Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has been linked with a move for the club this summer.

The 25-year-old has struggled for regular game time at the North London club and he needs to leave the club in order to play regularly.

He has been linked with Italian giants AC Milan in recent weeks, and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can iron out an agreement.

The Brazilian defender has now revealed in an interview that he wants to leave Tottenham this summer and he wants to play regularly. He has also informed Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou of his desire.

“I’ve always made it clear. Every player likes to play. I’m very competitive. It bothers me a lot to be on the bench,” he said via Globo Esporte.

“I was upset and said so to the coach. But I’ve always been very professional. I’ve always been one of those who put the most intensity into training, but this situation doesn’t work for me, so I don’t know what my future will be.

“I’m not a player who sits on the bench. I want to play. If it’s not here, I understand. But let me go somewhere where I can play.”

“But I understand that those who don’t play for the club rarely play for the national team. So, I have to look for new opportunities or, if I stay at Tottenham, have a good offer to play. Let’s see what’s best for me and for everyone else.”

Milan are looking to add more quality and depth through their defensive unit and the 25-year-old could prove to be the ideal acquisition. He is capable of operating operating as the right back as well as the left back. His versatility will be an added bonus. He has shown his quality in La Liga and the Premier league. There is no doubt that he is good enough for Serie A as well.

Emerson will be hoping to play regularly for his country in the coming months and he needs to be a regular starter at the club level. Leaving Tottenham would be ideal for him at this stage of his career. The North London club already have Pedro Porro as their starting right back and they are yet to sell Djed Spence permanently. Therefore, cashing in on Emerson would be a wise decision.

Tottenham need to improve the other areas of their squad and selling the 25-year-old would help recoup some funds.
