Tottenham 0-0 Aston Villa

Rodrigo Bentancur comes close!

Tottenham are building some momentum now as they have controlled the last few minutes.

Aston Villa just can't get out and it's been all Spurs.

After a spell of possession, the ball comes to Bentancur in space and he shoots from distance...

But the whipped effort goes just over the bar and clips the roof of the net as it flies over!

It's wave after wave of Tottenham attack at the moment.

Tottenham 0-0 Aston Villa

It's been an even affair so far.

After a slow start, Spurs have enjoyed some more possession, with their press from the front preventing Villa from getting out.

Dominic Solanke's header flew well over the bar a moment ago as he got on the end of a fast-paced free-kick from Heung-min Son.

That's the host's only real chance so far though, and it would have been impressive if he hit the target.

Neither side are playing at a very high tempo and that is impacting the atmosphere as things are very quiet.

Tottenham 0-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa have started the brightest in north London.

Morgan Rogers blazed an effort over before Ollie Watkins was inches away from a dangerous cross into the box.

Unai Emery's side look confident on the ball and haven't given Tottenham much in the opening 10 minutes.

Matty Cash has been the recipient of some strong tackles early on, with Spurs seemingly not forgetting his past here.

The Villa right-back injured Rodrigo Bentancur in a previous meeting and he's being booed every time he touches the ball today.

Kick-off!

We're underway at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham can rise up to seventh in the table with a win and prove they have the character to bounce back from a shock loss.

But Aston Villa are loving their football and they have won three of their last four games away at Spurs.

It's set to be a thriller and we could see plenty of goals, so stick with us for regular updates!

Here's a reminder of how the two teams line up...

Safe for now

talkSPORT understands Julen Lopetegui retains the immediate backing of the West Ham board.

However, they are aware the Hammers' results need to improve.

Lopetegui has not made a great start to life back in the Premier League, losing five of his opening 10 games in charge.

A 3-0 embarrassment against Nottingham Forest yesterday has now piled huge pressure onto the Spanish boss.

West Ham spent over £100m on signings in the summer, but they are yet to see any signs of success under Lopetegui.

They face Everton at the London Stadium next week, in their final game before the November international break.

The manager still has the support of the board as mentioned, however, another loss could change that stance...

'Fans are fans'

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has addressed some frustration from supporters ahead of today's game.

Spurs currently sit 10th in the Premier League after nine games, winning three and losing three of their last six.

A 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace last week led to some criticism of his side, but Postecoglou has urged fans to understand that it won't be a 'smooth ride'.

"I keep saying this, fans are fans," he said. "There isn't a fan around the world who doesn't want their team to always be playing well.

"What we have to do, before the game and after the game is stay really focused on continuing to evolve into the team we want to be.

"At the moment, in the league, we have had some disappointing results but really only one disappointing performance and that was the Palace game. It wasn't a great performance, and we got what we deserved.

"We have to focus on that we continue to evolve, and learn from that, when we have had disappointments, we bounce back straight away which I think is important it is part of the evolution of the team.

"It is not going to be a smooth ride but within that, we don't want there to be too many times when we are not playing the football we want to."

Team news!

James Maddison has been dropped for Tottenham!

The midfielder is on the bench alongside Yves Bissouma with both losing their place following defeat to Crystal Palace last week.

Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur come into the side while captain Heung-min Son returns out wide.

The injured Micky van de Ven doesn't feature, so it's Radu Dragusin slotting in next to Cristian Romero.

As for Aston Villa, Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers are back in the line-up after missing the Carabao Cup game in midweek.

John McGinn is the only player to retain his place in the team following that loss, with Unai Emery making 10 changes.

It's the same team that started their last league game though.

Tottenham XI: Vicario, Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Udogie, Bentancur, Kulusevski, Sarr, Johnson, Son, Solanke.

Subs: Forster, Davies, Gray, Bissouma, Bergvall, Maddison, Moore, Werner, Richarlison.

Aston Villa XI: Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne, Onana, Tielemans, McGinn, Ramsey, Rogers, Watkins.

Subs: Olsen, Maatsen, Carlos, Mings, Kamara, Philogene, Buendia, Bailey, Duran.

How things stand

Liverpool are the new Premier League leaders after both Arsenal and Manchester City slipped up yesterday.

Life under Arne Slot could hardly have started any better and with eight wins from 10 games the Reds are sitting pretty.

A shock inclusion in the top four is Nottingham Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side have only lost one of their opening 10 and after beating West Ham, they're flying.

Chelsea can move above them today though, as Enzo Maresca takes on Ruud van Nistelrooy who will be on the touchline as Manchester United manager for the first time in the top flight.

Here's today's schedule:

Tottenham vs Aston Villa - 2pm

Manchester United vs Chelsea - 4:30pm

Team news for the opening clash of the day at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be up next...

Staying positive

Arsenal defender William Saliba has tried to remain positive after a loss to Newcastle yesterday afternoon.

The Gunners dropped seven points off the top of the Premier League table with the defeat and their title chances took a huge blow.

"We are a bit sad because we wanted to win here today," Saliba admitted post-match.

"Unfortunately we didn't because I don't think we played our best game. But we have to stick together and be ready for next week.

