Haringey takes part for the first time in five years with the official float co-sponsored by Tottenham Hotspur Academy.

The float also features Caribbean sounds from Pan Nation Steel Orchestra, modern dance from Streetz Ahead and members of Borough of Basketball.

The delegation is led by the Mayor Sue Jameson in her robes made for the parade by members of the Quilt Club as part of the Haringey Feast legacy project.

“We’re planning an absolutely breathtaking float,” the mayor promised. “It’s fitting, given that we are approaching our 60th anniversary as a London borough in 2025. I can’t think of a better way to start the New Year.”

The float is sponsored by Spurs and by Medchem Pharmacy in Green Lanes.

Haringey is one of 15 London boroughs taking part in the January 1 parade being televised for half-a-billion viewers worldwide. It starts in Piccadilly at 12 noon, passing Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Horseguard’s Parade, Downing Street and the Houses of Parliament.

The best float gets a slice of the £50,000 charity pot. The annual parade attracting half-a-million spectators has raised more than £2 million for London charities since it began in 1987.
