Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero could leave the club this summer with Daniel Levy viewing the player as an important cash cow to fund a revamp of Ange Postecoglou’s squad in north London.

The Aussie head coach has retained the backing of the board over an underwhelming season and is expected to be backed with funds this summer with his squad having been ravaged by injury this term. Any incomings will have to be offset with some outgoings and one of those players could be the Argentina international.

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are said to be potential suitors for the 26-year-old. Romero has impressed in the Premier League since making the move to Spurs from Atalanta in 2021. He has been a key player for Postecoglou but has made just 14 Premier League appearances this term in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.

Daniel Levy could cash in on £50 million Spurs defender

This week, Football Insider claimed that the club could cash in on Romero for £50 million with the player supposedly keen to play Champions League football while in his prime. Tottenham Hotspur paid around £42 million to sign the player, so that fee would still represent a profit. It could be spent on Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, who has been named as a potential transfer target for Postecoglou.

Romero, who won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022, will enter the last two years of his contract at Tottenham Hotspur this summer. Giving his view on the rumours today, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano admitted that Romero’s departure could certainly be on the cards.

In his GiveMeSport newsletter, Romano wrote: “It's a possibility but not something guaranteed as it depends on Daniel Levy, and we know how strong Spurs are in negotiations. So it's something possible, definitely; but it has to be an important financial package or Levy won't accept anything.”

Cristian Romero is ‘heartbeat’ of Tottenham Hotspur side

Romero has made 115 appearances for Spurs and has often been praised for his performance levels even when the rest of the side have struggled. In April 2024, after a 3-2 derby loss to Arsenal, former Premier League defender Ashley Williams told Match of the Day that the player is the team’s ‘heartbeat’. He explained: "I'm a big fan of Cristian Romero. [His performance] is exactly what you want to see in this situation when your team are getting dominated.

"In the second half, he's decided to get the game by the scruff of the neck on his own and push his team on. He really drove his team forward. He wanted to get into the box and create something. He just decided that he's not going down without a fight and he's going to change the momentum of the game. That's the attitude you want.”

In other news, James Maddison and AJ Tracey have led the praise for a Tottenham Hotspur star this week after his impressive showing on loan in Scotland with a first goal for the club.

Tottenham have just one shot left at winning silverware this season under Ange Postecoglou which will come in the Europa League. Spurs got past AZ Alkmaar in the Round of 16, and face a quarter-final tie against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Postecoglou’s hopes of keeping his job at Tottenham could rest on success in the Europa League, due to his side’s failure to make an impact domestically. They sit 14th in the Premier League and could drop down to 16th with a defeat to Chelsea on Thursday.

Several managers have been linked to Spurs as replacements for Postecoglou with Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Fulham’s Marco Silva all touted to replace the former Celtic manager.

AC Milan looking to land Tottenham Director Paratici

If Tottenham are to replace Postecoglou in the summer, the management team in North London will have a big decision to make regarding who they choose to be his successor.

Tottenham’s former managing Director Fabio Paratici is currently undergoing a ban from his role after his alleged involvement in false accounting at Juventus before he joined Spurs in 2021.

He has been out of the role since April 2023 after resigning after being hit with a 30-month ban by FIFA. However, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the ex-managing director is in talks with AC Milan, who would like to bring him in as a sporting director in the summer. Further reports from Gianluca Di Marzio have claimed a meeting was held in London on Tuesday between Paratici and Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani.

According to Tottenham insider John Wenham, Paratici, who managed to get Antonio Conte to join Spurs, could use his contacts to set up a meeting between Spurs and former Barcelona manager Xavi.

He told Tottenham News: “Xavi would be someone I would look to contact. If Spurs have any sort of ambition, that is the calibre of manager we should be going after. I understand you need the contacts to help make it happen. However, Paratici managed to attract Antonio Conte, which didn’t seem possible at the time. I’m sure he could help Tottenham get a meeting with Xavi.”

Xavi spent two seasons at Saudi Pro League side Al Sadd, before becoming Barcelona manager in 2021. He spent three seasons with the La Liga giants, winning a La Liga title in the 2022/23 season.

