Tottenham may have a decision to make this summer with one of their up and coming young stars. Ange Postecoglou - or whoever is in charge - will have some tough decisions to make in general, with the squad in need of reshaping.

Spurs have come up way short this season, currently in the bottom half and with their only avenue to European qualification an unlikely one - the North London club being required to win the Europa League.

A big decision faces the Tottenham board as they weigh up whether or not to keep Postecoglou, who has been hard done by this season, facing a plague of injuries, but on the other hand, he has also failed to find solutions, which is ultimately his job.

Whether Spurs keep Postecoglou or not, the board are going to have to back whoever is in charge, with significant improvement needed in the current squad, and depth is an even greater need, as has been proven by the never-ending stream of injuries the squad has been through this season.

One player who faces an intriguing immediate future is Mikey Moore. The 17-year-old has a big future ahead of him, something everyone agrees upon, but while he has looked dangerous at senior level, it doesn’t mean he is guaranteed regular appearances, with more experienced and - at this stage at least - better players ahead of him.

That could lead Spurs to loan Moore out next season so that he can continue his development with more regular game time, at least if pre-season shows Postecoglou or whoever is in charge that he is not quite ready to be a first team regular.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson has had his say on the situation, and he told Tottenham News: “There’s an option [to go on loan] for him. How much is he going to be used next year? What type of development is the player going to have? And is it going to hamper his development by not playing every week? Or is the player going to be better sent out on loan, being a part of a first-team squad, playing every week?

“There are different characters. He strikes me as the type of character who would absolutely relish going out on loan, being the main man somewhere, scoring the goals, and coming back after a season on loan. For me, looking at him, if he’s not going to be part of the first team next year on a regular basis, he’ll be in the squad, but actually 10 minutes off the bench here and there, hopefully maybe some European football, is not going to be enough for him. I think going out on loan will be better.”

Postecoglou said of Moore earlier in the season: “He was exciting, you cannot deny it. There is no point denying it. I love the way Mikey is taking it all in his stride, he works hard every day. He wants to develop, he understands that this is a journey. It’s very easy for a young guy like him, who has just turned 17, to feel like he has somehow made it, but you never get that sense.

“It’s exciting. You have got such a young player, who wants that responsibility to make an impact, rather than just sometimes with young players they are a bit worried about making mistakes. He is developing well. We have to be really careful about how we use him, and when we use him, that is the key for us, particularly in these early stages.”
