Tottenham Hotspur could reignite interest in Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani with the sacking of Thiago Motta by Juventus set to play a role in the transfer race.
Spurs and Aston Villa had been linked with the star in January, but the 26-year-old ended up heading on loan to the Italian side from PSG. Since then, Muani has bagged five goals and picked up two assists in 11 appearances as he makes a strong start to life in the Serie A.
However, there has been controversy in Turin with Motta sacked by the club in March. The 42-year-old lasted just nine months at Juventus with back to back thrashings at the hands of Fiorentina and Atalanta the final blow for the manager, who was immediately replaced by Croatian Igor Tudor.
Juventus sacking could ignite Premier League transfer race
All of Muani’s goals for Juventus came in his first three appearances, one against Napoli and two braces against FC Empoli and Como. The striker has not scored since Motta left the club.
Speaking about Muani in February, Motta said: “Kolo Muani is doing well and scoring goals. He can do better. He’s just arrived and needs to keep his feet on the ground. Goals are part of the game. I like seeing him like this, with a smile. He’s integrated very well and is helping like everyone else.”
GiveMeSport reports that Motta’s departure could jeopardise any plans to keep Muani at the club permanently following his loan spell. The outlet adds that Tottenham Hotspur are aware of that situation and monitoring a potential swoop for the star.
Juventus paid a fee of just under £5 million for that short term loan deal but have no option or obligation to turn that temporary switch into a permanent transfer. The report claims that regardless of whether or not Postecoglou remains in his position at the north London club, interest in Muani will remain.
Tottenham Hotspur to make Mathys Tel decision
The Frenchman finished as a World Cup runner up in 2022 and won the Ligue 1 with PSG last season. He’s played 23 times in the Champions League and was signed by PSG from Eintracht Frankfurt for £77 million in 2023.
A move for Muani could depend on the decision the club makes over loanee Mathys Tel, who is spending the back end of the season at Spurs from Bayern Munich. Postecoglou had been adamant that he hoped to make that move permanent but the striker has just one goal in eight appearances for Tottenham Hotspur so far.
As Tel arrived at Tottenham Hotspur, Postecoglou said: "He will play a significant part in our end to the season for sure and beyond. He wants to make an impact and I expect him to do that. He will be a Tottenham player. I think he will show everyone he will be a Tottenham player in the next six months. I didn't bring him here for six months."
