Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke is already on the sidelines but Ange Postecoglou will have high hopes for him this season.
Tottenham Hotspur fans will have been so excited to see Dominic Solanke in action after finalising his move from Bournemouth.
Spurs had needed a centre forward ever since Harry Kane’s exit and Solanke looked to be an exciting addition.
The former Chelsea and Liverpool talent hit 19 Premier League goals with Bournemouth last season and certainly earned his move to Tottenham.
Solanke started Tottenham’s Premier League opener at Leicester City and impressed Gary Neville despite not finding the net.
Unfortunately, Solanke is already injured and whilst Tottenham hope to see him return this weekend, it may be a little longer.
Theo Walcott on Dominic Solanke
Solanke may even return for the North London derby against Arsenal, which would be quite the game in which to score his first Spurs goal.
Tottenham fans will be keen to see Solanke get off the mark as quickly as possible.
The last thing Solanke needs is a goal drought upon arriving at Tottenham, which would only see the pressure rise.
Many are backing Solanke to thrive though and pundit Theo Walcott has gone one step further.
In a video posted by Sky Sports, Walcott was asked for a ‘wildest take’ on the new show ‘How Long Ref?’ – and he suggested that Solanke could finish as the Premier League’s top goalscorer.
“Solanke, now at Tottenham, might well be the top goalscorer,” said Walcott, prompting confusion from fellow pundit Izzy Christiansen, who simply said ‘In the league?!’
Tottenham fans may cynically believe that former Arsenal star Walcott is strategically trying to put some pressure on Solanke.
We think that Walcott just rates Solanke that highly having taken his game to another level at Bournemouth last season.
Tottenham paid up for Solanke for a reason; he has proven himself at Premier League level and Spurs are backing him to score penalty of goals this season.
Solanke already behind Erling Haaland
Expecting Solanke to finish on top of the Premier League scoring charts is a big ask though, certainly fitting in the category of a ‘wild take’.
Solanke had his best Premier League season with 19 goals but still finished eight goals shy of Manchester City scoring machine Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian is already setting the pace this term having racked up four goals in just two Premier League games.
Solanke already finds himself four goals behind Haaland having barely even settled into life at Tottenham yet.
We are backing Solanke to score plenty of goals for Tottenham this season but Haaland will not only have the edge over him but probably all strikers in the Premier League.