Who are the current favourites to replace Postecoglou?

It isn’t clear yet as to whether Daniel Levy is looking to replace the Tottenham manager, but if he does, who are the most likely candidates that could take over the role and try to finally bring a trophy.

One of the favourites to take over from the Australian manager is former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently the manager of the USA National Team.

Pochettino has a very close relationship with Levy, and said in an interview earlier in March that he would “love to come back” to Tottenham if the chance became available. However, seeing as he is currently in a job, it would seem unlikely in the immediate future.

Thomas Frank is also a name mentioned, he was touted to take over from Erik ten Hag at Manchester United in the autumn before the Red Devils appointed Ruben Amorim. Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva are the next two favourites ahead of Ipswich Town boss Kieran Mckenna in fifth.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison and famous fan AJ Tracey have led the praise for youngster Alfie Dorrington after the defender scored his first goal for Aberdeen at the weekend.

The 19-year-old joined the Scottish side on loan in January and scored his side’s first goal in a 4-1 win over Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday. Dorrington has made nine appearances for Aberdeen and earned the praise of manager Jimmy Thelin after scoring.

The Aberdeen boss said: “When new players arrive everybody wants it to happen quickly. However, it’s a new environment for Alfie and a new context. It’s also new team-mates and a different style of how we play and even how we train.

Tottenham Hotspur loanee praised for adaptability

“He has adapted really well and taken on that responsibility. Alfie has adapted to the league and our style. He has been really good in the last games.”

Dorrington made his first team debut for Tottenham Hotspur when coming off the bench in a 5-0 win over Southampton in the Premier League in December 2024. The centre-back signed a new contract in north London, extending his deal to 2029, before heading on a temporary switch to Aberdeen.

The player initially did not see much game time for the Dons with just one start in his first six weeks but an injury to centre back Kristers Tobers has seen more minutes in recent weeks. Celebrating his first professional goal with a social media post on Instagram, Dorrington wrote: “Buzzing to score my first professional goal. More importantly, three points and a great team performance. Thanks for your support.”

Chelsea and West Ham stars praise Dorrington

Hundreds of comments came flooding in to congratulate the defender. Maddison wrote ‘Love it mate’ and Spurs-loving rapper AJ Travey said ‘gwarn’. Chelsea youngster Omari Kellyman left two heart-eyes emojis with Crystal Palace winger Romain Esse using the same emoji. Aberdeen striker Kevin Nisbet used the archery emoji while West Ham defender Ollie Scarles commented flames emojis.

When arriving at Aberdeen in January, Dorrington told the club website: “It’s amazing to finally be here. Everyone has been so welcoming; it feels like home already. I know it’s a big club with a lot of history and the supporters are really passionate so it was a no brainer for me.

“As soon as I spoke to the manager and heard about what he wants to achieve here I just wanted to get up here as soon as possible. I believe the way he wants to play will suit my style and he just wants this to be the best part of my career. It’s my first loan so I want to start as many games as I can, work hard and I hope I can repay the faith the manager has shown in me.”

Aberdeen now sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership, one point of Hibernian and the top three after 31 matches. Next up for the side is a trip to Ross County on Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur rising star Yang Min-hyeok became the youngest Korean footballer to score in professional English football on Saturday as he netted a consolation goal for QPR in a 3-1 defeat to Stoke City in the Championship.

The 18-year-old winger is spending the back half of the season on loan at Loftus Road having signed for Spurs on a K-League record £3.3 million agreement from Gangwon FC last summer. Yang remained in South Korea after that deal and only arrived in the UK in December. The forward is yet to make his Tottenham Hotspur debut but was named on the bench by Ange Postecoglou for Premier League fixtures against Everton and Leicester City in January.

Yang has gone on to make nine Championship appearances for QPR and scored his first goal against the Potters, having picked up a first assist against Derby County in February. The winger found the back of the net after 78 minutes having come on as a substitute with his side already 3-0 down.

