Tottenham continue to falter, losing 4-2 to strugglers Wolves over the weekend, leaving them as low as 15th in the Premier League. Injuries have plagued their season, but even with many of the players back, Spurs fans have not seen much improvement over recent weeks.
Ange Postecoglou is now coming under intense scrutiny as a result, with other managers now being linked with his job. Here we round up the latest on the situation.
Tottenham still to make a decision
Tottenham are almost certain to stick with Postecoglou until the end of the season, given they would not get a permanent replacement at this stage of the season even if they were to pull the trigger, and it would do them no good to have an interim boss between now and then.
While the Premier League campaign has been a disaster this term, Tottenham’s season remains alive for as long as they are in the Europa League, heading into Thursday night’s quarter-final with Eintracht Frankfurt on level terms.
If they can somehow win that competition, Spurs will secure Champions League qualification, and that would make it a relatively successful season on the basis of meeting their principle goal. But whether or not they do qualify for Europe for next season, there is going to be a big decision to make on Postecoglou this summer.
What Postecoglou has said
Postecoglou last spoke after the 4-2 defeat to Wolves, saying: “Obviously a disappointing result. Funny game, because for the most part, I thought our football was decent considering all the changes we've made. For the most part we controlled large parts of it, were a threat going forward and didn't give them too much. But then obviously we conceded some pretty poor goals and that made it awfully difficult to get an outcome today.
"It's not like the players are doing it on purpose, so you have an understanding that that's the unfortunate things that sometimes happen in a game of football. Probably be more frustrated if it was something that we did from a tactical perspective or organisational perspective, but they're individual errors, you know, the players don't mean to do it and, especially Lucas and Romero, I mean they're two fantastic footballers and what's important now for both of them is that they recover and we focus on the next game."
Prime candidates
According to a report from The Athletic, Tottenham have three main targets if they decide to move on from Postecoglou. AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is said to be atop the list having impressed on the South Coast, while he also worked wonders with very little at Rayo Vallecano.
The report goes on to add that Fulham’s Marco Silva and Thomas Frank are also under consideration. All three bosses have overperformed with limited resources at their current clubs.
Romano on Tottenham options
Responding to links with Thiago Motta, who is currently manager of Juventus, Fabrizio Romano told GiveMeSport: "I’m still hearing about Iraola and Silva as two concrete options. For Motta, no contacts at this stage."