"Maybe we deserved a point, but I do not think we deserved to win today.

"They had one chance and they scored. We were on top trying to equalise, but I think we have to do better.

"The game is finished and we have to be focused on what's coming.

"When you lose, there's not a lot of positive things, but it's okay, we don't have to be so sad."

Not Palming off

Cole Palmer must get used to being targeted by opposition tactics as his reputation as a matchwinner grows, according to Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca.

The 22-year-old has scored 32 goals since arriving at Stamford Bridge at the start of last season and is the creative heartbeat of Maresca's impressive young side.

Chelsea travel to Old Trafford on Sunday to face a Manchester United side under the leadership of interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, who deployed two holding midfielders in the 5-2 Carabao Cup win over Leicester on Wednesday.

It was suggested to Maresca the move could have been in preparation for stymying Palmer when the teams meet in United's first Premier League outing since the sacking of Erik ten Hag.

"I'm ready for that," he said. "Cole, I don't know whether he's ready, you'll have to ask him.

"The next step for Cole is not to get frustrated when teams mark him man-to-man, because all the best players in the world are marked man-to-man.

"After last season, the first after arriving at Chelsea, it was the opposite, teams were not so worried about Cole.

"But this year they are worried so he has to start getting used to being marked man-to-man. The next step for him is knowing it will be more difficult."

Latest

Liverpool boss Arne Slot admits he doesn't know the severity of Ibrahima Konate's injury sustained during Liverpool's win over Brighton.

After the half-time whistle was blown at Anfield, Konate looked in huge discomfort as members of Liverpool's medical staff gave him some treatment.

As the French defender trudged off he was seen using the bottom of his shirt as a sling for his left arm.

The injury was caused by him slipping over and landing awkwardly when attacking a corner Liverpool had.

Joe Gomez was brought on as Konate's replacement at the start of the second half.

When asked about Konate's problem, Slot didn't give a lot away but said the player had not gone to hospital.

"Lot of pain at half time, disappointment he had to go off. Good thing is I have two very good options in Jarell Quansah and Gomez," Slot said in his post-match press conference.

"Quansah was tired at the end of [Carabao Cup tie against] Brighton, felt I had to bring in someone fitter than Jarell was. Konate? Don't know yet, not been hospital yet."

Guehi proud of Palace 'never say die attitude'

Marc Guehi has praised his Crystal Palace side for their resilience against Wolves.

Palace found themselves 2-1 down on Saturday but the defender scored in the 77th minute to salvage a crucial point on the road.

When asked on Sky Sports if he was shocked to see Palace losing after conceding two goals in five minutes before his equaliser, he said: "Not really.

"Wolves are really good, a really good side. I think they, especially in the last 15 minutes of games or so, they're really strong, they keep going.

"But I think the mentality and the character of the team is just to keep going, keep going until the end, that never say die attitude.

"We showed that today and I think it's important that we carry that on throughout the rest of the season."

FULL TIME! Wolves 2-2 Crystal Palace

It ends all square.

A very entertaining second half saw four goals scored with a point being shared in a result that neither side will be happy with.

Palace took the lead on the hour through Trevoh Chalobah's opener but 12 minutes later the hosts were ahead.

A slick finish by Jorgen Strand Larsen levelled the game before a clever finish by Joao Gomes made it 2-1 on 72 minutes.

But Oliver Glasner's men came back five minutes later through Marc Guehi's finish from close range following a corner.

Palace are two points above the relegation zone, while Wolves' wait for a first league win of the season goes on.

GOALS Wolves 2-1 Crystal Palace - Jorgen Strand Larsen and Joao Gomes

WHAT A TURNAROUND!

In the space of 12 second-half minutes Wolves have gone from 1-0 down to 2-1 up.

After Trevoh Chalobah put the away side in front on the hour Wolves hit back through Jorgen Strand Larsen's equaliser.

Larsen's composed finish came when Matheus Cunha played a simple pass to him.

And the hosts are now ahead through Gomes' first Premier League goal, the midfielder firing home into the near post after receiving the ball from Goncalo Guedes from the right.

What a massive three points this could be for Wolves.

Cryptic

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak made it three goals in a week with a thunderous header from an Anthony Gordon cross against Arsenal to seal a big 1-0 win for the Toon.

The Swedish striker is the last of Newcastle's prized assets to sign a new deal.

Bruno Guimaraes and Gordon have both committed their future to the Magpies, but Isak is yet to.

There have been reports suggesting that the forward isn't keen to sign a new deal because he wants to play Champions League football.

Newcastle haven't started the season brilliantly, but that win today could transform their season.

However, when asked about his contract by talkSPORT'S Sam Matterface, he swerved the question.

He said: "I am enjoying myself, as I've always said.

"It's a great place, and all I am thinking about is doing good for the team.

"Keep winning and keep scoring."

Certainly, that's not the answer Newcastle fans wanted to hear.

NO GOAL! Southampton 1-0 Everton - VAR deny Everton

Everton have the ball in the back of the net through Beto.

But after a long, and I mean LONG, VAR check, it's ruled out by the narrowest of offside calls.

It's a cruel blow for the Toffees who thought they had equalised immediately with just a few minutes left to play.

But it's not to be.