Yang scored ‘lovely’ QPR goal

The player picked up the ball on the edge of the area and took one touch before instinctively firing across the goalkeeper and into the right hand side of the net. The QPR official website labelled the goal a ‘lovely strike’, which came after a week when Yang made his debut for the South Korea national team.

QPR head coach Marti Cifuentes was hugely critical of his side’s performance after full time and, when asked about the Yang goal, said: “It’s a good goal but it’s far too late.

“As I said, there are very few things that we can take from the game today. We need to make sure we turn the page very quick before the massive game against Cardiff City. We need to be proud of the situation we put ourselves in during winter but the last six or seven games we are far from the level. We need to bounceback as a team and as a club.”

There are high hopes for Yang both at club level and internationally. The forward won the Young Player of the Year award in the K-League in 2024, helping a formerly relegation-threatened Gangwon to a historical second-place finish with 12 goals.

Spurs loanee tipped to eclipse Son Heung-min

To understand the hype around the South Korea international, LondonWorld spoke to Korean football specialist Joel Kim earlier this year. Joel explained: “We want him to be the best he can be and to take Korean football to another level, he’s the youngest player to have been recruited by a Premier League club.

“He’s going to break those records being so young and already making an impact. We are hoping that Son Heung-Min’s ceiling will be Yang’s floor, if he can take Korean football to another level. We’re seeing some promising signs of that for sure, especially with his adjustment to the Championship. We have hopes but it’s too soon to say he’ll be the next Son Heung-min or the next legend. Only time will tell.”

Tottenham have confirmed they will face North London rivals Arsenal in a pre-season friendly in Hong Kong. The clash will be the first North London derby to played outside of the UK, treating fans in Asia to a pre-season spectacle.

The fixture will take place on Thursday, July 31, with the kick-off time to be confirmed at a later date. It will be hosted at Kai Tak Stadium, which is Hong Kong’s newest sports venue, holding 50,000 people, and it will be part of the Hong Kong Football Festival 2025.

Spurs say they will be supporting a number of good causes during their time in Hong Kong, including delivering football clinics for young people in the region.

A club statement read: We are pleased to announce a men’s first-team fixture against Arsenal in Hong Kong as part of our summer pre-season tour. The fixture will take place on Thursday 31 July, 2025, at the 50,000-seater Kai Tak Stadium, which opened in March 2025 as the city’s newest iconic sports & entertainment venue.

“It is the first time we have played a north London derby outside of the United Kingdom, with the match forming part of the Hong Kong Football Festival 2025 (HKFF). To be the first to know about ticketing details for this match, sign up here. Members of the local Tottenham Hotspur Official Supporters’ Clubs will receive an exclusive link to access tickets for the match.

“An Open Training session will take place on Tuesday 29 July ahead of the match with ticketing details to follow in due course. As is Club tradition, players and staff will be engaging with our fans, supporting good causes, and celebrating local culture throughout our time in Hong Kong. We will also be activating with AIA, the Club’s Global Principal Partner, on the tour as part of its mission to deepen engagement with AIA communities across Asia and promote health and well-being. Alongside this, the Club’s Global Football Development coaches will deliver our renowned technical programme for local young players and coach education workshops, showcasing the authentic training methods developed within the Club’s Academy, helping young players to reach their full potential.”

Tottenham’s chief revenue officer Ryan Norys said: “There are few bigger occasions in English football than a north London derby and to play this fixture in Hong Kong will be a huge occasion for our passionate fanbase across Asia, as well as providing ideal preparation for the team ahead of the new season.

“As is tour tradition, the Club will be involved in so much more than the match itself when we visit, supporting charitable causes, celebrating local culture, delivering football clinics for young people and engaging with fans and partners. We cannot wait to visit such a beautiful place once again.”

Spurs are set to confirm their other pre-season fixtures in due course, with other games in Asia likely, while it remains to be seen whether they will travel to the US this time out. Premier League clubs typically play in either Asia, USA or both these days in a bid to grow their brands in those lucrative markets.

