, things are looking rosy. Without their talismanic striker in Kane, Pochettino's side successfully navigate the 2018/19 Champions League knockouts to get all the way to the final, beating Manchester City and Ajax on iconic European nights. Son leads the line wonderfully and a date is set with Liverpool in Madrid.

Kane recovers for the final. Naturally, Pochettino picks his best centre-forward. Of course, Liverpool are awarded a dodgy penalty in the first few seconds of the match.

Spurs lack dynamism in the final, with a few asking whether Kane is really fully fit or was rushed back for the fixture. From this moment onwards, things begin to capitulate for Pochettino, who struggles to overcome the disappointment of losing this showpiece. He's sacked from Tottenham the following autumn.

Pochettino's time in north London is regarded as one of the best that Spurs fans have ever known in terms of the style of play and competing at the very top. Yet he didn't win a single trophy. It still stings for some.

Enter the Special One

Tottenham have the bulk of a team in their prime, including Eriksen, Dele, Kane and Son – and so plump for serial winner Jose Mourinho to lead them to… well, something.

Mourinho has never been at a club and not won a trophy. COVID blights his first season, but when he gets a summer transfer window, he remoulds his squad and things begin to take shape. Kane and Son look phenomenal together, Tanguy Ndombele is a revelation and the omens are incredibly good.

For every season but one in Mourinho's long and illustrious career, his team have finished in the position they were in after 12 matches. Guess where they are after 12 matches…

Instead, Tottenham pick up three wins in the next 13. The club violently veer off track and drop out of the title race, eventually finishing seventh.

And that's not the worst part.

The Mason final

It's now 2021. Mourinho, somehow, leads Tottenham to a League Cup final against Manchester City. Up to this point in his career, he has won every single final he's been in – including against Pep Guardiola, who's set to stand opposite him on the touchline.

Tottenham tend to win trophies in years ending in ‘one’, too. FA Cup wins came in 1921, 1961, 1981 and 1991, the League Cup in 1971, and the club's only two titles were in 1951 and 1961, the latter of which being a Double-winning year.

And yet, the week before the final, Mourinho is sacked.

Kane's old team-mate, Ryan Mason, who has coached just one senior match before, takes charge for the Wembley final. To rub salt in the wounds, Aymeric Laporte tactically fouls Lucas Moura twice and is given just the one yellow card for it. Naturally, he scores the winner.

You don't need us to remind you of what happened during the summer of 2021. On (mostly) home soil, England came within a whisker of ending 55 years of hurt.

No one can blame Kane, who buried his penalty in the final shootout and finished the tournament with four goals (despite a slow start). This looked like a golden opportunity – but certainly not the last.

Manchester City want Kane

That summer, Manchester City make Kane one of two major targets from that Euros squad, with Jack Grealish eyed in a £100 million deal, too. Grealish is signed, no problem. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy demands £150m for Kane.

Unsurprisingly, City are reluctant to do a deal for that much. Kane goes on strike (not for long), rejoining new manager Nuno Espirito Santo for the start of the season.

Would Kane have won trophies with Guardiola? It's about as much of a certainty as you can get in football. It would be a very different-looking side to the one that eventually remodelled itself with Erling Haaland up front but given that they've won the title every season since, the FA Cup and the Champions League, it's fair to imagine that at least one of those pots would still have ended up at the Etihad – and Kane would have broken the duck.

Antonio Conte arrives

Nuno leaves. Another serial winner arrives in Antonio Conte.

Again, he's won a lot of trophies. He completely reworks Tottenham into his favoured 3-4-3 and immediately, things start clicking. The Lilywhites finish in the Champions League ahead of Arsenal and are ready for Champions League football.

Tottenham spend huge money in the summer of 2022. Richarlison becomes their record signing and Conte is backed to the hilt. There's talk of this Spurs side being the closest challengers to City and Liverpool… only Conte is sacked in March of the following season.

“Tottenham's story is this,” the furious Italian rants, in a press conference that would see him sacked. “20 years there is the owner and they never won something, but why? The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stays here?”

More World Cup woe

Plenty of England's youth teams have won titles by now. The Lionesses have won the European Championship at Wembley. But the senior men's team can't follow suit.

England are 2-1 down to France in Qatar, in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, when Kane steps up for his second penalty of the game. He blazes it over. It's gutting.

Again, the England captain is ridiculed. No, it's not fair.

A new chapter in Bavaria

In fact, H has the chance to start with a bang. He signs for Bayern the very same day as the German Supercup and is named on the bench for the clash against RB Leipzig.

You guessed it. Leipzig, who have never won the competition before, beat Bayern 3-0, with Dani Olmo netting a hat-trick. The game is practically beyond Kane, anyway, when he appears as a second-half substitute.

