Tottenham Hotspur have been contemplating a summer swoop for FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa
Tottenham Hotspur fans were craving a new centre-forward after Dominic Solanke sustained an injury in training. Ange Postecoglou barely had any deputy up front with Richarlison having his own injury concerns, forcing the Australian head coach to play makeshift players.
Fortunately, the Hotspur Way chiefs managed to get a loan deal for Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich over the line on the January transfer deadline day. If Tel agrees to join Spurs permanently, it has to be noted that the Frenchman prefers to play off the left more rather than lead the attack. This makes the signing of a new striker crucial before the 2025/26 commences.
According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are considering a move for FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa. However, they could face competition from Bayern Munich and Newcastle United for the youngster’s signature.
After a move to Chelsea broke down last summer, Samu Aghehowa left Atletico Madrid to join FC Porto. The Spanish youth international has been a revelation in the Portuguese league with FC Porto, banging in 19 goals in 31 games thus far. He has become a hot commodity now, wanted by some of Europe’s big clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
The North Londoners have suffered massively due to injury problems, with a glaring lack of depth in certain areas of the pitch being exposed. The club are planning to offload Richarlison, Son Heung-min and Timo Werner at the end of the season, and although losing three experienced campaigners in one window would be a risky move, it certainly speaks volumes about the direction Tottenham want to head under Ange Postecoglou—which is investing in highly regarded prospects with potential.
Aghehowa, thus, would fit that bill perfectly at White Hart Lane. With a need for a striker to provide backup for Solanke, the Spanish talent fits the club’s requirement as a long-term investment. His pace, power, and physicality and potential make him an ideal candidate to eventually take on a more prominent role at Spurs.

And expectedly, Tottenham won’t be alone in pursuit of his signature. In addition to Bayern and Newcastle, Arsenal are also looking to get their hands on Aghehowa’s services when the summer transfer window comes around.
For the Lilywhites, the pursuit of the Porto starlet will be difficult, but if Levy can bring him through the doors at White Hart Lane, he could be a strong option to cover and compete with Solanke next season.