Tottenham Hotspur may not have European qualification in their sights as the Premier League returns this week but there is still plenty of pride to salvage for Ange Postecoglou, and the small matter of a shot at silverware in the Europa League.

It’s been an underwhelming second campaign for Postecoglou who, should he still be in a job next term, will have to find a marked improvement quickly. Daniel Levy has been patient with the Aussie and is expected to back the club financially this summer after an injury blighted 2024/25 campaign.

LondonWorld looks at the current transfer rumours swirling around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to see what a dream starting XI could look like next season should those current links come true.

Totteham Hotspur sell £45m man to fund Crystal Palace swoop

Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario

Defenders: Pedro Porro, Micky Van de Ven, Marc Guehi, Djed Spencer

There's not a shortage of goalkeeping options with Antonin Kinsky having come through the door in January. Guglielmo Vicario is the least of Postecoglou's worries and a confident number one.

There could be some changes in the ever-porous Spurs defence. The Aussie coach will put those frailties down to injuries, which is true, but the acquisition of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace would be an improvement - TBR Football reported over the weekend that Cristian Romero could be sold to a La Liga side for £45 million, with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid linked, and that money used to bring in Guehi.

Spurs breathe new life into midfield

Midfielders: James Maddison, Angel Gomes, Joao Gomes

Tottenham Hotspur fans are still yet to see the best of James Maddison but fresh blood around him in the centre of the park may help do that. Lille midfielder and England international Angel Gomes appears Premier League bound on a free transfer and Spurs lead that race ahead of West Ham. Meanwhile, GiveMeSport claimed last week that Joao Gomes at Wolves is a £50 million target for Postecoglou to add bite in that position.

Southampton teenager makes Tottenham Hotspur move

Wingers: Tyler Dibling, Mathys Tel

Striker: Dominic Solanke

Mathys Tel flip flopped between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in January but eventually elected on a loan move to Spurs from Bayern Munich. Postecoglou has made no secret of his desires to make that move permanent and a fully fit Dominic Solanke would allow Tel to move to the wing.

Southampton teenager Tyler Dibling was named a 'top target' for Spurs last week. The 19-year-old has sparkled in a rather unpolished Saints side this term and is expected to bounce back up to the Premier League instead of spending a season in the Championship next year.

Chelsea return to Premier League action next week with the small matter of a London derby under the lights at Stamford Bridge with Tottenham Hotspur making the short trip down from north London.

The Blues are looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal before the international break while Spurs are also in need of a response having been defeat 2-0 by Fulham at Craven Cottage earlier this month. Enzo Maresca’s side sit in fourth, 10 places and 15 points ahead of Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The Premier League has confirmed who will be in charge of that fixture with Craig Pawson appointed to take charge at Stamford Bridge. It’s fair to say that Pawson’s name is not one that will bring about too many smiles from Chelsea supporters, who have felt hard done by with some of the referee’s decisions in recent years.

Premier League confirms referee for Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur

Pawson was the official in charge for the unforgettable 2-2 draw with Aston Villa last April. Chelsea thought they had won that match when Axel Disasi nodded home from close range later on. However, VAR identified a foul in the lead-up to the goal and Pawson was sent to the screen to look at the clash between Diego Carlos and Benoit Badiashile before disallowing the goal.

That decision outraged former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino who claimed VAR had ‘damaged English football’ after the match. Pochettino said: "Everyone that was watching the game will feel disappointed. Two different things the referee said it was a foul and disallowed the goal and then going to the VAR to confirm.

"The referee is unbelievable and it's ridiculous. It is difficult to accept, these type of things in the semi-final [FA Cup against Man City] two weeks ago it was handball and it was no penalty, the referee he didn't check it.

"It is painful as it has damaged English football and I think Villa players and their fans didn't understand why the goal was disallowed. They said it was foul and if you see the challenge what happened if we go into every single challenge like this it is going to be a foul and we wouldn't finish the game with 11 [players]. We can talk about the performance or the decision - it is damaging the game."

Mark Halsey criticises Craig Pawson

Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey also criticised the decision. He told The Sun: "I was baffled why VAR got involved because it wasn't a clear and obvious error.

