Manchester United fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Everton at Goodison Park this weekend. Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte got their goals.
The Red Devils are sat in 15th place in the Premier League table. They have 12 fixtures left to play this season as they look to rise up the league.
United are back in action on Wednesday against Ipswich Town at home. Their upcoming opponents are in the drop zone along with Southampton and Leicester City.
Manchester United eye Son Heung-min
According to Fichajes, United are showing ‘interest’ in a surprise move for Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min for the summer. The winger’s contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium expires in 2026 and his long-term future is up in the air.
Son, 32, has been with Spurs since 2015 and has been a great servant to the London club over the last decade. Prior to his move to England, he played in Germany for Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen.
The Red Devils could see him as someone to boost their attacking ranks ahead of the next campaign. They coud do with injecting some more quality into their squad.
Son has made 443 appearances in all competitions for Spurs to date and has scored 172 goals, 10 of which have come this term. They would have a decision to make on what to do with him if an offer came in from United, or another potential suitor.
They risk losing him for nothing next year if they don’t cash in on him in the meantime. It remains to be seen at this stage whether he will pen an extension anytime soon.
What now for Manchester United?
United showed good character to get back into the game against Everton. The first half wasn’t good enough again though and they need to tighten up in defence.
Speaking afterwards, Ruben Amorim said: “We managed to recover second half. But we didn’t exist in the first half, so the feeling is disappointed. Not with the point, not with the recovery, but we need to play both halves to compete in the best way because at this moment we need to win.”
In terms of what he said at half-time, the boss said: “I just said we are going to play the same way, because during the week I saw a different thing. We are going to do the same thing, no matter what the result [is]. It’s more [about] belief and then [about having] the quality in the small things. Like control the ball because men were free. Everybody knew because we watch the games of Everton, we worked during the week and we proved that in the second half.”
The Red Devils’ head coach is now targeting three points against Ipswich: “We need to win. It’s a different game, we proved that we can make a very good game but then in the next game we have the momentum but don’t show the best way [to play] the game. So, what we need to is work during the week and do in the game what we work [on] in the week.”
