Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal cold ignite their North London rivalry off the pitch this summer with the two clubs said to be in a transfer race for Barcelona winger Ferran Torres.

It’s set to be a summer of restructuring at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after an underwhelming season under Ange Postecoglou with another injury farce a must-avoid for the 2025/26 campaign. That needs strength in depth and the former Manchester City man has emerged as an option.

Last month, TBR Football claimed that Spurs ‘could be ready’ to sell club stalwart Son Heung-min to fund new arrivals. Crystal Palace man Eberechi Eze had been touted and now Torres is another rumoured target.

Football Fan Cast cites reports in Spain claiming that Tottenham Hotspur are ‘battling’ to sign Torres from Barcelona. The out-of-favour 25-year-old has been afforded just 651 minutes in La Liga this term and could be moved on for a touted £33 million fee.

Arsenal are said to be challenging Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer. Mikel Arteta has had his own injury woes this season with Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri missing large parts of the campaign on the flanks, along with problems for Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz. Napoli and AC Milan are also said to be looking at a swoop for Torres.

Lamine Yamal and Raphinha are providing plenty of competition for Torres in Catalunya and a move back to the Premier League could be a viable option for the player, who has history in the top flight. Torres won the Premier League with Manchester City in 2021 and has nine goals and three assists in the competition.

Pep Guardiola prise for ‘incredible’ winger

Torres can play across the front three, just like Son, but is a younger option at 25 years old compared to the South Korean’s 32 years of age. The winger would come with the backing of Pep Guardiola too.

Speaking about the forward after he bagged a hat-trick against Newcastle United during a 4-3 win in May 2021. Guardiola said: “I am delighted for the three goals but he has incredible numbers for first season in England. He didn’t play during a period of two months much. He came as a winger with incredible runs in behind, but he can play as a striker.

“Every time he plays in that position, he has a real sense of goal. The last one is a big example of that, the intuition to know where the ball comes and be there to score. He was fantastic all season. An incredible signing for us, a young player who can play in all three positions for us up front.”

In other news, Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a £49.5 million move for an attacker Jamie Redknapp has labelled an ‘absolute star’.
