Tottenham Hotspur have recorded back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since September thanks to victories over Leicester City and Manchester United. Next up is a trip to struggling Ipswich Town as Ange Postecoglou looks to make it three in a row.
It's the first sign of any sort of stability at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in months and comes as first team players begin to return to fitness. Wilson Odobert and Brennan Johnson returned from injury against Manchester United and striker Dominic Solanke is set for his comeback at the start of March.
That could leave Postecoglou with somewhat of a selection dilemma - a rarity in a season that has seen him short of options. Spurs captain Son Heung-min has been a constant in the side, only missing three top flight matches this term.
Postecoglou faces big Son call
However, the South Korea international has been far from his most prolific. He has just six Premier League goals this season and has only scored once in 2025.
Speaking on the latest Tottenham Hotspur podcast, NationalWorld's James Trembath has suggested that Postecoglou could look at dropping the player, who has been relentless since arriving at Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen for £22 million in 2015.
Trembath said: "I think that's a really good question [what has happened to Son] and I think you'd have to say on current form, with returning players, his position in the team, all be it he's the captain of the team and the club, might be under a little bit of threat.
"When Dominic Solanke comes back, he'll be the focal point. Does that mean that Mathys Tel moves out onto the left hand side, we've obviously got Wilson Odobert coming back who can play that role, Brennan Johnson on the other side and Kulusevski who can fill in on the flanks. We've got Mikey Moore coming through and he deserves more minutes as he's been pretty good when we've seen him. Lots of options for Postecoglou and big decisions ahead."
To drop Son against Ipswich, following back-to-back wins in which he has started, would be a big decision for Postecoglou. However, it's one that Trembath believes could be justified.
Son could be suffering consequence of ‘jet-setting’ international duties
He continued: "You'd say on current form that Heung-min Son needs a bit of a break, it's a bit of a mystery in terms of his form. There's the obvious fact of the hamstring injury earlier in the season. He scored a couple of goals when he came back against West Ham but then got injured again. Maybe he's carrying a knock?
"You've got to look at the amount of football he plays as well and the jet-setting back over to Korea for the international breaks over a number of years and that really does take its toll on the legs. Maybe that's a factor.
"You've also got to look at his confidence as well. He's missed big chances and just looks devoid of confidence. Whether the leadership is just weighing a little bit heavy on him as well, could that be a factor?
"There's a number of things that it could be. There's no doubting the fact that he's still a world class player - he's shown that in flashes, that he still has all the ability - he can go past a player and has two great feet but we're just missing that explosive Son. The Son that used to cut in from the left hand side and smash the ball into the top corner with his right foot. It just seems to have dropped off ever so slightly."
In other news, Saudi Arabian clubs have expressed an interest in a Tottenham Hotspur star with a 'lack of leadership'.
