Tottenham Hotspur legend, Glenn Hoddle, has named who he thinks has been the club’s best player this season and apparently it is not even close.

Tottenham’s star player

Dejan Kulusevski has had to work hard to silence his critics this season. He took the Premier League by storm when he arrived from Juventus almost three years ago, with five goals and eight assists in only 18 appearances (14 starts).

However, not everything went to plan for the Swedish international this then. Kulusevski offered fewer goal contributions and looked a bit sluggish and predictable on the right wing over the past two seasons until Ange Postecoglou made a big switch this year.

This season Kulusevski has made much more of an impact, showcasing his creative qualities, attacking threat and skilful dribbling, playing in a more central role which suits him well. But it seems he can still be just as productive in certain games on the right side, as evidenced by his Man City masterclass.

Dejan Kulusevski is currently Tottenham’s best player

One former Spurs man to be impressed with how much Kulusevski has improved this season is Glenn Hoddle, who said the 24-year-old had his best-ever game for Spurs a month ago after the 4-1 win over West Ham.

The Swede might have actually eclipsed that performance on Saturday though, masterminding Tottenham’s 4-0 demolition of Man City away to the Etihad.

Hoddle has gone a step further and claimed that not only is Kulusevski playing his best football at Spurs, but he is outperforming his teammates.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking on the talkSPORT breakfast show, he said: “He’s come alive. If you said to me who is the best player at Tottenham this season so far, it’s Kulusevski by a mile. He loves it in that position [attacking midfield]. I think he had a spell there with Juventus.”

Kulusevski has benefited from his new position

It is hard to argue that Hoddle is wrong in selecting Kulusevski as Tottenham’s best player so far this season. Having just bagged two goals and an assist on international duty, he looked full of confidence against Man City, producing yet another assist to get Spurs going.

Moving into midfield has definitely helped him, as despite playing more games on the wing, Kulusevski has 31 career goals in midfield, compared with 19 on the wing, and a similar number of assists in both positions. Even when he started on the wing against Man City, he still did a lot of his good work while drifting inside off the right flank.
