Former Tottenham Hotspur man on Sheffield United's transfer radar after Jimmy Dunne bid rejected by QPR

Sheffield United could turn their attentions elsewhere in their pursuit of defensive additions if they fail to make a breakthrough over QPR’s Jimmy Dunne, The Star understands. The Blades have made Dunne their top centre-half target before Monday’s transfer deadline but saw a bid rejected by the Londoners recently.
Dunne is out of contract at Loftus Road in the summer and is yet to commit to fresh terms, with United keen for centre-half reinforcements after losing Leicester City loanee Harry Souttar to a season-ending Achilles’ injury. Dunne’s name featured on a long list of potential targets drawn up before the window opened, with Harry Darling of Swansea City and Ipswich Town’s Luke Woolfenden also inked upon it.
But United will not be held to ransom in the transfer market and if they cannot strike a satisfactory deal for Dunne they will move on to alternative targets. The Star understands that Millwall’s Japhet Tanganga is one potential name that the Blades could move for, with the former England U21 international enjoying something of a resurgence after moving to The Den from Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking earlier this week boss Chris Wilder confirmed a bid had been placed for a defensive target but added: “There are other players on that list and we're working tirelessly. And we will do that until the end of the window. There'll be a couple coming available over the weekend, without a shadow of a doubt, because that's always the case. As we've seen previously here, and in the window.
“We're ready to do business and if it's not a permanent and it doesn't fit, or it's too expensive or the wages are too high or the selling club's fee is too high and not reasonable for us and our valuation, then we'll walk away and we'll go again. But losing Souttar was a huge blow to us and we certainly need someone in that position to fill that gap.”
