Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is aiming to kickstart 2025 with a win in this weekend’s test against in-form Newcastle United.

Spurs currently sit 11th in the table and a distant 11 points away from the Champions League places after a challenging phase of the season which has seen the capital side win just one of their last six league matches.

Meanwhile, Newcastle, who beat 2-1 Tottenham earlier in the season in September, find themselves fifth in the table and on the cusp of climbing into the Champions League places after a fruitful December which ended with four consecutive league victories.

Like several other teams, Ange Postecoglou is dealing with a list of injuries. We’ve taken a look at the latest fitness updates and when each player could be back in action for Spurs.

Spurs injury news and return dates

Richarlison - Out

Richarlison has missed the last nine games with a thigh problem and it will still be a little while until he is back in contention to play.

As the Brazilian continues to recover from a hamstring problem, Postecoglou has said they are ‘hopeful he will be back in the New Year’ but they are not putting pressure on the situation.

'Richarlison, hopefully, he'll be back in the New Year but, again, similar to Micky (van de Ven), we've got to be careful every step of the way.' Ange Postecoglou said.

Expected return date: 15th January

Ben Davies - out

Ben Davies was ruled out for an undisclosed period after he was forced off the pitch against Bournemouth last month. The Wales left-back has been nursing a hamstring injury and recently suffered a minor setback in his rehab.

Ange Postecoglou expects the defender to return soon, he told reporters: No, he's ruled out. Unfortunately, he had a setback in training, so he's probably out for another couple of weeks.'

Expected return date: 15th January

Rodrigo Bentancur - suspended

The Uruguay international has accumulated five yellow cards meaning he will miss the Newcastle United clash.

Expected return date: 8th January

Destiny Udogie - out

The Italian international picked up a hamstring injury in the 2-2 draw with Wolves.

'I think it's a hamstring. Again, like I said, we've been relying on a core group of players because we just haven't had the ability to rotate, so at some point, it was going to catch up with us. Unfortunately, it caught up with Destiny.'

Expected return date: unspecified

Wilson Odobert - out

Summer addition Wilson Odobert has had far from the ideal start to life at Tottenham. The young prospect has been injured since September. After undergoing hamstring surgery, the club confirmed he will be out for a period of time to recover, with no set return date in sight yet.

Expected return date: unspecified

Christian Romero - out

Argentina international Christian Romero remains on the sidelines with a thigh problem. No return date has been set.

Expected return date: unspecified

Micky van de Ven - Out

Tottenham’s defence has been decimated by injuries this season and Netherlands international Micky van de Ven is another example of that.

Expected return date: unspecified

When will Guglielmo Vicario return?

Guglielmo Vicario was ruled out for ‘months, not weeks’ after he heroically played an hour of football against Man City with a broken ankle. The Italian shot-stopper has undergone surgery on the problem and is expected to make a return in early March.

“It’s going well. Typical Vic. He’s pushing every boundary. He’s still very much around the group… He’s progressing well,” Postecoglou said at the end of November.