"Referee Craig Pawson had a great view of the incident, he was looking directly at both players and allowed play to continue. If Pawson thought it was a foul by Benoit Badiashile on Diego Carlos then why didn't he award a free-kick straight away? I felt it was a foul but Pawson had to give it in real-time and then there wouldn't have been a fuss afterwards. My big problem with this incident is it's a classic case of technology re-refereeing a game and not what VAR is there for.

"VAR official Chris Kavanagh recommended an on-field review and Pawson changed his mind. I've watched Pawson for a long time and he does not seem to make the big decisions and uses VAR as a back-up. Although we got the right decision, the process of how we got there is not how we should be operating VAR in the Premier League.”

Tottenham may have a decision to make this summer with one of their up and coming young stars. Ange Postecoglou - or whoever is in charge - will have some tough decisions to make in general, with the squad in need of reshaping.

Spurs have come up way short this season, currently in the bottom half and with their only avenue to European qualification an unlikely one - the North London club being required to win the Europa League.

A big decision faces the Tottenham board as they weigh up whether or not to keep Postecoglou, who has been hard done by this season, facing a plague of injuries, but on the other hand, he has also failed to find solutions, which is ultimately his job.

Whether Spurs keep Postecoglou or not, the board are going to have to back whoever is in charge, with significant improvement needed in the current squad, and depth is an even greater need, as has been proven by the never-ending stream of injuries the squad has been through this season.

One player who faces an intriguing immediate future is Mikey Moore. The 17-year-old has a big future ahead of him, something everyone agrees upon, but while he has looked dangerous at senior level, it doesn’t mean he is guaranteed regular appearances, with more experienced and - at this stage at least - better players ahead of him.

That could lead Spurs to loan Moore out next season so that he can continue his development with more regular game time, at least if pre-season shows Postecoglou or whoever is in charge that he is not quite ready to be a first team regular.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson has had his say on the situation, and he told Tottenham News: “There’s an option [to go on loan] for him. How much is he going to be used next year? What type of development is the player going to have? And is it going to hamper his development by not playing every week? Or is the player going to be better sent out on loan, being a part of a first-team squad, playing every week?

“There are different characters. He strikes me as the type of character who would absolutely relish going out on loan, being the main man somewhere, scoring the goals, and coming back after a season on loan. For me, looking at him, if he’s not going to be part of the first team next year on a regular basis, he’ll be in the squad, but actually 10 minutes off the bench here and there, hopefully maybe some European football, is not going to be enough for him. I think going out on loan will be better.”

Postecoglou said of Moore earlier in the season: “He was exciting, you cannot deny it. There is no point denying it. I love the way Mikey is taking it all in his stride, he works hard every day. He wants to develop, he understands that this is a journey. It’s very easy for a young guy like him, who has just turned 17, to feel like he has somehow made it, but you never get that sense.

“It’s exciting. You have got such a young player, who wants that responsibility to make an impact, rather than just sometimes with young players they are a bit worried about making mistakes. He is developing well. We have to be really careful about how we use him, and when we use him, that is the key for us, particularly in these early stages.”

Tottenham Hotspur have made promising Southampton youngster Tyler Dibling their ‘top target’ this summer according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs are one of several Premier League clubs to be linked with a move for the 19-year-old in recent weeks. Dibling has proven himself in the top flight with the Saints this season, despite the club enduring a thoroughly underwhelming campaign on the south coast.

Southampton looked doomed for relegation as they sit eight points adrift at the bottom of the table. That has potential suitors sniffing around a deal for Dibling, who is expected to want to bounce straight back up to the Premier League rather than spend next season in the Championship.

Tottenham Hotspur make Southampton man ‘top target’

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano said: “At the moment, I can confirm that for Tottenham, he’s kind of their top target. They love the player, they would love to bring him in in the summer transfer window – but again, it’s not going to be super easy. Manchester City – let’s see, because City at the moment are following the player, but from what I have heard, they haven’t started any concrete conversation.”

