Tottenham are already said to have held talks with a reported defensive target ahead of the summer. Spurs need to improve significantly in the summer after a season to forget that has left Ange Postecoglou hanging by a thread.
Tottenham are set for a bottom half finish, and only winning the Europa League will get them into Europe next season, an avenue they don’t look like being capable of seizing as things stand.
But whether Postecoglou remains in place or not this summer. Spurs will look to strengthen their squad, which is sorely lacking in quality depth. The North London club has already been linked with names aplenty, and the latest is Wolves wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, who may finally move on from the Molineux this summer.
The 23-year-old has been Wolves’ star performer for the last couple of seasons, and as he approaches the final year of his contract - though Wolves can extend it by one year - it’s thought he may push to move on. According to Africa Foot, Ait-Nouri has plenty of admirers, but it’s Tottenham who are said to be leading the race having already held conversations with the player, or at least his representatives.
West Ham are also said to be interested in the 23-year-old wing-back, but it’s likely Tottenham would hold an advantage given Ait-Nouri will want to go somewhere he has a chance of competing for trophies. Spurs haven’t shown that capability this season, but that’s certainly what they will be striving for.
It’s reported Wolves would demand upwards of £30million to sell their star left-back, who was dubbed a player of ‘real quality’ by Jamie Carragher. The Sky Sports pundit said: “A man who I think is a real quality player whenever I watch Wolves play is this man (camera follows Ait-Nouri). I mentioned the problems Cunha could cause Trent Alexander-Arnold, but this guy helping as well in that wing-back role getting forward. He’ll also have a lot on his plate with Mo Salah as well. But he’ll look to burst forward. He could cause Liverpool real problems as he has real quality.”
