Tottenham and West Ham have both been linked to Nuremberg striker Stefanos Tzimas, who is on loan at the Bundesliga 2 club from Greek side PAOK where he began his footballing career in the youth academy.
He joined Nuremberg on loan in the summer and has since made nine league appearances, scoring five goals and providing one assist. The Greek youngster has been tipped to become a star in the future which is why there is said to be significant Premier League interest in him.
However, according to SportBILD via Sport Witness, amid interest from Spurs and West Ham, Nuremberg are looking to sign Tzimas on a permanent deal from PAOK as there is a £15m buy clause in his loan deal, with a view to then flipping the player soon afterwards to make a tidy profit.
The hope for Nuremberg is that they can sell Tzimas for over £17m to ensure a healthy profit - a fee should be more than affordable for most Premier League clubs.
Spurs and West Ham face Premier League competition to sign Tzimas
The Greece U21s striker isn’t just courted by West Ham and Spurs as the report from SportBILD also suggests that Newcastle United are keen on the 18-year-old, which could prompt a bidding war between the three sides.
However, it could also be an option that Nuremberg isn’t able to afford the £15m buy-out clause, and so the likes of West Ham and Spurs would have to pursue Tzimas from his parent club in PAOK who are competing in the Europa League this season alongside Ange Postecogou’s Tottenham.
They recently played against Manchester United and lost 2-0 to a Ruud Van Nistelrooy-led side. The United interim boss left Old Trafford after Ruben Amorim has taken over but he is now one of the favourites to take over should West Ham decide to sack Julen Lopetegui.
It is not clear yet as to whether the Premier League teams would be prepared to pay £17m or more for the Tzimas, as his current market value is only estimated to be around £1.5m. However due to his potential, if they remain interested then Nuremberg will be prepared to pay the hefty £15m buy-out clause.
