Real Madrid are looking to bolster at right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold their top target but Pedro Porro is on their radar

La Liga club Real Madrid have reportedly identified Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro as an alternative to Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. Real Madrid’s main target for the right-back position is the Liverpool full-back, but if they are unsuccessful in signing him, Porro is one of their other options.

Alexander-Arnold is in the last year of his Liverpool contract, and there is speculation as to whether the Reds will extend his deal. If not, Madrid would be able to swoop in for the England international in June 2025 when he could become a free agent. The Liverpool defender is Real Madrid’s top priority candidate according to the Athletic. However, if they can’t land the Liverpool defender, then Spurs man Porro could become the priority target with an estimated value of around £35m-£40m.

Real Madrid’s other alternative targets

Carlo Ancelotti’s side haven’t just expressed their interest in Porro and Trent, but they also see Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as a target. Furthermore, they are also keen on 21-year-old Spanish prodigy Juanlu who is currently at Sevilla. Out of the four Real Madrid targets, Pedro Porro has played for the most teams in his career notably Sporting CP, Spurs and Girona to name a few.

However, he doesn’t have the most experience as Trent Alexander-Arnold has made more career appearances (338) and provided more assists (87). But, Porro has a slightly better goalscoring record in his career considering that he has played in fewer games and scored 24 career goals compared to Alexander-Arnold’s 23. The 25-year-old has become one of the better right-backs in Spurs’ history and a mainstay in Ange Postecoglu’s starting XI.

So far this season, Porro has made eight appearances, scoring one goal in the Premier League which came in Spurs’ 1-1 draw against Leicester City on the opening weekend of the season.

How much could Pedro Porro leave Tottenham Hotspur for?

The Argentine’s value is estimated to be around £35m-£40m, but the question is, would Spurs want to sell him? The draw of playing for Real Madrid would be tempting for Porro who hasn’t won a trophy in the short amount of time he has been at Spurs. However, seeing as the January transfer window will mark just one year since his arrival in London, a move might be too soon for the defender.

Furthermore, Tottenham signed the 25-year-old to a contract which aims to keep him in North London until June 2028. This would indicate that Ange Postecoglu’s Spurs won’t be keen on allowing Porro to leave in the summer. Tottenham signed the Argentine for £33.4 million from Portuguese club Sporting CP where he had previously spent three seasons. According to CaughtOffside, a fee of around £54 million could be enough to tempt Spurs to sell Porro to Madrid in the summer. However, much of this speculation is said to be forcing Liverpool to make a quick decision on the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
