Millwall have been touted to make a Deadline Day swoop for Tottenham Hotspur talent Tyrese Hall today as the club looks to reinvest the money made on Romain Esse.

The 19-year-old completed the switch to Selhurst Park earlier this month, and scored on his debut against Brentford in a 2-1 defeat, with the Lions charging the Premier League club £14.5 million. Speaking after the win over Championship rivals QPR on Saturday, Millwall boss Alex Neil admitted that the plan was always to invest this month following Esse's departure.

Neil told reporters at his post-match press conference: “This was always the plan. People are acting like they are surprised. Everybody I talk to seems to say ‘what is going on’.

“The plan when I came in was that if someone was going to come in and buy Romain then we were going to try and invest in some younger players, try to develop the style and try to make us more threatening and try to score more goals – as well as trying to bring some young lads in and try to create some assets.

“The plan was always there. It’s just at the moment that the plan is working really quite well. I’m not daft, I know in two weeks it might not be working quite so well because that is the nature of football and this league.

“We are going to certainly enjoy it when we’re doing what we’re doing. The lads deserve huge amounts of credit, as does the club for wanting to invest and improve the squad. I would think being a Millwall fan right now is quite exciting.”

Millwall linked with rising Tottenham Hotspur star

Those comments came after the club signed Sparta Rotterdam winger Camiel Neghli for a reported record-breaking £2.8 million. It seems as if Neghli may not be the only addition made before the end of the window.

Today, Sky Sports are reporting of Millwall interest in Tottenham Hotspur 19-year-old Tyrese Hall. The Lions are said to have 'held talks' with Spurs over a potential move for the player, which could either be as a loan or a permanent transfer - although The Mirror reporter Dan Marsh has put some questions over those links since they broke.

The teenager signed a new contract in North London last summer, set to stay until 2029, but has found a first team breakthrough hard to force this term despite the club's well-documented injury woes. Hall has been given huge praise by Spurs and West Ham legend Jermaine Defoe in recent weeks.

Jermaine Defoe labels Millwall target an ‘unbelievable footballer’

The former striker has worked with the player at under-18 level and has tipped him for a bright future. In an interview with Sky Sports, Defoe was asked to pick young players football fans should be watching, and said: "The first one is a player that I coached at Tottenham for two years in the academy. I'd go as far as saying he's probably one of the best players at his age that I have seen in the country.

"I remember we played a game last year, I think it was against Chelsea, and his performance was unbelievable. It was a standout performance, probably his best of the season in a big game. I think we ended up winning 3-2 after being 2-0 down. It was a masterclass, and the player's name is Tyrese Hall.

"He's someone who I believe is a Premier League footballer. I know it's a big statement but when I first saw him I thought, 'you know what, I believe, god-willing, that he is someone that go on and play at the top, top level.'

"(He is) an unbelievable footballer, with so much potential. He reminds me a little bit, technically, and how he is so silky, again another big statement, of that Luka Modric sort of vibe and Joe Cole. A phenomenal talent."
