Tottenham Hotspur have just days to prepare for a return to Premier League action but Ange Postecoglou will be delighted to only be making a short trip across London this weekend to take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Spurs are without a league win since the 5-0 triumph over Southampton in the middle of December. That victory is the only time that Postecoglou's side have picked up three points in the league over their last 11 outings amid a disappointing run of form.

The North London outfit now sit 15th in the league table, four places and seven points below the Bees. Brentford picked up only a second away win of the season against Crystal Palace last time out with a 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park.

Transfer speculation to loom large over Brentford v Tottenham Hotspur

Transfer speculation surrounds both sides ahead of the meeting on Sunday. Tottenham Hotspur are said to be edging closer to the signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, although Manchester United could be lurking in wait for a potential hijack.

Meanwhile, the hosts could fear losing Yoane Wissa with Nottingham Forest linked, alongside Spurs themselves. The striker seemed to hint at a potential exit when speaking on French TV this week.

All eyes will be focused on the action on the pitch this weekend and the Premier League has confirmed who will be overseeing the fixture at the Gtech Community Stadium. Australian official Jarred Gillett will referee the match.

Gillett's last refereeing duty was a match with six goals in the Championship meeting between West Brom and Portsmouth last weekend. Before that, he referees Aston Villa's 2-1 win over Leicester City this month.

Gillett was last in charge of a Tottenham Hotspur match for the North London derby against Arsenal in September, which finished 1-0 to the Gunners. His last Brentford match was the Bees' 5-1 win over Luton Town last April. Gillett has refereed 10 games this season, showing 44 yellow cards and one red.

Elsewhere on the officials, Darren Cann and Mark Scholes are the assistant referees. John Busby is the Fourth Official and Graham Scott is in charge of VAR.

Thomas Frank aware of Spurs injury woes

Speaking ahead of the clash with Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford manager Thomas Frank said: We were also hit very hard by injuries last year so, from that perspective, I understand the situation Ange is in now at Tottenham. When results are also not going your way, that's tough. They're things we need to deal with as managers and I'm convinced that Ange is doing that well and he will get through it.

"He doesn't need advice, but he just needs to trust his own processes and trust what he believes in, which he does - that's the main thing.

"When we played Tottenham away earlier this season, we played a very, very good Tottenham team - I thought they were flying. When they hit their high level, they are very hard to play against. I expect a game between two games that want to attack, so it could be open at times. We need to be the team that controls an open game, which is difficult."

In other news, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were landed a transfer blow by QPR this week as the Championship club agreed a new deal with a rising academy star.
