Manchester United are back in action this weekend with a home clash against Brighton and Hove Albion. The Red Devils are currently sat in 12th place in the Premier League table.

Ruben Amorim’s side beat Southampton 3-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday night. Amad Diallo scored a hat-trick against the Saints.

Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho eyed by Chelsea

United winger Alejandro Garnacho is a player of ‘interest’ to Chelsea this winter along with Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens, according to The Mirror. The Red Devils have a big decision to make regarding the future of the 20-year-old and he has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, as per Football Transfers.

Garnacho, who is 20-years-old, has been in and out of the team since Amorim took over. It remains to be seen whether he is a player firmly in his manager’s long-term plans.

The youngster was on the books at Getafe and Atletico Madrid before moving to England in 2020. He has since broken into the first-team.

He has made 117 appearances in all competitions for his current club in all competitions and has scored 23 goals, eight of which have come in this campaign. His contract expires in 2028.

After penning his last extension in 2023, he said: “When I joined this incredible club, I dreamt of achieving my debut, playing at Old Trafford, scoring my first goal and winning trophies with this badge on my chest.

“I feel very proud and emotional to have experienced these moments already, together with my family who have supported me every step of the way.

“We are all humbled to have this chance to continue our journey at Manchester United and I have already begun to work on achieving the next set of targets and ambitions. “The manager and his coaching staff have helped me to improve in every way, and with their support, I am developing each day to help the team to be successful.

“I am relishing the future and can’t wait to create more special memories with this group, in front of our amazing supporters.”

What next for Manchester United?

United will be looking to build some momentum now after beating Southampton. They are still too far down the table by their standards.

Speaking after their victory over the Saints, Amorim said: "It was not a great match from our side. We had some problems, especially with balls between the lines, and did not have the connections we're supposed to have in the game. It was, more or less, system versus system with a lot of duels. The speed from [Kamaldeen] Sulemana, who was really hard to catch, and they created some chances.

“We improved in the second half and, in the final 30 minutes, I felt Southampton were very tired, with the pressure we created. They lost some strength because they were going man-to-man during the pressure. They lose some power and the most important thing in this moment is to win and we did it. I had a feeling it was going to be hard but, in the end, I think we deserved the win."
