Mathys Tel is seemingly on his way to Tottenham.

The Bayern Munich No.39 has suddenly changed his mind about a move to Spurs – and now seems set to team up with Ange Postecoglou on loan.

Tel is on a plane to England to sign for Tottenham – in a deal which is expected to simply be a dry loan with no option or obligation for Spurs to sign the Frenchman permanently.

Now – however – Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe has shared an interesting new detail about Mathys Tel.

Tottenham are trying to negotiate a purchase option for Mathys Tel

The reliable Spurs insider has now claimed on X (previously known as Twitter) that Tottenham are trying to get Bayern Munich to agree to a purchase option during negotiations with the German giants.

When asked if there would be an obligation to buy involved in the loan deal, O’Keefe wrote: “Could be a loan but Spurs pushing for an option.”

That should come as an exciting update for Tottenham fans for obvious reasons.

Mainly, if the precociously talented Tel – who some liken to Thierry Henry – thrives in the Premier League, Bayern Munich would presumably either look to reintegrate him at the Allianz Arena, or host an auction to sell this summer, which could spark a bidding war and possibly see Spurs miss out.

However, if Tottenham can shake hands on a fixed purchase option fee now, it protects Postecoglou from this realistic situation occurring, and makes any drastic rise in Tel’s value irrelevant to Spurs between now and the end of the season.

Bayern Munich and Tottenham have already agreed a fee for Mathys Tel

Before Tel himself rejected Tottenham last week, Bayern Munich and Spurs agreed a €60m (£50m) fee over a permanent sale.

The 19-year-old has, of course, now changed his mind and agreed to join Tottenham on loan, but his hesitation over the initial agreement would suggest he personally may not be too keen on Spurs having an option to buy him this summer.
