Chelsea have reportedly shown interest in Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani who has fallen out of favour in the French capital. The Blues are keen to sign a striker in January as they have been linked to several names, but Muani has become the most recent.
The French forward has made 10 appearances in Ligue 1 so far this season, scoring twice with one assist. He joined from Bundesliga side Frankfurt in 2023 for a fee of £76.4m. However, Kolo Muani has struggled at PSG, scoring just 11 goals in his time at the Parc de Princes.
The poor performances have led to reports suggesting that he will make a move away during the January transfer window. The latest comes from French news outlet Footmercato, who are reporting that Chelsea are the latest team to join the race for the 26-year-old.
The Blues currently sit fourth in the Premier League table after two winless games in the league against Everton and Fulham. Enzo Maresca will want to strengthen in January in order to re-ignite their title fight against Liverpool and Arsenal. The report suggests that Chelsea are set to make contact with PSG in the upcoming days as the January transfer window begins and Maresca lines up his list of targets to bring to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea face Premier League competition to sign Kolo Muani
The Blues aren’t the only side that are keen to land Kolo Muani as reports have linked him to Arsenal too. The Gunners have reportedly wanted to speak with PSG in order to sign the striker in January on a loan deal. Newcastle United and West Ham are also reportedly interested in a loan move for the 26-year-old.
Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked in recent weeks alongside Manchester United following reports that PSG have identified Kolo Muani as ‘surplus to requirements’. Earlier reports claimed the player had already been offered to Arsenal ahead of the January window. The heavy interest in Kolo Muani means that it is likely that the Frenchman will leave Paris during the January transfer window, and with significant Premier League interest, he could move across the channel.
What type of player is Kolo Muani?
The French striker likes to play as an attacker, but he can play across the line. Kolo Muani is a versatile player who likes to feature in a front three either on the left, right or in the middle. He would fit a team like Arsenal who don’t tend to play with a typical out-and-out striker. However, Chelsea could also provide a solid destination considering Kolo Muani’s likeness to Blues striker Nicolas Jackson.
The former Nantes bagsman has made 27 appearances for the French national team, scoring eight goals. His estimated value is around the £25m mark, but seeing as PSG paid almost £80m for him, the French side will likely demand a hefty fee for any Premier League team that is interested. Jackson’s improved form this season has made the need for a new striker less significant for the Blues next month. Chelsea are more likely to be focused on exits in January, with reports emerging that five players have already been put on the transfer list.
