Gary Neville branded Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall ‘pathetic’ during Spurs’ Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield.

Tottenham were hoping to spoil Liverpool’s title party on Sunday and made an excellent start, taking an early lead through Dominic Solanke’s bullet header.

But it took Arne Slot’s side, who need a point to clinch a 20th English league title, just four minutes to equalise, Luis Diaz with the goal.

Liverpool took the lead midway through the first half through an Alexis Mac Allister screamer before Cody Gakpo added a third to put the hosts in complete control.

Neville was left unimpressed by Spurs midfielder Bergvall’s efforts for Liverpool’s third as he failed to deal with a corner while defending the front post.

The Sweden international was only able to flick his header into the danger area and Gakpo was on hand to rifle home.

‘Bergvall’s header is appalling, it’s pathetic,’ Neville said on Sky Sports commentary. ‘He half ducks his head.

‘I have no idea what he’s doing. It was a free header and he ended up glancing it into his own box.

‘But take nothing away from Gakpo, what he does really well is get it away so quickly. It’s a good strike.

‘Spurs are the perfect opponents for Liverpool today. They just don’t smell danger.

‘Liverpool have got so many players out there who will punish any mistake at any level.’
