Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro is reportedly attracting interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United with Spurs expecting bids for the full-back in the near future.
Porro has been in demand since the summer when both Real Madrid and Manchester City began showing interest in the 25-year-old. Madrid identified the defender as an alternative target to Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold who is their first choice at the position.
Whereas, Manchester City want to sign Porro as concerns are growing over the likes of Kyle Walker who is now 34 years old and so Pep Guardiola has identified the Spurs man as a replacement for the England international. The two teams will meet this weekend on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium. According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Manchester United are considering a serious push to sign the defender who used to play under new manager Ruben Amorim at Sporting CP.
The report says that the right-back’s representatives are expecting an approach from United who could begin to play with wing-backs under Ruben Amorim who likes to play a 3-4-3 formation, which would suit Porro’s attacking ability. Porro has been at Spurs since January 2023 when he joined on loan before they made him a permanent player in July 2023 for a fee of £33m. He has since made 67 appearances for Spurs, scoring eight goals and 12 assists.
Tottenham reluctant to let Porro leave
The reports suggest that Spurs aren’t keen on selling Porro as they aim to keep him in North London for an extended period of time. He is contracted at Spurs until June 2028 and so they have set a hefty price tag of £58m for his signature.
With the January transfer window approaching, Spurs will be desperate to keep hold of Porro, but will the draw of top European clubs such as Real Madrid be enough to tempt the Spanish international away.
Much of the speculation over a move to Real Madrid depends on the La Liga club’s pursuit of Trent Alexander-Arnold who could decide to sign a new contract at Liverpool which would force Madrid to turn their attention to Porro.
