QPR are set to complete the loan signing of rising Tottenham Hotspur star Yang Min-hyeok today in a head-turning coup for Marti Cifuentes and the London outfit.
Transfer news around Loftus Road this week has centred around outgoings with Hevertton Santos heading to Vitória de Guimarães on loan and the R's fighting to keep youngster Emmerson Sutton. However, there is also set to be another new face arriving at Loftus Road to link-up with Cifuentes' in form QPR side.
That is young Spurs winger Yang as the R's look to make the most of the Tottenham Hotspur academy once again. The club signed star midfielder Kieran Morgan as a free agent last summer after his release from the youth set-up in North London.
Football London reporter Alasdair Gold had reported claims of the transfer and those were picked up by specialist Fabrizio Romano on Tuesday. Taking to social media platform X, Romano wrote: "Tottenham’s January signing Yang Min-hyeok, set to sign for QPR today on loan move.
"Spurs gave the green light as @AlasdairGold reports; there was interest from three clubs, 18-year-old talent has also accepted QPR as destination."
Ange Postecoglou outlines Yang plan
The teenager arrives in west London with plenty of hype around his potential. Yang only arrived at Spurs last month but a deal for the player to move from Gangwon FC had been agreed last summer.
The forward is primarily a right winger but can play on either flank and won the Young Player of the Year award in the K-League last season. Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was asked about his plans for the player ahead of the meeting with Newcastle United earlier this month and said: "He is still very young and has come in from the other side of the world where the level of competition is nowhere near what he is going to face here.
"We will just give him time to adapt. It helps that Sonny is here and kind of helps him around when he is at the club and outside the club. We are just trying to get him settled early and give him the chance to settle in. No real plan, we will just take it as it goes with him and see how he settles in."
The Premier League worked with Asian football expert John Duerden to run an in-depth look at the player at the end of December. That report labelled the teenager's rise and debut season as 'remarkable'.
Tottenham Hotspur youngster could be ‘next Phil Foden’
Yang scored 12 goals last term and picked up six assists for Gangwon FC as the side finished the league as runners-up, having never previously placed above sixth.
The winger received a record number of votes to be named the Rookie of the Year before signing a five-and-a-half year deal with Spurs. The football expert compared Yang to Phil Foden, an inspiration for the player, who sported the number 47 when playing for Gangwon.
The 18-year-old said: "My strength is dribbling, using speed, and I think my finishing ability has improved recently. I might be a bit behind in terms of physicality… so I’m trying to improve that."
The winger was called up to the South Korean national squad in August, the player is credited for his workrate without the ball, which will be music to the ears of Cifuentes and QPR.
That attitude was praised by Yang's head coach at Gangwon, Yoon Jung-Hwan. He said: "Especially for a young player, Yang is very smart. That is what makes him different. He understands his opponents and has a very bright future if he keeps working hard."
In other news, QPR landed a transfer blow on Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea amid reports of a new contract for a Loftus Road hotshot this week.
