Amanda Staveley left Newcastle United this summer after nearly three years in charge - but it’s fair to say she’s not forgotten the club, nor have the supporters forgotten her.

Along with husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi, Staveley was a popular face and figurehead of the Saudi majority takeover of the football club, which was completed in October 2021.

Staveley was a director at St James’ Park until she departed in a hierarchy rejig this summer, which also saw her company, PCP Capital Partners, sell its near 6% remaining stake in Newcastle.

She was this week replaced by Roger Thornton on the Magpies’ board. Thornton, born in South Shields, has joined the club’s board of directors amid close links to Magpies’ co-owner Jamie Reuben. He has previously played a key role in recent developments in Newcastle city centre as well supporting property matters at Newcastle Racecourse, which is owned by Reuben.

His grandfather helped relaunch the Newcastle United Development Association in the mid-1960 and played a key role in supporting ground improvements at St. James' Park over many years.

However, it’s hard to replace Staveley in the eyes of the fans, who still have HUGE soft spot for the financier. And it appears, despite her exit, she still has a soft spot for the Toon, even though she constantly gets linked with a deal to buy into Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Taking to her Instagram, Staveley posted a reel of her dog, Milo, sporting a brand new Barbour jumper, sitting on a Newcastle United blanket.

The caption read: “Milo is loving his @barbour jumper and @nufc blanket keeping him snug this winter 🐶.”

And fans reacted to the cute post with a whole lot of love for Staveley.