Never mind. Plenty of other trophies to win, right?

From bad to wurst

What unfolds in Kane's first season in German football is inexplicable. For the first time in over a decade, Bayern end the season empty-handed – but the manner of the collapse is incredible.

In the DFB-Pokal, Die Roten are knocked out by third-tier Saarbrucken. In the league, Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen triumph to an unbeaten Meisterschale, for the first time in their long history, ending labels of ‘Neverkusen’ once and for all. In the Champions League, they're leading Real Madrid in the Bernabeu and so take off Kane to shore up defensively. Sure enough, Joselu (yes, that one) scored a brace to knock them out.

With Bayern often looking to recruit from down the food chain in such times of crisis, Thomas Tuchel is relieved of duties, as Bayern aim to bring in former midfielder Alonso. Alonso turns them down. Julian Nagelsmann is linked with a return, only to reject the Bavarians, too. Ralf Rangnick, Oliver Glasner and Unai Emery all commit to their teams after links with the job, while Tuchel rejects the chance to stay after all, leaving Bayern to hire recently relegated Vincent Kompany. It's hard to write him off already but Bayern are heading into next season firmly as second-favourites for the title.

And as if things weren't bad enough, Bayern lost on the final day of the season, pushing them into third in the table. No big deal? No, but it denies them the chance of playing in the Supercup next season – another opportunity of silverware for Kane gone.

All the while, Kane won the Golden Boot in Germany last term and was the best centre-forward in Europe. We did say it was unfathomable.

Tottenham make contact for French wonderkid - who has received public backing from Thierry Henry: report

Tottenham are reportedly in contact with a French youngster who has already recevied a public backing from Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

The start of the 2024 summer transfer window has been a fairly busy one for Tottenham, with the signing of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall highlighting their focus on youth while under the management of Ange Postecoglou.

And that seems set to continue this summer, as Spurs attempt to bring some of the best young talent from across Europe to the club.

VIDEO: Why England FINALLY Came Good Against The Netherlands

According to Football.London, Tottenham are interested in signing Rennes youngster Desire Doue, a highly-rated winger who is also extremely comfortable operating in central areas.

Still only 19, Doue has attracted plenty of attention from across Europe, with his dribbling and directness making sides sit up and take notice of him. Indeed, Fabrizio Romano highlighted that "Tottenham have had some contact with his agents”.

The transfer guru also added that Bayern Munich have already had a £29m offer rejected for Doue, who had 10 goal contributions in 43 appearances for Rennes last season.

Tottenham aren't the only fans of Doue, either, with Thierry Henry having publicly backed the youngster by selecting him for his France team set to compete at the Olympics over the coming weeks. Henry will lead his home nation at the Olympics on home soil, seeking a gold medal in front of their fans.

Doue has played in all four warm-up games for Henry's side, against Ivory Coast, USA, Paraguay and Dominican Republic, scoring twice in that time. His involvement in the Olympics could delay any potential move to Tottenham, though, with football at the Games set to conclude on Saturday, August 10.

With two years remaining on his current contract, Doue is valued at £25m by Transfermarkt.

In FourFourTwo's opinion, signing Doue would certainly fit into their transfer model and the type of player they've been targeting in recent times - it just depends on how much money they're willing to spend. Rennes are clearly wanting a figure in the high-£30 millions, which Spurs might not feel is justified for a player still unproven. Postecoglou would certainly help him develop, though, so anything could happen here.

Tottenham are on the brink of completing a huge summer signing, with a full agreement close on a deal.

The Lilywhites are ready for a big second summer under Ange Postecoglou, with the Australian ready to revolutionise his squad further after getting back into Europe. Archie Gray has signed from Leeds United, with Lucas Bergvall arriving formally after he was bought in February.

And now, another big buy is on the horizon, as Postecoglou adds depth and quality to his side.

Turkish outlet Aksam claims that Poland international Sebastian Szymanski is all but complete, with just details to finalise.

Another Turkish outlet Aslinda has previously claimed that the Fenerbahce star has agreed a four-year deal, with this new information claiming that Tottenham's offer of €25m plus bonuses was “positive” for Jose Mourinho's side.

VIDEO Why Cody Gakpo's A Huge Problem For England

Previously, FourFourTwo stated that an agreement over a contract was the easy part, with the fee yet to be agreed – and that has definitely rung true with the only new info coming out about the offer that Spurs made.

It was previously claimed by TEAMtalk that the Pole would cost £30m, with Tottenham only offering £17.5m.

The 25-year-old is likely to slot into a No.8 role alongside James Maddison in the centre of midfield.

Transfermarkt rates Szymanski to be worth €19m.
