Injuries have forced Los Blancos to look for a centre-back.

In an attempt to strengthen their defence, Real Madrid are considering a move for Micky van de Ven, a sensation for Tottenham Hotspur.

This summer, Los Blancos added two important players to their attack: Endrick from Palmeiras and Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain. However, the team did not add any new players to their defence.

Leny Yoro, a promising French defender, was their target, but the centre-back decided to sign with Manchester United instead.

Eder Militao joined David Alaba in hospital bed last month, adding to Carlo Ancelotti‘s team’s defensive problems. They have already given up 29 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions in the 2024–25 season. Although the Brazilian will be sidelined for the rest of the campaign due to an ACL tear, Alaba is unlikely to make a comeback before the end of January.

According to Relevo, the Spanish champions have compiled a shortlist of defenders, and Micky van de Ven of Tottenham is the top target for the team. The 23-year-old Dutch defender, who plays on the left side of the backline, is projected to succeed Militao exactly and will fit right in with the team. Josko Gvardiol of Manchester City and Croatia, and Castello Lukeba of RB Leipzig are among the other targets.

Madrid might have to hunt somewhere for a new defender because Van de Ven has a contract that expires in 2029 and Tottenham have no plans whatsoever of moving him in January.

In light of this, it would be shocking if Tottenham parted ways with any of its defenders in January since they want to expand their centre-back choices rather than reduce them.