Dibling is contracted at Southampton until 2026, which also puts the club under pressure to sanction an exit or risk losing their youth product for free at the end of the 2025/26 season. GiveMeSport had previously claimed that Spurs were already front of the queue, with their position given even more strength by the Romano claims.

Dibling’s minutes have decreased under Ivan Juric, who could be looking ahead to a future without the dynamic midfielder. The report adds that Southampton did not want to entertain a January exit for the player, who is valued at £50 million, but that a summer exit could be sanctioned for as low as £35 million given his contract extension.

Tyler Dibling has ‘something special’ in Premier League

Spurs are claimed to have already made contact with Dibling’s camp and believe he is sold on Ange Postecoglou’s project. Tottenham Hotspur were said to be confident that agreeing personal terms with the player won’t be a problem but Newcastle United, Manchester United and Aston Villa are also linked with the player hailed as ‘something special’ by Danny Murphy.

Speaking on Match of the Day in December, former Tottenham Hotspur star Danny Murphy tipped Dibling to go on and achieve big things in his career. The pundit said: "It is the quality he has got - the belief in himself and the physical power. He just goes past people with ease. He has got a lovely left foot. He is very brave on the ball and his decision-making is good.

"It is difficult to get too over the top with these young players, because he has just come on to the scene, but he is going to be something special. It is great for him getting all these minutes at Southampton. They are giving him the freedom to play and giving him time to learn the game.

"He is just enjoying himself and he is playing with a real belief in himself. He is just instrumental in this team."

Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and a gaggle of Premier League clubs eyeing up a summer swoop for in-demand AFC Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo have been told that it will take a £70 million bid to tempt the club into a sale.

That’s according to a fresh report from The i Paper. Semenyo has bagged seven goals and picked up four assists in the top flight for the Cherries so far this season as Andoni Iraola’s side continues to impress.

Semenyo joined the club in January 2023 from Bristol City with AFC Bournemouth paying £10 million for the star, who signed a four and a half year deal with the club. The winger signed a new deal with the club last year, which keeps him at the Vitality Stadium until 2029, but the report suggests that the prospect of a £60 million profit on the player would be too tempting for the club to resist.

Antoine Semenyo is an Arsenal fan

TBR Football named Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur as clubs who have shown an ‘interest’ with Newcastle United also in the running. Arsenal are also touted as potential suitors and could perhaps be frontrunners given that Semenyo has confessed he is an Arsenal fan.

Speaking last year, the talented striker said: “I am an Arsenal fan. I don’t conflict the two with my job. It is great to play against Arsenal, a team I have watched all my life and I want to play for the top clubs as well.

“In order for that to happen I need to prove it. The aim is to play in the Champions League. I know that’s not going to come with a click of my fingers, it’s going to take some time.

“It’s going to take goals. It’s going to take a lot of consistent performances. But I’ve worked all my life for that and I’m just going to continue working hard. That’s my mentality.”

Speaking late last year, Semenyo put his recent success down to a new, freedom-based approach. In those quotes, the player appeared to hint at a willingness to ignore transfer speculation over his future.

AFC Bournemouth star working hard despite Chelsea and Tottenham transfer talk

He said: “It’s continuing working hard, enjoying the game, just playing with no pressure. I feel like just being easy on the pitch, like, having that freedom is what’s given me my success right now so just need to continue playing with no pressure really just continue to enjoy the game, have fun with the ball and try to rack up as many goals as I can.”

It will be an interesting summer for AFC Bournemouth, with several first team stars the centre of transfer rumours thanks to their form this year. The Cherries sit 10th in the top flight and are just three points off Newcastle United in sixth.

Providing an update to GiveMeSport earlier this month, Fabrizio Romano said: "[Milos] Kerkez, [Dean] Huijsen, Semenyo... many Bournemouth players are attracting interest, but I don't think they will sell 3–4 players. Semenyo has chances to go as interest is there, but it's not something guaranteed now, as the club will try to fight to keep him."

In other news, Arsenal, Tottenham and Premier League sides are set to benefit from a head start in the summer transfer window this year.
