Ange Postecoglou expressed his frustration about his Tottenham Hotspur side consistently giving their rivals a “leg up” in games as Spurs slipped to their sixth defeat of the Premier League season.
The North London club lost 1-0 to Bournemouth on Thursday night, in a result that saw the Cherries leapfrog Spurs in the table. Dean Huijsen scored the only goal of the game as he headed home from a corner after 17 minutes. Since beating Manchester City immediately after the international break, Spurs have drawn with Fulham and Roma along with their loss to Bournemouth.
Reflecting on the game, the former Celtic boss said: "We started well and conceded a really poor goal. It's a difficult place to come when giving the opposition the opportunity to play in the manner they want. It's disappointing. It's something we've done consistently and we always pay the price for it.
"We started the second half with more conviction. Always be a tough game here. Don't want to give the opposition a leg up. We've done that in other games this year and paid the price. It comes down to us as a collective being a lot more determined to control a game of football and not let the opposition take control."
Spurs defender Destiny Udogie expressed frustration over the nature of the defeat, as he said: "We came here to win and it didn't go that way. We have to stay together and focus on the next game. They played their game. It was a tough game. Big disappointment to concede a goal like this. It's not the best time for us with injuries but as a group we have to stick together."
Up next for Spurs is the visit of in-form Chelsea, who won 5-1 at Southampton on Wednesday and sit second in the table after losing just two of their opening 14 games.
