ROBIN VAN PERSIE suffered an embarrassing 9-1 defeat as manager of Dutch side Heerenveen.

In just his fourth game in charge of the club, he saw his team demolished by AZ Alkmaar.

Van Persie looked devastated on the sidelines as Heerenveen conceded SEVEN goals in just 37 second-half minutes.

And to make matters worse for the former Arsenal striker, ex-Tottenham youngster Troy Parrot scored four times.

The disaster began just a few minutes into the game as Sven Mijnans broke the deadlock for the hosts.

But there was brief hope as Luuk Brouwers headed in to equalise after 19 minutes.

Parrott got his first soon after - only for the floodgates to open in the second-half.

The 22-year-old got another three as Ibrahim Sadiq, Mexx Meerdink, Kristijan Belic and Zico Buurmeester helped themselves to goals in the rout.

Heerenveen fans raged after the game, with one saying: "Total disgrace and humiliation."

Another added: "Not all great players turn out to be great managers."

Others called for the club to reimburse their travelling supporters.

The defeat leaves Van Persie's side 12th in the Eredivisie, with one win, one draw and two losses so far.
