How Chelsea Have Lined Up Recently

Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have shared goalkeeping duties with both impressing recently. The battle for the number one spot is on, even if Sanchez appears to be the current favourite. At the back, Moises Caicedo, Malo Gusto, Wesley Fofana, and Axel Disasi have all featured as starters on the right since Reece James’ injury.

Disasi and Fofana have also played in the middle alongside Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, and Tosin Adarabioyo. Marc Cucurella has the left-back position locked down with Renato Veiga offering rotation in Europe and cup competitions.

In the middle of the park, Caicedo has featured alongside Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez in different combinations. Cesare Casadei and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall played in these deeper roles against Heidenheim.

In attack, we have seen Joao Felix, Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, and Mykailo Mudryk across the front line with Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, and Marc Guiu playing as the strikers.

Chelsea Recent Form and Tactics

Maresca has remained true to his 4-2-3-1 base formation but it has become more controlling in recent outings. It is almost a permanent 3-2-4-1 with it at times being similar to a 3-3-4. The full-backs both tend to move up higher now and occupy space while Enzo joins the attacking midfield and occupies defenders to take pressure away from Palmer.

This has proven to be a success with the Blues grinding teams down and carving them open due to the overwhelming nature of their attacks, recycling the ball has become the norm and the wingers keep the pitch stretched for the others to exploit.

Results have been really good as the team are on a streak of seven matches without defeat, a run that’s seen them climb to second in the table, ahead of Arsenal on goal difference. This takes attention to the strong rate that the team are both creating and scoring chances since the slightly poor run against Arsenal and Manchester United where they only managed a lucky goal in each outing.

Chelsea Injuries to Consider

Fofana and James remain sidelined as updated by the manager. Mudryk is still sick and will be a late decision.
