Staveley set to leave board of directors

Newcastle United co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi are to leave the club after three years at St James’ Park.

The husband and wife were key figures as the club were taken over by the PIF of Saudi Arabia in 2021.

The duo bought a 10 per cent stake in the club as the club was bought from Mike Ashley, but that has reduced over the years. Staveley and Ghoudoussi currently own a 6 per cent shareholding of the club.

Staveley was at the helm as Newcastle returned to the Champions League after a 20 year absence, and led them to a Cup final at Wembley.

PIF are expected to purchase their 6 per cent shareholding in the club.

'He comes with a glowing CV' | Mitchell appointed as Newcastle sporting director

Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie sheds light on Newcastle United's new sporting director appointment of Paul Mitchell who replaces Dan Ashworth after his move over to Manchester United.

Mitchell appointed Newcastle sporting director

Newcastle have announced the appointment of Paul Mitchell as Dan Ashworth’s successor as sporting director.

Mitchell arrives after previous roles in scouting and club development at Southampton, Tottenham, RB Leipzig and Monaco.

He takes over from Ashworth, whose departure to Manchester United was finally confirmed earlier this week after months of negotiations.

Newcastle chief executive Darren Eales said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul to Newcastle United. He brings a successful track record and wealth of experience to the club.

“His extensive and diverse experience in football leadership, cultural change and recruitment mean he is the ideal person to lead our sporting directorate.

“We look forward to working with Paul and supporting him in our pursuit of long-term, sustainable success.”

Mitchell, 42, played professionally with clubs including Wigan and MK Dons before his career was cut short by injury and he moved into off-field roles.

He later joined the Red Bull group, spending time with Leipzig and New York before being appointed as Monaco sporting director in 2020. He has previously been linked with both Liverpool and Manchester United.

Mitchell said: “It’s with immense pride that I accept the responsibility of being Newcastle United’s new sporting director.

“I’ve seen the recent growth and ambition of the club. This, plus the amazing fanbase, made the decision to join an easy one.

“I can’t wait to get started and help continue the organisation’s growth and long-term competitiveness in all areas of elite football performance.”

Lewis Miley could be ruled out until October after suffering a foot injury in training, according to The Athletic.

The 18-year-old Newcastle academy graduate, who had a breakthrough campaign in 2023/24, missed the final two months of last season with a back injury.

Miley is believed to have broken his metatarsal while running at Newcastle's training ground in his bid to regain fitness for the upcoming season. He had been aiming to participate in pre-season training, scheduled to commence at the end of next week.

The midfielder is expected to undergo an operation next week.

Newcastle accept Forest bid for Anderson

Latest from Sky Sports News' Keith Downie:

Newcastle have accepted an offer in the region of £35m from Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson.

The deal is a straight sale to Forest, with Anthony Elanga not going in the other direction.

This deal will satisfy Newcastle's PSR issues this month.

Although Anderson did not want to leave his boyhood club, the personal terms were attractive for the midfielder and he knows Forest are now an established Premier League club.

The Daily Mail report that Newcastle and Lyon had agreed a £40m deal for the Minteh, who spent last season on loan at Feyenoord.

But personal terms have hit a block with the 19-year-old refusing to join the Ligue 1 side as he is determined to stay in the Premier League and join Everton.
